Internationals September (World Cup Qualifiers)

It is. Andorra should be a minimum 5-0 win, even with a B side. They're a bit better than Gibraltar and Farao, but well below Estonia and such.

Anyone with a brain knows you rarely get 10-0 scorelines anymore. Especially with disjointed teams with players looking for fitness and to avoid injury.

It's really a non story.

What score would be acceptable for you to reduce the embarrassment levels?

Such a pathetic argument
England have been walking about, mostly passing back and sideways. They had three shots on target for their first three goals, hardly a brilliant performance. This opposition should have been hammered, even with a 'B' team out there.

They've put in some bad fouls even when losing, Lingard has seen quite a few of these late tackles. Credit to the ref he's booked them and they miss the next match but seems senseless from Andorra players.

How so? The manager put the teenager in a bad spot, taking the final pk in England’s first final since 1966. One could not imagine a more untenable position the boy was put in by the manager, who had substantially better options available to him.

The abuse he took was beyond sickening, but the point at hand is that Southgate should never have put that particular player in that particular position.

Because you think pen misses are predictable. They're literally not.

Does that not tell you what you need to know? It's a case of getting through the game without injuries and adding fitness.

Who were they? That England squad had predominantly inexperienced penalty takers. I don't think he should have gone 5th but Kane was the only regular penalty taker in the squad. Rashford used to be a regular penalty taker but apart from that, there weren't many credible options.

I hate international breaks so much. Why the feck are England having to play a pub team to qualify for the WC? Do some pre-qualifiers and have the group stage as a max of 4 teams per group or something.

Utter tosh.

Not really. They rarely get beaten by more than 4 these days. France beat them 4-0 & 3-0 in the qualifying for the last Euros. In their 4-0 win they started with a strong team with Pogba, Greizmann and Mbappe. Switzerland beat them 2-1 and 3-0. Portugal beat them 6-0 and 2-0 in 2017. Portugal had to bring Ronaldo off the bench to beat them in their 2-0 win. Belgium beat them 4-1 and 6-0 in 2015.

That said, England weren't great in the first half. Bamford was very poor and the TAA in midfield experiment was a big failure. Trent was poor again overall. Lingard was our best player. To be fair to him a lot of his best games are for England.

Exactly this. Embarrassing that some posters don't know this.

I stand corrected on Andorra! Didn't know they've improved. Still thought they were footballing midgets ala Gibraltar.

FFS
I'm so embarrassed I didn't know Andorra have improved. My reputation!

Andorra u21s actually drew 3-3 with our u21s last season which was one of the worst results in our u21 history! Andorra u21 beat Turkey u21 2-0 in the same group which is the greatest result in Andorran football history. They have a few decent young players coming through and a 20 year old keeper that plays for Villareal B.

To be fair the Republic of Ireland would probably struggle against Andorra.

It feels strange that the Euro Final was only 5 weeks ago - it feels more like it was an eternity ago!

Thought the crowd vibe was interesting.

In previous eras they'd be mass booing and huge abuse being directed at players for "only" being 1 up v Andorra. Instead everything seemed pretty calm although was plenty of families in crowd looking at who was on the screen.

Of course still feelgood from euros but there's a real calmness about England NT on and off the pitch currently (well apart from the euros final:lol:) that hasn't been apparent for a long time.

Andorra are nowhere near as bad as San Marino, likes of France and Portugal only beat them 3 or 4 nil.

Unless its a world cup tournament or euros, i fecking cant be arsed with int'l football. Bores the tits off me

And some of you are trying to make it out that they're decent now? Jesus christ
The levels some of you would go to for the England NT

They are shite but they rarely get hammered in competitive games. I see that you decided to omit France's 4-0 and 3-0 games against them in the last Euros qualifying.

Does anyone else think it’s poor forward planning for Southgate to include Lingard? He’s soon to be 30 and is about 7th or 8th choice at his club after refusing to move for game time this summer.

What exactly does Southgate think he’s going to be getting out of Lingard in 12-18 months?

Who would you have there instead? He's done his job well.

The best time to introduce a new player is under high pressure situations, according to Southgate's philisophy.
He's saving Greenwood's starter debut for the final in Qatar it seems.

You're on a United forum and you're asking who should play RW for England?

Greenwood, obviously.

I like Jesse and understand what he can bring to England but it’s short sighted persisting with him.

It was decided by Ole and Southgate that Greenwood would not be available for selection this time so he wasn't an option.
