ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Funny reading pages 38 on with people saying it would be close. England blew then away in end

One of the best performances by an England team in limited overs cricket.

This is a strong India team and they've just been swatted aside.

Makes the Ireland defeat seem even stranger.

I think we are over-rated like England in football often, because we have the money

The IPL doesn't have as many international class players as people in this thread think. Ishan was tried and failed. Many of the same guys - like KL - are IPL stars.

We can select better players, but it's not like we have a reserve of world beaters. They would do OK only.
Kl is not even a IPL star. He is a big game choker.

The problem is, India are rewarding the wrong sort of attitude from the batsman they're developing in the IPL as well. The Indian players coming through in the IPL (with some exceptions), play selfishly for their averages. As that's what gets them selected for the national team.

Yes. Kohli had decided to drop Rahul but then latter scored 600+ runs in an IPL season and became automatic opener again. The reason why so many Indian fans hate Rahul is that he showed in IPL itself that he can attack from ball 1 and score at 200+ SR in power play. But now he refuses to play with that approach.

The jinxers were doing their usual thing. No game is over after 5-6 overs. England have played really well in the middle overs here.
It's funny you still think people were jinxing. We are past that stage

I actually think those 5-6 overs cost India  I can see why a lot of posters are annoyed at their opening partnership. Doing that in a semi final against this England team is mad.

My unpopular opinion for this thread is that selecting Kohli didn't help us as many seem to think. I think Surya at 3 was our best option. In all his innings, he's 30 off 27 or so, and that dictates how the rest of the team plays. Simply getting Surya at 3 gets you a different game trajectory. Both Kohli and Rahul do lots of self-rescue acts near the end of their own innings which covers their bad performance.

If you go by form then you drop Rohit and open with Kohli. One player in 11 can play the anchor role, not 3. That position can be anywhere in top 3. Everyone knows this. We did as well and hence why we changed our batting approach. But then reverted back. I said at the start that this is a horrible pitch for us and we perfectly illustrated why.

Shot. Six to win it and not a wicket lost. Somebody should have put a cheeky tenner.

~The final probably has the two best teams and should be a fascinating match.

What a performance. Well played England.

Repeat of 1992 final, hopefully the same result!

Literally 5 of the pundits on commentary have mentioned india got a par score on this ground. They’ve played top level international cricket. Yet I should listen to a guy on redcafe who says par is 200.

The par is clearly not enough because of factors such as the opponent they are playing are the best in the world and the bowling performance from India has been abysmal. It doesn’t change the fact it was a par score regardless of whether it was enough.

Live on in your delusions. Watch same "pundits" change their tune after the match as well

As good as our batting was India were really disappointing in the field I thought, no energy, giving up on boundary chases. Just seemed to not be able to get their heads in it. Just no answer at all and didn’t seem to even want to try and find one

I agree however India seem intent non this approach of starting slowly which has cost them here so need to change that.
Sure. But you can see why the posters here were saying the PP cost India or why 169 might actually be par for the ground historically but today it was never going to be enough.

England just blew india all around the ground without losing a wicket and would still have just about made 200, but yeah 200 was par score right?

going for 13 in the first over set the tone too.

Bar the final 4 overs with the ball - absolutely brilliant by England.

One of the best white ball batting performances i've seen from us.

As for the Indian lads claiming they were proved right - talk about missing the point

You've got to watch the match play out. That's what we were moaning about.

Are you serious, of course they were at the beginning of the innings, obviously past it now.
You are putting pressure on the team when you score 38 in powerplay or are 62 runs in 10 overs. And let us be honest it wasn't like we were playing Pakistan's bowling. We were just playing catch up. Not that hard to understand

We simply don't have bowlers to make a difference on this kind of pitch. Bumrah is not there. No wrist spinner.

I agree with you regarding the PP, India's performance was poor in that and it cost them but many a time England have had a good PP then combusted in the middle overs. It was great to see them performing well.

Hales rubbing it in talking about how the ground is fantastic to bat on especially the PP
