I voted nope, but if he comes in and wins us a Premier League or Champions League or, getting giddy here, both, then I will have to recant.

The club regards him as a legend and I feel like most of the fanbase would rate him as a legend of the club as well (even if it's behind other legends).

For me, he did more than enough to be a Manchester United legend. I've nothing against him moving to another challenge after winning everything he had to win here.

Will never be a United legend for me. You don't get to force your way out at 24, the best player in the world at the best club, winning everything and turn your back on it to feck off to Madrid.

It takes more than just being the best to become a legend. I will never take away from his accomplishments while at United, absolutely immense. But it doesn't give him legend status.

Not gonna lie though, I went full on muppet during the 4 hours or so it took for United to sign him last week. What a fun ride, guilty pleasure. Also can't wait for his debut at Old Trafford, will be insane.

He is a Madrid legend. He is a football legend in general. But I wouldn't specifically consider him a Man Utd legend. On what basis?

What do you think Sir Alex would say if asked is Ronaldo a United legend ?

Being the best player on one of our three European Cup winning sides in history. Probably that basis.

Pretty obviously, he is. He was by far the best player on a side that dominated English football in what was undoubtedly a golden era. Without question the best player to play in the Premier League, multiple times won stuff and won individual awards. He’s got to be a top 10 all-time United great. Hopefully he’s able to add to an already incredible United legacy the next two seasons.

Interesting debate. Law left United for fukking Citeh and scored the goal that relegated us, Best left United, Keane left United, Schimkes went to fukking Citeh, Rio left for QPR, Beckham left for Real and later the LA Milky Way and yet they’re all unquestioned United legends.

Cantona played 5 (might be 6, not sure) seasons for us, yet he’s an unquestioned United legend.

Perhaps what’s troubling some here of us the idea that a single player could be a legend at two different clubs. Get over it.

Let’s put it this say: even for those who doubt whether Ronaldo is a United legend, does his return not erase that doubt?

A more difficult question would asking whether bears shit in the woods.
Wrong :boring:

2008 season, before he left, and he new he was going, showed the professional he is, but for a sloppy showing against Portsmouth there was another treble on. He went got better, and better. We got £80 million everyone was happy, to an extent, when he returns dont expect fireworks from him, your going to get glimpses of his prior stint at OT, but if Ole shapes the team to get balls into the box to feed him or in and around the attacking area, where in business. Legend for me .

If he scores the winning goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, I might consider him one.

The man won literally every prize there is to win here. Was the best player of United by a long shot for 5 years. Won the fecking ballon do'r here and people don't consider him a legend? He went to Real Madrid after winning everything here? Cry me a fecking river.

As long as he hasn't played for any other PL club that's fine with me. He never spoke bad about the club, always showed respect and acknowledged that United made him the player he is today.

United legend through and through.

Maybe not a legend but by far the best to ever wear the Shirt.

However a league title win would cement legendary status.

He honestly might already be one.
He already has legend status here, but he's not "by far" the best to wear the shirt. If he had stayed and replicated what he did at Madrid then okay, but, based on what he did here, yes, he has a claim to be the best, but it's not "by far".

Personally, I'd give that to Sir Bobby. A mesmerising footballer who, like Ronaldo, won it all here (league, European Cup, balon d'or).

Ya but considering Ronaldo and Messi are mentioned along with Pele and Maradona i think it’s safe to say he is the most talented player to ever player for Manchester United.

All due respect to Sir Bobby but he obviously is not mentioned in the same breath as the other 4.

Thats all Im saying.

He's not a United legend but he's a legend of the game. I suspect younger fans will consider him a United legend.

The Ronaldo that went on to be considered amongst the footballing greats didn't play for United.

He did. In 06/07 07/08 08/09

Particularly the last 2 years we’re the “beginning” of all time great Ronaldo

I think we can put this non-debate to bed after the supernova of excitement his return has generated over the past 72 hours.

I'd be interested to know if Juventus fans consider him the most talented player to ever play for them.

Nah, he didn't have three great seasons and that Ronaldo still wasn't at that level. He was a different beast at Real. Had he stayed the story would've been different. And that's the issue. Clearly, he's had a brilliant career without any regrets.

Oh, of course. Ronaldo is on another level overall. I was talking about their individual United careers, though. I don't think anyone's trumps Charlton's.

Is that because he left for Madrid? Personally, I don't think that prevents his legend status here. I mean, only a legend would get the reactions he does at Old Trafford as an opposition player, have his song sung for years after leaving, lift Manchester as a whole upon returning, etc.

Even just looking at it from what he achieved here, he's our only player outside of the trinity to win the balon d'or.

He's a footballing great who had an amazing time at OT, he's also the most popular player in the world, he was always going to get an amazing reaction.

The revisionism is stunning.

Just in case people forgot, let me remind them of our "Legend"

Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to join Real Madrid appeared stronger than ever last night after a television interview in which he reiterated he had not changed his mind about wanting to leave Manchester United and agreed with the Fifa president Sepp Blatter's criticism about the way the European Cup winners had handled the situation. Blatter had urged United to allow the player to leave and, more controversially, complained that there was "too much modern slavery" in the sport.

Blatter, an honorary member of Real Madrid with close ties to the club's president, Ramón Calderón, had described himself as "very much in sympathy" with Ronaldo and urged United to allow him to leave, suggesting it was otherwise tantamount to slavery. "I agree with what he said," said Ronaldo, when that last point was put to him. "It's true. I agree with what the president of Fifa said. I know what I want and what I would like. We have to see what happens. I do not know where I will begin next season."

Slavery is a strong term but if he wanted to fk off and was forced to stay after he won everything, I feel like that is his right and I'm not sure why people have anything against that.

Slavery is more than strong. There's a way you behave.

This guy would have joined City had they actually stepped up and paid Juve the money instead of refusing to pay Juve's asking price

I still don't think he's a legend but this comeback has lifted him in my eyes to that status. Of course he was deciding between us and City and it took Fergie and our past and present players to help him come to his senses but he still came back. If we win the title somehow I think I'll regard him as an United legend.

Watching lot of old players coming to Old Trafford recently, and someone like Nani watching both games and posting some brilliant reunited pictures with some players, I think the biggest thing I didn't like with Ronaldo that in 10 or so years he was playing for other clubs he never came back to watch single game, visit the training, or anything like that, like majority of our old players do. I remember few years ago when he was playing for Real Madrid and was injured while we played important European game like last night, Old Trafford saw many legends and yet he was somewhere else watching tennis game or something like that, but yet our fans continued chanting Viva Ronaldo, even though it was obvious he couldn't give two fecks about United ever since he left us in 2009. I always found it amazing that people liked him that much.

I guess Ronaldo needed to receive 300-400k weekly from United to come back.

Can we reopen/reset the poll?

In my book, he's a football legend, not really a Man United legend. He's burned too many bridges and like you said, he never once came back to watch us. In that aspect he's different to players like Stam, Keane, Ruud, Yorke, Berbatov. Even when they fell out with Ferguson, they still have good words to say about United and still visit Old Trafford. Fans need that, the connection, the romanticism.
Ronaldo only mentioned/ used United to strengthen his own brand. When he retires and he visits Old Trafford more often, I think the opinions on him will soften and maybe he will be a United great, but not a legend.

Guy gave us a lot of pleasure.
Guy got lost in some end of career denial.
He’s probably kicking himself now, stuck in Saudi. Ugh.

Why would any active footballer who plays for United's European rivals like Madrid or Juve come to OT to watch a United game ?

He has become more brand than footballer in recent years. Whenever someone is more brand than footballer, you have to let them go. Ditto with SAF and Becks.
