Possibly, but it's an easy cop out for a leg spinner to blame their captain. Personally, I think Rashid just bowls too many bad balls in red ball cricket which makes it easy for batsmen that can pick him to just sit in against his good ones.

And let's be fair, Rashid's first class record is middling and Root has played with him for nigh on a decade. If Root doesn't make more use of him, I'd suggest it's likely because he doesn't rate him in this format.

Agree on the bad balls, but why doesn't he bowl them in white-ball cricket if that's the case?

If he bowls a ten-over spell in white-ball cricket he'll bowl two or three poor deliveries. In red-ball he'll bowl 10 in the same period.

It just doesn't add up to me. It must be a mental thing so it's seems a shame no one's been able to resolve it. Anyway, back to IPL chat.

Pollard saved MI, the bowlers were good and SRH batsmen decided to bat as if they were chasing 200.
But the batting has been terrible once again. Rohit must realize in the first 2 overs that it's not a 200 wicket, being the captain/senior most batsman he should be looking to stay there as long as possible to put a competitive total on the board, instead he plays that shot and get's out.
It's baffling that he didn't think that 30-35 runs from the powerplay with him being there would've been better than trying to score 50 in 6 overs with the risk of him getting out.

Aye, KKR seems to be cruising. RR a bit unlucky with the bails not falling off etc. though but looking through KLR’s batting power, you’d have thought that they ended up 30-40 runs short here.

Rcb are just a complete and utter mess . The people building the squad and Kohli should all lose their job but they just keep changing coaches every few years. Virat has been lucky to have remained captain despite not winning the tournament for so long but the current situation is their worst . If Virat stepped down today there is no one really you could pick to captain and maybe build around for the future . I don't see them letting Virat go because he is still a top batsman but it will be hard for anyone else to captain with him around
 
Scoring rates seem to have dipped in the last few games... any particular reason? Or is it just the sheer number of games is wearing out the pitches and turning them into dustbowls?

Same here and KKR is my local team so I want them to smash CSK. But the Chennai pitch is so slow and unpredictable and the team batting second has a big advantage because of the dew which effectively means the toss is everything . There has been criticisms of the Chennai pitch before but it works out for CSK always so only pain for the away teams .

You still have to play smart which travelling teams in chepauk have not. You look at today, what were narine, lynn, uthappa, rana and chawla trying to play. All lose shots. They could have just played and then accelerated and reached somewhere around 150 which is a good score here. Rcb made the same mistake and today kkr repeated it.
 
Valiant effort from Russell in the end. Hopefully we put CSK to the sword now. But that's probably wishful thinking on my part.

They're just exploiting home-team advantage, something all teams do. They have a good spin attack so they prepare a dusty pitch, try and keep the score down and give their ageing batting side a small chase.

Someone will collar them away from home though, I've no doubt about that.

Edit: never mind. Seems the owners were caught match betting.
 
Take Russell out and they would have less than half the points they have now. Their top order is shaky due to Uthappa being out of form and Lynn being shaky despite scoring some runs.
