The problem for the Arizona have got is that the Oilers haven't even started to tank yet for last spot and yet we are still clear in the conference at the bottom. It does get harder each year, and we are leaving it a bit later than normal, but the tank will start soon.

The Oilers are always tanking. 24/7 365.

Talk about a team that's stuck in the old ways, the Oilers are a perfect match. No matter how many bad years they have, it's always the same old country club in charge.

They need to do what people in Montreal saw a few years ago: basically clearing up the whole staff, and then hire a group of winners, perhaps having no past affiliation with the Oilers but being raised as Edmontonians. When I think of Marc Bergevin (the player), I have memories of a player who made his name mainly with Chicago, the Islanders and Hartford. After his playing career, he learned the executive's job with an organization that reinvented itself (Chicago) and won a Stanley Cup there as an assistant GM. You would be surprised to see how he kept Montreal deep in his heart after all this time and appears to understand the city's hockey culture better than most people around. Since he became our GM, I don't have that much to complain about after the mess his predecessors left us with. Not bad for someone who never played for the Habs.

Perhaps the only slight gripe I have with Bergevin is that he never seemed interested in signing/trading picks for Jaromir Jagr no matter how many times Jagr appeared interested to have his chance in Montreal at least once since his return in the NHL. It's a shame because we all know how Jagr and Tomas Plekanec are so good together on the Czech national team, and Jagr can be a good mentor for the many young players we have while adding extra punch forward.

Will it have real player names?

Not as standard. Seems like it's Pro-Evo style names and team names are just the name of the city. But like Football Manager, there's a decent community of nerds with far too much time to spare who already have rosters, graphics and edited databases prepared.

This forum appears to be a good source for everything you need to make the game more authentic.

I'm fussy about that kind of stuff too. If I find a graphic missing on FM, I have to stop what I'm doing, save the game, and fix it. First thing I do when the new version comes out is make sure all the graphics and stuff are loaded in. I'll probably do the same with EHM.

I loved the original and this picks up where it left off. The only reason it's not got all the proper names in etc is down to cost. They wanted to get the game back out there, and so I'm sure if it proves popular and they can get a decent deal we'll see a return of proper names and logos as well as an expansion of what leagues you can play again.

Playoff race in the West is very tight at the moment; Flames, Kings and Jets fighting for two spots.. I hope the Kings make it, the defending champs should be in the playoffs.

We know we need a clear out, but Katz is so much in love with "The Boys on Bus", that he'll do anything to keep them around and add them to the club in what ever role. We've been calling for Lowe's head for ages, but it's never going to happen. I guess the only thing we are happy with is that he'll never have the courage to sanction himself to have his number raised, that would be the final insult for many.

The reappointment of McT was crazy, he'd been fired for doing a poor job of coaching, what made them think he'd make a good GM? The first thing he did was fire the coach that was getting the players playing and turning the club around and brings in Eakins. With respect to Eakins he did the best he could, but it just didn't work out with him. I do hope it was a case of the wrong team at the wrong time for him as he seems a reasonable guy. However, lets see what happens at the end of the year, Nelson has come up and turned the team around, the team has started to play, and have climbed the table, but will he get the post full time, which he deserves, not only for his work since he was appointed, but also his success at OKC.

What ever happens I can't see anything happening now, till after the new arena is built and open. From what I gather season ticket sales are down for next year already, but you can bet your life they'll get snapped up, it's when the new arena and price hikes we'll see how the Oilers fans react. If they are getting the same as we've had now for the past 9 years they won't fill the new place and Katz will have to pull the trigger then.

Playoff race going down to the wire!
Hopefully the Flames will eliminate the Kings on Thursday :D

Jamie Benn!! Jamie MUTHAfeckIN' BENN!! If there's one way where not making the playoffs doesn't hurt(yet), this certainly is it.

Pens just made it through, although I'd be surprised if they didn't get swept by the Rangers in round one.

I hope the sens are not mentally drained after playing so many must wins just to make the playoffs. I think they could go on a decent run with their current form. Make it to seven games vs Tampa in the next round perhaps?

Now the season is over, well it was over last October for us Oiler fans to be honest, time for us Brits to cheer our own on. Great win by Team GB in the World Champs Div 1B today, 2-0 down to Croatia with 7 to go the goal to tie the game comes with 5 seconds left, the winner 11 seconds into OT. Not bad considering Croatia hammered us 4-0 at last years tourney.

Watch the Habs, its been pretty good but the Islanders Caps game is 3-3! Play off games are so good!

Great comeback from the Caps. Play off hockey is indeed awesome. Can see Tampa beating Detroit tonight. Should've had them on thursday.

Draft lottery coming up now

...and the fecking Oilers win it  You couldn't make it up. 4 1st overall picks in 6 years. Ridiculous.

The only thing the Oilers organisation seem to know how to win (take note Kevin Lowe) is the draft lottery. All we need to do now is learn how to win hockey games. I can't help but think all this bad mouthing of the Oilers will help them next season, when hopefully with Todd Nelson still in charge we can at last put on a decent show and perhaps get close to the play offs once again.

In other hockey news, Team GB lost in the final game of the World Champs 1B and thus lost out on the gold and promotion. They dominated the game against Lithuania today, but just couldn't create clear cut chances and got picked off on the power play. I don't think I've felt as bad as I did for a hockey match since the Oilers went to game 7 with Carolina. Onwards and upwards for next year.

Poor McDavid, going to the Oilers where #1 picks go to never be seen again.

Yeah, I can't count how many top prospects have done very poorly in Edmonton for many years. This is getting outrageous in the long run.

Back to the NHL playoffs, the Habs have shown strong resilience once again by coming back from behind and now lead 3-0 in the series. This time, it was in Ottawa and yet the Habs showed great discipline overall. Also, the Islanders and the Hawks took 2-1 series leads. Tavares scored the 2-1 OT winner for Long Island against Washington with barely 15 seconds played while Chicago beat Nashville 4-2.

Calgary vs. Vancouver is a cracker right now.

What's outrageous about it? Just because we've sucked since going close to winning the cup again 9 long years ago... It isn't the players fault that the management team have failed them is it? Nelson and Krueger showed with the right approach that this team can play, hopefully Lowe and CrackT will realise that and appoint Nelson as the full time coach and then add some of the tools needed to at least challenge for 8th spot again.

Play offs have been great! Only the ducks and hab series have been one sided. Great to see Crosby score couple and get the Penguins on level terms.

The Winnipeg crowd is absolutely rocking. Shame they conceded a goal with 5 seconds left of the 1st period.

Presser in Edmonton to start in 12 minutes, the rumours are Lowe is out as President of Hockey Operations and to move over to the business side of the organisation, La Forge gone full stop and Chiarelli in to replace Lowe. Another rumour I've heard is that MacT may have a reduced role as GM, with Chiarelli taking some of his job, this hasn't gained that much traction. Will Edmonton finally have a management team to provide the coach with a team to compete? Will the new management team be able to encourage potential free agents to sign in the summer?? A change of management may mean a change of direction? I doubt they'd want to shift any of the stock piled talent, certainly not since Yak kicked up a gear once Nelson arrived.

So happy we've lost MacT as a GM as well, shame that both Lowe and MacT are still in the organisation, we really could have done with a total clear out. However, we are on the long road back to the play-off's hopefully now...

Just seen how Forsberg isn't even a nominee for rookie of the year. Shocking stuff.

That's a BS decision IMO.

In the playoffs... Jesus Christ, the Sens gave the Habs quite a scare by going from 0-3 down up to a 2-3 deficit. But finally, Carey Price played on top of his game to earn a 2-0 shutout against the only team in the NHL that always scored at least once in every game they played since the beginning of the season until tonight. The Habs will meet either the Tampa Bay Lightning or the Detroit Red Wings in the 2nd round. Game 6 is in Detroit tomorrow night.

We also have Game 7 tomorrow night between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders. To be fully honest, I would love to see the Isles going through and then set up a hell of a big battle between both NY teams.

In the Western Conference, we are set for a duel between the dominant Anaheim Ducks and the surprising Calgary Flames in Round 2. In the other matchup, the Chicago Blackhawks will square off against the Minnesota Wild. We should have 2 excellent series in the West.

Not really a shocking decision, rookies were deep as hell this year. Ekblad was shoe in for a nomination, greet defensive year for anyone, forget a 18 year old rookie...whichever of Stone/Gaudreu/Forsberg who was missing was obviously gonna get "snubbed" shit, but finishing hot is better than starting hot regardless of a playoff hat trick after it's been decided. Right three for me. Either way, Forsberg is class. As is Klingberg.
