ICC T20 World Cup 2022

On bowling, Ashwin will never a match winning spinner in T20s. At best he is great to have if you a spinner like Axar or Chahal doing damage and then he will pile on the pressure even more by not leaking big runs. I actually have more confidence in Axar coming good. Too early to count him out on basis of one over. I am surprised you think there can be a such a direct correlation between IPL and T20 WC. No side with Boult like player at number 8 is getting to final in this tournament. Batting depth can win you games easily. Only reason Pak got 159 today despite that middle order collapse is because of their batting depth. As it is our batting depth is bad, Ashwin at 7 would be a crazy move and put even more pressure on DK and Hardik in later stages of the game.

Temperament required for tests is different that these kind of limited over games. At the end of the day he needs to perform in big games, especially chases to fit the billing given him. I will believe him as a match winner when I see it. Personally I would rather have a less consistent Shaw like batsman up top who is going to destroy attacks when he gets going. We saw the impact that can have in NZ game.

I think Pant getting dropped from 11 is deserved given his lack of form in T20s but I also think he is one of our better attackers on pitches that seam or bounce more than sub continental ones. If he was in any semblance of form, he would 100% play over DK given we badly need a left armer in middle order.

We should make the semis now, especially since we are more likely to bank big RR wins against fodder than Pak. So even with loss against SA, I would be confident of making it.
I agree on ashwin not being a wicket taking option in t20 but I still feel he has an important role especially with added batting impetus. Like today I thought he was very good and should have picked a wicket of shan masood if not for spider cam. I feel he is underrated.

Having said that I will never have ashwin in 5 down. Only way I would have agreed with that is if one of our seamers were also capable with the bat then fair. I won't be surprised if rohit plays Ashwin again in the future matches.

I am curious how many of the people in this thread would've brought Kohli to the WC. I was definitely in the "Kohli out" camp.

I was too at least until he hit form recently. I still believe our top 3 is not optimal. If given the choice I would have dropped Rahul and opened with ViRo. You need a leftie in top 4 and ideally SKY batting at 3. That way you can punt on Pant at 4.

I think Ashwin can be handy in this WC too. I do think we are going to have a big problem if Axar does not come good when it comes to a reliable wicket taking attacking option in middle over. You can not rely on Hardik for same in every game. Bowling wise, tactically we are really in the soup. Arshdeep needs to bowl 2 at the end and he also does well in power play as a left arm seamer against opposition so it leaves no room to use him in the middle. Shami did great last IPL as primarily bowling up top in PP. That's Bhuvi's strength also. I have no confidence in either at the back end. Harshal going off the boil really fecked us over.

India need to drop Rahul for Pant. I know the latter isn't in great form right now and there are question marks about his overall effectiveness still in this format but he's just a quality player and he offers something different to their current line up. Too many right handers in the line up.

It didn't seem like a WC until today given the last WC was just a year back. That was my final. An amazing game both teams could have won. My concern is a very small minority of idiotic fans who cause trouble and both countries' bad reps. Credit to both sets of players who played in such great spirit.

Enjoy the beautiful game.

Not before his Asia cup mini revival.

I am less keen on KL.

It’ll be disappointing if qualification for semi-finals is decided by washouts. There’s already been a lot of rain in Aus. Even India v Pakistan was at risk due to heavy rain day before.

Say what you want about the UAE but at least all the matches there are actually played :wenger:

Zim openers batting like tailenders. Their only hope is the rain returning.

Yeah true. Every time there’s a tournament in Australia or New Zealand the weather always plays a big part.

Rain projected in the next hour. Zim need to make sure they actually bat the overs. Just play dot balls throughout and hope the rain comes before the chase.

Pant or Shaw opening gives India that explosiveness that they lack in the PP. Rahul's a wasteman

Just looking at that lineup - SA seem as good a team as India or Pakistan on paper. Can see Pakistan exiting to them.

I think SAs bowling attack can be quite volatile. Loads of wickets in there, but can give away a lot of runs at the same time. They lack that little bit of control that say Australia have with Cummins who can shut off an end.

That was a decent comeback actually. 15-20 runs short probably but Zim have a couple of good bowlers.

De Kock on 36 after 1.4 overs. The other batsman hasn’t even faced a ball yet!

Target is only 64 and have 7 overs to get it due to duckworth Lewis reduced overs.

I think they might just chase this down

Pakistan game v South Africa will decide who goes through with India in this group.

Fair play to Zimbabwe. I’d be in the umpires ears every ball saying this is unacceptable.

edit - never mind, they’re going off!

Wow SA will be absolutely gutted as that would have been crucial points!

Zimbabwe are right though. It’s taking the mick carrying on with this rain.

Tournaments really need to be hosted in countries where it’s not rain season. Or at least have grounds with a roof.

Yeah. It’s obvious if they bowled the overs SA would win, but given how heavy the rain was the umpires have to be fair to Zimbabwe too.

Poor SA don’t have much luck with rain in WCs

This is where cricket is still living in the stone age. There is no common sense. Why not read the weather conditions and forecast and make it a 5 over game from the start?

It's just fecking moronic why we don't have spare days planned for world cup matches given how sensitive a cricket match is to rain.

Just unfair for a team to be cost a victory because of this.

Yeah looking at the weather forecast there’s going to be a few more matches that are ruined by the weather. Melbourne already has forecast of rain the whole week!

Gutted we only get a draw out of that. It's one thing to worry about reserve days for the ODI world cup, but seriously can they not just add 10 overs (i.e. 5 overs each team) to the next game at the ground?

That’s why you should never have world cups in Australia. Always ruined by rain

There should be spare days. They already made this mistake at the 50 over world cup, can't believe same s*** again.

Yeah that’s the stupid thing. It’s pointless needing a full 5 overs when SA have already got the required runs.

Even if they went back out and SA got all bowled out with the next 10 balls, they would have won the game. Or if they just blocked every ball until 5 overs were complete. The requirement to have 5 overs was not needed.

It’s like a team chasing a score and winning the game within 10 overs. They don’t need to bat any more.

This is absolute bullshit to be honest.

India the main beneficiaries now, pretty much guaranteed to go through assuming they beat Scotland, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
I think India were most likely through anyway barring a shock. It’s pakistan and Bangladesh who are the beneficiaries.
