Long-ish tour, so thought we could have a separate thread.

3 ODIs, 2 tests and 3 T20s(or may be 2)

India chasing 293 and are 144/4 in 32 overs. Pretty tough situation. Would be impressive if Kohli and Dhoni win this one.

Raina is starting to play himself out of the team. May be time for Ambati Rayudu.

I would like to see Rohit, Dhawan, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Dhoni as the top 6, but with the rules/tracks churning out 300 average matches, this might be India's best team.

Brilliant innings by Virat. Class shots all the way through. Need these two to stay till the end as it is 8 an over.

Also, the sky is fecking beautiful in the background. What a view.

Need 3 overs off Mccullum. That'll hurt NZ.

Turns out WASP was right all along.

I would be interested in seeing the empirical probability of a match being won, at different points in the match, plotted versus the WASP prediction.

Jadeja's a better bowler than Ashwin and Ashwin's a better batter than Jadeja.

We need to do something about our bowling. Can't expect the batsmen to score 300 every single time. We'll probably concede 350 on some of the other much smaller grounds in the coming ODI's.

Laryngitis.

Why so bitter?

How is not being fan of particular team is being bitter? It is also not as if I am trying to 'play down' their achievements. That would be bitter. I don't do that though. They hardly give chance to be 'bitter' about them away from home, don't they?

I enjoyed world cup win truly but I believe Indian cricket team is overhyped, almost similar to England football team, so I don't mind making fun of them as well as I am not a hard-core fan of Indian cricket team anyway.

Dunno why Kohli opened the batting. You've got a great no 3/4 in the making and I hope to feck they don't spoil him by shifting him up top.

Don't think it is for long term. The think which perplexes me and I guess most is, why Pujara doesn't get chance in ODI when every Tom, Dick and Harry gets his chance.

Pujara has dodgy knees which might explain the reluctance of selectors to put him in the side and if that's the case I'd agree with them. This series should ensure that Raina never gets picked again.

Picking Raina in India is no problem at all though. In fact, it is a big plus.
Raina is kind of symbolic of India's team away though. Individual details may vary from player to player but that has been the story in nutshell. India away from home have never been a good side and that's why I laugh at their failures because I don't buy into the hype. In last decade they have at least shown fight and got some memorable wins, but never stamped their authority which the 'great' teams from various countries during their respective eras have done.

What hype? The only hype with the Indian team has been with the batting and I'd like to think most of our great batsmen in the last decade have justified their hype both home and away.

I have heard many having high expectations from new crop of bowlers as well. Not necessarily here, through my interaction with friends or from what I have read fans posting on various sites. Problem is, we had high hopes from Ishant and Irfan after their dazzling debuts as well but they fizzled out later.
Batting, well, we have had great batsmen but it has never been enough to dominate as a team and although bowling can be blamed lot more for those failures, their have been many instances of batting collapses at crucial moments in series/game which cost team in the end.

India were the number 1 ranked one day team till last week and the winners of the champions trophy and were the best team there.

No one's hyped up our bowling. You must be talking to completely clueless people if anyone thinks India's bowling is worthy of hype.

And I have no idea why you're having a whinge at the batting. This is a top quality top 6.

Our bowling has been quite rubbish for as long as I remember and has very rarely been hyped up. Irfan was hyped up a lot I agree, but that was mainly because he looked fecking brilliant at the time. All batting lineups have collapses, it's not limited to us and our lineup has more excuses given the pathetic state of our bowling. Even in this series we have got close to or exceeded 6 rpo in all 4 games which indicates that despite a few individual failures, the batting is not the issue.

It's like The Man Himself lives in a parallel world.

The strangest set of arguments..

Funny that after failures after failures, some people are just blind to reality.

As I said above, bowling is more to be blamed but it is not like batting has been tremendous. This series, couple of games could have been different if our batsmen were better against short pitch bowling. It is not like Steyn and Morkel were bowling that short stuff. Batting can't be cleared of blame totally. Yes bowling is very ordinary but batting has let down too and on many instances. Show me teams, the good ones, who have had as much batting collapses like India have had away from home.

Blind to what exactly?

That India is not a great cricketing team. Yeah, we won world cup, still do you think the team for any part of last decade or even the one around world cup can be considered among one of the bests? Straight after world cup, we go and lose 4-0 to England and then against Australia. Unless Indian players prove themselves in all conditions and by proving I mean winning consistently, I will keep finding all this drooling over them amusing. I wish this new gen do though at some point coz I like these lads.

I don't know what you're talking about. In the series against SA we had one batting failure in 4 innings (on the fifth day at that) and that was in a batting lineup where experience on foreign soil was very limited. The batting was not to blame for losing that series and anyone saying otherwise comes across as clueless. Even the great Australian side had more than a couple of collapses when they played in India. If your point is that no team has ever had a batting collapse like India away from home then you are dead wrong.

Except no one is actually saying we are great, so you are basically debating with yourself. Our bowling has been hung out to dry by every man and his dog and that includes the captain of the team. We have an excellent batting lineup and an appalling bowling lineup which is pretty much the general consensus.

Ummm, there are few things misunderstood again but I won't repeat, some other time maybe. There is only so much one can feel like talking about this sport on football forum.

TMH in any cricket thread is just a train wreck. I'm sure he has valid points, but he just expresses them in a way that gets everybody (including me!) mad.

He hasn't got a valid point. India have a good batting and shit bowling and no one hypes us up. When the conditions favour a bit of spin -- and even if it moves in that case, we are in the top 2 in the world: see Champions Trophy. Without spin being favoured, we're not any good and will lose if the batting fails.

The reason no one is posting here is because 1) half the match is over before we wake up 2) NZ is not a big team and no one cares.

It is the same reason no one posts here when we're thumping the likes of NZ/WI at home.

To call us deluded is just laughable -- there's only one person in this thread who is imagining things.

 It is fun how much Zing cries and makes up excuses when India loses. So, you lose to a team which is not big team 3 times out of 4 and just avoid losing in 4th and it is nothing to care? Yeah, it is nothing to care for a team maybe which is just as average.

That's not what he said.. You aren't helping yourself mate.

Helping in what?

Anyway, yesterday during United's match I was thinking, if we say Ashley Young is Rohit Sharma of football, for whom among the two will it be bigger insult?

I'm scared that you'll stab me with a knife if I say India are an alright team or something.
