If Real offered us Bale in a straight swap for De Gea would you take it ?

I wouldnt even buy bale if real offered him for 30 million unless he takes a huge pay cut to justify the poor injury record. We cant afford to have a large amount of wages tied up by a player who is only fit for half the season and when fit isnt quite the player he was pre real. The only way to do a deal would be to pay him by appearances like the deal we had with owen.

I dont think getting rid of bale is as high a priority as getting rid of james rodriguez is for real madrid. Thus i dont think they will be willing to offer a cheap enough price that will get clubs interested in a chronically injured yet high wage player.

Kin ell! You'd think Bale is in a wheelchair.

I can't believe how unpopular Bale is in this thread.

Really he would be same as Rooney the past few years .. Is that really what you want ?over paid and over the hill one his pace goes which it is

Right now,I would take Bale and James in a flash! Both can play in wheelchairs for all I care ,just sign someone, anyone that can at least improve us to compete in the Champions League and really help us challenge for the League title.
I am so tired of struggling for 4th these last few seasons .
I have been supporting this amazing club since 1980 and so to finally get that title win in 1992, was amazing , and then our domination started ..... I really want those days back ....Feckless Moyes .....
Sorry, getting carried away, too much passion for this club.
Time to forget the emotion and trust in Jose and Ed to get the job done ,they surely know what they have to do to better than me.

I'd swap De Gea for Bale. Right now we're defensively solid, but our attack is piss poor. IMO we'd be better off with a world class attacker and an average 'keeper, than a world class 'keeper and average forwards. We need a spark up front, we need a game changer. Every elite team in Europe has a talisman who can win them the game; even Arsenal have Sanchez. We have no one.

Low ceilings are always bad for tall lads. You feel constricted.

Although what do I know, I'm 5'9" :D
I'm 6'1 and have fear of them!

Bale's ability isn't in any doubt, not to Real, not to United, not to the Caf.
However only one of those knows Bale's medical records, which is obviously Real, so if by any chance they do want rid, one would have to be pretty stupid to swallow it.

Pretty much.

He's a Perez favorite too, so if he's willing to let him go, you have to imagine something is up.

I probably would. As good as De Gea is, he's "just" a goalkeeper. There's only so much a goalkeeper can do, and our problems have not been in defence. It's been a lack of creativity, speed, energy, and goals in the final third - all of which are qualities that Bale possesses. And even though Bale's been injured quite a bit the last few seasons, I think it's worth the risk. We saw how dominant he was in his last seasons for Spurs. He was almost as good as Ronaldo was in his last seasons in the PL, and you could argue that he's even better now - when he's fit of course.

If we signed him and he manages to stay fit, we'd have a good chance of having the best player in the league for the next 3-5 seasons. And I think we've got a good replacement for De Gea in Romero, for now. Or we could sign Oblak.

I haven't seen anything that suggests that Real Madrid are even interested in De Gea.

I know there was interest 2 seasons ago and it fell apart but now? I think they're content with Navas. As they should be. Dudes on route to winning back to back Champions Leagues and a league title. What more could you want?

With Bale not being guaranteed a starting place in the final, is there not a possibility that he'd be available this summer. He can't be happy there

I agree with this. SAF priority was always having a hot player in front of goal, not one guarding it

after big pete left we struggled for years with dodgy keepers and it hurt us badly at times, its not easy to find a keeper as good as de gea .
he looks like hes off to madrid at some point tho and if bale can stay fit its a tough choice.

I thought he said that it would be unfair to take Isco's place in the final eventhough he's back because Isco has been magnificent this season when Bale was out injured. So it's hard to say whether he's happy or not. If he ends up winning the Champions League, I don't think he'll be complaining much. But then again, I think this would be his 3rd Champions League medal if Madrid win it this year. I would think he would want a new challenge and United could provide him with a route back to England where he belongs.

At the age of 28, I would pay Real 50-60M, that's about it. Bale was supposed too take reign from Ronaldo but hasn't been able to do so. I think Perez would want Mbappe to do that which is why Real would also be willing to listen to Bale transfer.

With Griezmann looking increasingly unlikely to come here, Bale wouldn't be a bad option. Yes, I do know that they play different positions but we weren't going to get Bale and Griezmann. Bale knows the premiership and that could be an advantage.

Bale has played fewer matches and fewer minutes for 2 consecutive years. In 2014/2015 season Bale appeared in 48 matches and played 4200 minutes, his peak at Real. In 2015/2016 it was 31 matches and 2381 minutes and 2016/2017 it was 26 matches and 1924 minutes. The greatest ability is availability. I see Bale's market value less than half what Real paid Spurs and falling fast..

It looks to me like Real see Bale's availability trending downwards fast and they see a desperate team that only scored 54 goals in 38 league matches. I hope Ed and Jose reflect on all the crutches on display at the Europa Cup final and offer a polite but firm NO.

Ahhh. Just heard a ring-necked pheasant crow. What a wonderful sound.

.

Yes I would, id also buy Reus just so he doesn't feel left out.

On a serious note, I'd take Varane and Morata in a straight swap if De Gea was pushing for a transfer.

Im very surprised about the general apathy towards Bale. To me it's an absolute no brainier, I'd trade them in an instant. Bale is one of the very few footballers capable of upping a gear and winning a match on his own. His power, pace and sheer deadliness in the air of from 5 to 35 yards out would transform us.

He's got the lot. Romero has shown that DDG isn't irreplaceable and we got him on a free. You'd hope with Bale that we'd become a far more offensive team meaning less reliance on having an outstanding keeper.

I love De Gea but yeah id swap.

I feel confident in Romero to give our attack some added class.

It's fecking ridiculous. If he joined us he'd instantly be the best player in the premier league.

Yeah but we can not ignore the fact that he only played 58 club games over the last two years. When healthy he can win matches all by himself but something is wrong regarding his fitness levels and I can understand why he fell so much in people's eyes. Some people say his injuries repeated constantly because he was rushed back to the team before being fully fit. If that's the issue and if United medical staff believe he is fixable then I would love to have him. But if not, he will be an incredible risk to take.

Not sure about a swap but after losing out on Griezmann, Bale would be an amazing signing. If there is any prospect of him being available United should be all over it.

For a 4-3-3, he's the ideal signing. As an added bonus, they should give him the number 11 shirt to see Martial's reaction!

Would be madness not to take him if we can in the current market.. If we got him and Sanchez, we'd have our attack pretty much revamped.

Nah, not in the mood to swap our worldclass keeper who's been loyal to us through our bad years, not said a single bad world about the club for a guy who's rejected us 2-3x and spent several hundred days of the last 2 seasons injured.

I can see why people would make the swap as it would revamp our attack significantly (When actually fit) but I just worry about his shelf life, I think as his pace and explosiveness deteriorates as he ages ,(28 next month) he doesnt have the allround game to reinvent himself as Giggs/Ronaldo etc have done, he'd just end up half the player.

Let me put the question this way: in the current state of our defense and attack, will De Gea decisively save more goals than Bale score? De Gea was MoTM very few times this year because he was an attentive spectator for most of it, while in attack we draw numerous games due to our lack of edge there.

Bale for de Gea would be a great deal for us even if de Gea didn't want to leave. De Gea's going to end up one of the best keepers of all time but Bale could end up one of the greatest wide attackers of all time. Another great tournament for Wales and he'll be up there. At international level he's been playing at an elite level for a few years. He's got 15 goals in 22 games (0.68 gpg) for Wales over the last three years, Messi has 13 in 23 (0.57), Ronaldo has 21 in 27 (0.78), Griezmann has 14 in 39 (0.36).

At club level he's been missing on a fairly frequent basis, but Robben was the same. He stepped up a level for club and country when he moved away from Madrid. 12-13 was arguably his best club season in his career, at the same age Bale will be next season. He followed that up a year later by hitting his international peak, driving a mediocre Dutch team to 3rd in the World Cup and coming 3rd in the golden ball rankings.

I wouldn't put it past Bale to play a decisive role today either - he could kill Juve on the break if they open up when they go behind. All of these Madrid players are within reach of an elite group (currently 76 players have won the CL three times) and Bale could be one of the few to have a hand in goals in every CL final he played in. To turn our nose up at someone with that pedigree would be madness. Even for de Gea.

Definitely but it's about as likely as Barca swapping for Messi. I can't see a reason why Bale would be going anywhere.

I wouldn't swap DDG for Bale but I would definitely prefer Bale here than James. This is assuming his injury issues are not something that will impact his career long term and he gets a haircut

No definitely not. De Gea is either the best or second best keeper in the world, depending on who you ask. Bale is nowhere near that eminent in his own position. And he's injury prone, which should instantly rule out any signing for us as far as I'm concerned. When you can spend as much as we can, you can find a star signing who isn't going to spend half the season on the bench.

De Gea is the best in the world, never injured, still very young for a keeper and you can go into any game almost guaranteed he'll have a good game.
Bale although a good player has no form in the last two years cause he's always injured. The current Bale can't even get past Isco.

If the option was there, I'd take it in a heart beat. Bale is the type of player we need right now.
