Ice Hockey

Been watching the American feed for this game for the first time in a very long time. I actually feel a little bad for you Americans having to watch games on NBC.
Pierre McGuire is bad enough, but the main color commentary guy is just irritating.
What's wrong with Eddie? Most of the time he just lets Doc go at it which is the best part.

Meant that Doc guy. I really cannot stand him. Plus, he doesn't have to scream every time a weak wrist shot is taken from the hash marks. His hyper-active style just hurts me. You don't have to shout loud noises for people to find something exciting, and shouting very loudly isn't going to make inconsequential plays meaningful. Why does he scream "drive" everytime someone takes a shot?

I grew up with Bob Cole who used to be absolutely fantastic. I get to listen to Jim Hughson and Chris Cuthbert every week. Listening to Americans commentate on hockey games is like listening to Canadians do play-by-play on baseball games.

Doc Emerick makes hockey. You might be the only person on this planet who doesn't like him. I love his enthusiasm for the game. Adds to the production, I think. Listening to, say, Kenny Albert commentate hockey isn't the same. Though I am a big fan of our guy, Ken Daniels.

Listening to anyone commentate baseball, though, is awful.

It's a shame they never gave Al Michaels that opportunity to broadcast hockey ever again after that iconic moment in Lake Placid. I think he would have been tremendous for hockey in the US.

Meanwhile, watching the Blackhawks win the Cup in Chicago was a really special moment, especially considering how that team appeared to be going nowhere just 7-8 years ago. Their experience as former champions really shone through this time, especially with Duncan Keith being a rock for Chicago during the playoffs. Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks, 2014-15 Stanley Cup champions!

BOOM TIME!

Good for Keith, the big three all winning a Conn Smythe now. Possibly a couple of down years now due to a couple of big contracts, though if they can shop Bickell, and possibly, amazingly, one of the tier 2 core guys of Sharp/Crawford/Seabrook, maybe not.

Best team won! Blackhawks are stacked but they've got cap issues so probably the end of the dynasty!

Well, it was worse in 2010....and 5 years later they had 2 more Cups, so.....

When you have the NHL's biggest bargain contract in Keith, helps a lot.

The Oilers continue the purge, with both head of pro and amateur gone plus two more amateur scouts. Can't say any Oiler fan is to unhappy about this, the clearing of the front office will do the team some good. Though I doubt this will alter who the Oilers will pick next Saturday at the draft.

But then you let Todd Nelson walk, one step forward and all that.

Totally agree with that, Nelson had done such a good job. Would have kept him as an assistant, but I guess McLellen has his own thoughts on who he wants, and maybe there was no guarantee for Nelson as to taking over after McLellen. Which for many would have been the right thing to do. However, I don't think we've had as much hope going into a season for some time in Edmonton. Mind anything has got to be better than it has been, the fact that last Friday was the 9th anniversary of our last play off game is a disgrace for the club.

Draft day, I wonder who the Oilers will draft with the number 1 pick.... This is our Stanley Cup, we don't get near it on the ice so winning the lottery is the best we can do.

Hamilton to Flames was great piece of business by the Flames, no idea what Bruins were doing with the picks they accumulated.

Trying to decide which of the Oilers trades are actually good or bad. Like the Talbot trade, the Reinhart trade is up for debate, not sure who this Brad Ross guy is, doubt he'll find his way into the NHL, I think we lost that one and finally the Gryba trade is possibly a win trade, but it's close.

I do think we are in a better position than we were before the draft started and that's without McDavid, it's now up to Mclellen and co to work some magic.

Kessel tradeed to Penguins. Going to be great to see how many goals he will score playing with Crosby.

After Saad, Blackhawks now trade Patrick Sharp to Dallas.. It was inevitable they had to shift some players but those two were quite influential in the last couple of seasons.
