If Real offered us Bale in a straight swap for De Gea would you take it ?

I would. Romero with Butland slowly integrated would be almost seamless, providing there's a solid defence in front of them.

Bale, on the other hand, would make an immediate and significant improvement on any of the current attacking midfield options; potentially the difference between winning the league and not.

Bale and Martial flanking Lukaku could be devastating on the counter, something essential given Mourinho's default pragmatism.
Totally agree with this

Problem with the Caf is short-term memory, never considering the full context behind performances and form. Last season was underwhelming for Bale undoubtedly but the Euros last summer took away any chance of him getting a full period of rest to recover and come back 100% fit. Everyone remembers all these injuries but has seemingly forgot his match-winning ability in years prior, or when he sliced up the Prem with ease.

Not saying I'd give up De Gea cause a top drawer goalkeeper is always hard to come by but in terms of outfield players we don't have any at the moment that touch Bale in quality, bar Pogba.

If PL TV money continue to increase, the other clubs will still be able to afford higher wages.

Also, how's Levy going to deal with Kane and co asking for more when he pays Bale 300k or so?
Bale's on £530k a week right now. Spurs might be able to afford that in 5 years

This is a bummer

Did anyone forget to tell Crisitiano that?

His persistent injuries are a very valid concern if we're going to spend a world record fee for him or swap him for the best keeper in the world.

I doubt they'll. But you're right about one thing, in 5 years he's more likely to join Spurs than any other PL club.

Why is this thread still active?
Bale isn't even a guaranteed starter for Madrid.

And I can see Levy matching whatever mega-salary he's on in Madrid then waiting for Kane, Alli and half the squad to pitch up cap in hand.

He won't expect to receive the same salary as he's currently on. I'm talking about 2018-19.

You expect to sign a 28yo player who'd have 3 or 4 years left on his contract and pay him less than what he was on?

Good luck with that.

It depends. He may not be a starting player for RM by that stage and might well consider that he already has more money than he knows what to do with. In which case, playing regular football, being back in the Prem and playing for Spurs again might be more important considerations.

Indeed, if he turns all Rooney-like in the next couple of seasons, Real Madrid might even fund part of his wages and let him 'return home' like we did with Rooney.

Especially if you sell them your star player at the same time.

Well we all know that's gonna happen anyways . Alli's there on loan

Why is this still going? Bale is finished already. He seems to have irreversibly torn his body

Cristiano is on another planet and has no significant history of injuries so don't see why he's some point of comparison... also Ronaldo was very carefully managed by Zidane throughout the season while Bale repeatedly was rushed back into action. I'm not saying discount his injury record completely but I simply don't understand how people don't believe getting Bale for even just 40 games a season will massively improve our team.

Here's one: would you take Real selling us Bale under the agreement that one year from now we sell them De Gea?

Ronaldo plus cash or nothing. DDG is not for sale as far as I am concerned.

This is a no brainer. We desperately need a winger and there aint much wingers better than Bale out there. Bale is what? 28? He still have 3-4 years left in him if he can stay fit. Right now, what we need are players to get us back competing and winning trophies before we can think about building a team. With a good defence, any goalkeeper could do the job just like Romero showed last season(we won the UEL with him starting all bar two games) and we still have O'hara and Pereira.

We only have two world class players, DDG is one, why on Earth would we even consider Involving him in some kind of swap ?
Because in this hypothetical scenario we'd be getting a world class attacking player in return.

If you think Rashford is going to be a star in a couple years with Lukaku around as the 9, Rashford needs to play somewhere else and if we're going to play both of them it's already not clear that the rest of the attack shouldn't be more about creativity and link play than pace and power (see Madrid being as good or better with Isco taking Bale's space), though mostly I think as long as you've quality attackers who play different spots you should end up with a dangerous attack. And Rashford is probably not a right-winger and Bale probably is so it's fine.

Not sure why @GlastonSpur is getting grief over suggesting that Bale may not play for any other PL side apart from Spurs. I think it is highly probable that Bale would come back and play for Spurs if he stays with RM for another 3-4 seasons.

By that time, he would have lost a bit of an edge and the clubs like City, Chelsea and us would probably go for someone younger. If however, he moves in the next two seasons, I don't think Spurs can afford his wages to be honest.

I would, very few great left wingers on the market, and while i think De Gea is the second best keeper in the world, there are a shed load of really good keepers we could buy who would come close to replacing him.

Can't see Madrid doing this though.
