I agree.

I hope the discussions about his NT performances don't overshadow everything else, it's already getting big and the same has been discussed to death over the last 3 odd years.

Fair point. Maybe we can all focus on trying to big-up some of the more undervalued tournament performances?

I was chuffed to get Laudrup who I intend to big-up as he was one of the those tournament game raisers for me

Put it this way - if it was a regular good player without the reputation of Lionel Messi with the exact same performances, he probably wouldn't be picked in this draft.

Not denying that but the reputation does play a huge part while already players who have better Copa performances are overlooked as they don't have the same vote pull.

Can't do nothing about that. He was picked for a specific position in a specific formation I wanted to play. Just like Pele went 4th or Zidane went later than many who had lesser tourno peaks than them....it's a question of need. I can't see many right IF's having better tourno peaks than Messi, and that's the reason.

i agree that Messi was picked to early but lets not pretend he is the only one that was picked based on reputation, we picked around 100 players so far and all of them are GOATs and draft regulars, there isnt one average joe with a brilliant tourno and there are lots of them.
Before the draft i was thinking of going for a full average joe team but in the end decided against it as i realized i would get all players that i wanted on day 1 so the drafting process would be snooze fest from my perspective.

I don't think this draft will unveil a lot of average joes who had some great tournament as the level the successful greats reached in the international scene exceeds that more often than not.

The order and how players are rated is the difference here with Koeman picked ahead of Passarella, Rossi in the second round, Fontaine as a first round pick and so forth.

It will be interesting to hear in depth stories about their national peaks.

I agree with the rest it's better to discuss it during the games, but there was one right winger (playing a lot like Messi's favorite inside right role) still not picked and IMO he had a better tournament there than I've yet to see from Messi.

Wasn't there some discussion on how to speed up the picking process for the snake draft in the last draft? Were there any ideas that could be implemented now? Tbf though the pace has been pretty good apart from a couple of managers and their AMs, although given the all time pool I can understand their dilemma but it has been a wee bit too frequent though, admittedly.

Yeah there has been some stuff discussed and I thought about it too. But don't want to change the rules in the middle so now all we can do is get people to PM their picks to someone. :(
