India's thunder down under - Tour 2014/15

If Dhoni was our captain, we'd have lost the match defending the match.

At the beginning of the day that was true, but Kohli and Vijay had set you up for a great win, to lose was very poor.

Ehh, it's still difficult, even in that position. South Africa were in a similar position against India a while ago with De Villiers and Du Plessis on a flatter pitch and still couldn't pull it off.

Well I'm not sure that's true. We only dropped 12 wickets. It looked flat as a tack the last two days.

I think Kohli and Vijay were just batting superbly. Once Vijay got out, you can see how deadly Lyon looked.

Pitch was not easy to bat on and it was difficult for new batsmen but what is irritating is, so many threw their wicket away. It could have been a draw at least had Saha and downwards had kept head.

That Virat interview with Dravid was gold.

Virat just said that he wasn't thinking of the draw. Even with Karn, he wanted the strike and wanted to win the match.

Really happy with the way India played (barrin Saha and to some extent Rohit Sharma)... With some luck and common sense could've won but the fact that they played to win was amazing.

If only Vijay could've got that single, I feel that India would have won. This pitch was very difficult for a new person to set. Vijay really needs to learn to relax when near a century. As dravid had pointed out, its not about your next one run, it's about the next 130 runs for the team. He played brilliantly just needs some mental toughness.

Pakistan would've probably got all out for 60 odd in the final innings.

Yup but req RR was always within reach. Ideally Saha should have stuck around, rotating strike when Kohli was around and then assess if Kohli gets out. Even after Kohli got out, others could have tried to play out if runs required were too much. It is fantastic to go for win but it could have been approached differently by support cast than going after every ball.

Very very honest interview. Not sure if that's the ides ingredient for a captain though.

He's the complete opposite of Dhoni.

We can talk about ifs and buts all day. It was a fantastic performance from the team. I'm just worried India has no genuine worldie spinner at this moment in time who would have troubled the Aussies a lot more on this wicket.

Exactly. When you've got fecking Kohli at the other end and the you only need to score at less than 5 an over for 20 overs, you just have to stick around. Nothing more

Aye.

Love Kohli's attitude, its great to see. Hope he replaces Dhoni long term soon, always believed the captain's attitude rubs off on the team, it'd be great to have the others share even half his attitude.

Does anyone have a link to his interview with dravid? Not up on youtube yet.

Yeah, was there. Cheers. Nice interview.

Single minded positive approach. Great to see.

Should have played for the drawn after going 3 wickets down.

Have to watch the highlights to see the final session, but what a game! Test match cricket at its best.

It would be a shame if Clarke never played Tests again. A fantastic player, his knock in the first innings was remarkable.

Naah, going for the win was understandable. Going for it the way it was done was stupid. Others should have supported kohli and let him take the bowlers on. Once the target was shortened, we could have attacked from both ends. Saha should go for a brain scan after that, just to see if he has one.

But we're famous for our lower order collapses. Our top 6 had to finish the game or get us within 30 runs. I'd have set up for the draw once we went 5 down.

If they'd focused on supporting Kohli, none of this would have happened anyways. If everyone wanted to go gung-ho, yeah, stop after 4-5 went down but that was never an option with Kohli there.

Yeah look there were a lot of questionable umpire decisions on both sides so maybe the track was more erratic than it showed but you can't drop 8 wickets in the final session without looking at it as failure. Kohli and Vijay combined aggression and patience so well it, it just be frustrating to see six batsmen just let it go.

Correct. They had arguably the best ODI chaser of all time at the crease but they decided to go full retard.

Fantastic batting from Kohli. Good attitude towards the match, but when he got out, he should have instructed them to block. Does not make sense to go for the win at tht point.

I can just imagine the post-match quotes.

"We did the processes well and this is what we can do well. The rest is up to the execution of each individual."

I hope we never let him back into the team.

I would rather see us lose like this 100 times than a draw 60 times.

Obvious thing Kohli should have done differently for me is instructed the tailenders to block. That was well possible. There should be some common sense involved with all that fighting spirit.

I agree although given the way how horribly we've folded in the Australia in the past few years, you'll see not many Indians complaining about our attitude today.

Our tail consisted off Shami, Aaron and Ishant. Not sure they would've the new ball with Johnson for fifteen overs.

We really missed Bhuvi and Ashwin in that regard.
