He only has 1 year left on his contract if I'm not mistaken. That coupled with his injury troubles in the past should keep the price fairly low.

That won't make a difference to Dortmund, they'll keep him for the one season and I'm sure City are going to want their man. They need quality in CM.
It will when he signed an extension with them so that they can get money for him this year.

Yeah and they'll want £30M, especially with him being back to form.
They won't want to risk pricing him out of a move as they had an agreement that if he signed an extension he could leave this summer. They want money fir him and £24m is better then £0m. Man City know this and are willing to risk low balling them.

We'll see eventually what he leaves for.

Its very rarely for more then the initial reported price.

Besides, why would they risk losing £24m just for an extra £6m?

The initial reported fee was £36M and City would have been happy to pay £28M.

Except now they are paying £24m it seems. So it seems like Man City have realised Dortmund will take this fee and are pushing the boat out. If Dortmund reject it and Man City go on to look at other players, they may not get another chance to sell him for that and Gundogan will just leave on a free next summer and be unhappy coming into next season.

They want the money, simple as that. Why risk not getting it over a few million.

Like I said wait and see, can't be assed debating over the fee over a city signing.

The only way I see this going over £30m is if another team like United go in for him and start a bidding war. Even then, Gundogan will choose the team in the CL and likely try and force Dortmunds hand to except the lower offer from Man City.

Dortmund aren't hardball with selling their players like Bilbao are. They accept decent prices for their players under certain circumstances.

It's a sellers market, there are many clubs with £30m available who could use a player of Gündogan quality.

Liverpool ended up getting what they wanted for Sterling last summer.

Liverpool played hardball. Dortmund don't.

We really need to be making the right signings this summer. City are going to bring in a couple of really top tier players, I wouldn't be surprised if Liverpool do too. We can't be wasting our budget on the players at the level of Schneiderlin and Fellaini again. We have to be making signings comparable to the other top sides. If we have to over pay then so be it, but bringing in world class players this summer is absolutely vital.

This the same gundogan who city fans called overweight, injury prone and overrated when he seemed utd bound? I see..and now he's world class yeh? Ok

£30m for Gundogan isn't a rip off.

It is for 1 year left on his contract and the fact he isn't a world class centre midfielder. Rather put 7mill ontop of that and take a chance on Wiegl or use the same money and get Saul, both are more suited to the game fans want to see. Let City have him, perfect for Guardiola.

Except he is.

Who are we going to get at that level for a better price?

Are you telling me Wiegl is better than Gundogan?

What midfield playmakers do you think can we buy, that are as good or better than Gundogan, for a better price?

He hasn't been sold so that's a silly question. If he sells for more than Toni Kroos who got the better price, probably a better question?

Having Gundogan or making a rival get him is not going to make a difference to Manchester United. Having Pogba or making a rival get him will make a difference. This is the point i'm trying to get at. He's not a world class playmaker by any means... he is a very good one though.

That's an odd comment. Weigl is much more a Guardiola midfielder than Gündogan. The latter is more direct and creative, loves running with the ball instead of passing forward in narrow triangles. Weigl on the other hand is kinda Busquets-like (in terms of style, not in terms of quality).

I'm really curious how Guardiola will use Gündogan + De Bruyne, that's an insanely direct midfield pair and nothing like the midfields we've see in his teams at Barca and Bayern.

Yes they do, they kept Lewandowski until the end of his contract in similar conditions.
No they didn't. Bayern refused to pay for him and both himself and Bayern waited out till his contract was up before leaving on a free. There was nothing Dortmund could do in the matter.
What gives you that idea?
Their past transfers.

£32m for Gotze to their direct rivals. That was the buyout but still was a cheap clause to put in.

Kagawa for £12m to United was dirt cheap at the time.

They tried to sell Lewandowski to every top club in Europe at under £30m so he wouldn't go to Bayern on a free.
