India's thunder down under - Tour 2014/15

Those clips of Wasim

This looks like it will end in a draw or Aussie win. Perhaps Kohli will do something later but seems India are content ticking things over at the moment.

India look to be playing for the draw after Rohit's wicket -- the right decision, I think.

15 more runs. 190 off the last session.. very tough but got lot of wickets.

That is wonderful shot selection from Vijay. Didn't choreograph his next shot every ball. Well played.

This is a good game plan from India. Not defending. Not taking big risks either.

that's one of the worst matches by a batsman I've seen. He played 5 balls and looked nothing like a test batsman.

Played really weird. Hung back, stuck his bat out. Like he was completely confused and didn't know how to play cricket.

A mistake, IMO. Hazlewood was bowling well with the old ball.

It's amazing how quickly a match can turn. India were looking good there for a bit. I missed the Kohli wicket.

The Australian Ishant getting us out of this one.

Match drawn.

We didn't managed to get whitewash which is a surprise but thought we did fairly well. Rohit and Saha's dismissal in the first test :(

Yea.

I think Aus wouldn't have complained if it had been 1-0, which is a hell of a achievement in a 4 match series where your bowlers dont take 20 wickets. Forget 20 wickets, the only times we've gotten 10 in an innings, Australia scored >500..

Aye there's a great disparity between the bowling attack of ours and Australia's which makes this a very good achievement. Think we don't play away for a very long time now?

I can see us winning all the home series easily considering how our batting is and how our spinners perform at home. I don't see any young good pace bowler on the horizon too whereas I can name five very promising batsmen. Sad times.

Actually, I am not too sure about home, now that Ojha's been banned. Who is going to be our 2nd spinner? One of Jadeja/Karan Sharma/Mishra, I guess and that's it. Spinning stocks are pretty bare too.

In the u-19 WC, I was impressed by Chama Milind and the other opening bowler. Don't think there are any other bowlers around.

I think maybe time to give Ranji performers a go. Line and length 130ish bowlers. Likes of Yadav, Aaron are picked on either 1) pace or 2) some IPL promise. When you look at their first class averages of over 35 or whatever it is, it should not be a huge surprise they average the same in test cricket. Ranji bowling performances are not respected enough.

Not a bad series, could have easily finished 1-1. I agree with what Zing earlier said that we should stop touring abroad until we have a bowling attack of note.

Akshar Patel.
Have you seen him bowl? If not, then you should IMO. I'm guessing we'll play Ashwin, Jadeja and Akshar in the home matches with two pacers.

Who are the good bowlers in Ranji Trophy?
Pankaj Singh and Sandeep Sharma get into mind. No-one else.

Also what would be your guys starting XI for the next test match? Kohli seems to love Rohit and I think he looked decent in this match.

Rahul, Vijay, Rohit, Kohli, Rahane, Pujara, Saha/Ojha/Samson?,/ Ashwin, Jadeja, Patel, Bhuvi, Ishant would be mine.

Forgot about Patel. I haven't seen him bowl. I have not much ODI or T20 cricket in a year or so, just watching the tests.

Not seen much of Sandeep Sharma other than the odd IPL game. Pankaj Singh, yes and maybe Ishwar Pandey is worth a go.

I am glad Kohli is coming out for post-match interviews with Star Sports and so on. The cloak of invisibility Dhoni had around himself was extreme and not good. I think he's not going to stand and wait for mediocrity to pass over like Dhoni did -- if we have to try new things, I think he will.

Mine would be -
Rahul, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Rohit, Karthik, Ashwin, A Leg spinner, Bhuvi, Ishant

Patel is very similar to Jadeja in a bowling sense. Jadeja might even better in that regard.

Patel looks a much better batsmen though.

You've got 12 there.

I don't know who we play next. I know we play SA at home in October and that is going to be a good series.

Rahul deserves a go and am not sure about Pujara at 6.

You've got it the wrong way. Patel is a much better bowler than Jadeja. Classical left armer rather than Jadeja who relies on accuracy than variations.

feck sakes.

Anyway then drop Pujara. With Patel, Jadeja, Ashwin and Bhuvi, our lower order is very strong.

Nah, they're both every similar bowlers who don't spin it a lot and are wicket to wicket. Jadeja's a shit batsmen. I know he's got something like 5 triple 100's or something but he's essentially come across as a slogger more often than not in tests. Patel looks to more about him.

Our worst bowling attack in as long as i can remember, and not surprisingly our shocking drop in that regard coincides with the rise of IPL and t20 nonsense in the lower leagues.

I think that would be a mistake -- same discussion on TV and Akash Chopra says Rohit's got to go, I agree with him.

He did alright in this test, but he still plays harebrained shots that you don't want your #3(or a test batsman) playing. He just got lucky that they didn't find the fielder this time.

If you put Rohit in at 3, he does well in India, do you really want him to be coming out at 1 drop next time you are playing in England/SA? They'll eat him up. It has to be Pujara.

Not like we were churning out Steyns and McGraths before the IPL.
