ICC T20 World Cup 2022

Im a terrible cricket fan. I find myself in every world cup only getting into it at the semi final stage. This one included. Come on England!

I'm scared of all of them! We're going to win this I think. I had to book my tickets to London a few weeks ago, for this weekend, and booked it so that I won't be in transit during the match because I thought we'd be there -- one game away..

I hope NZ dump Pak out. I think NZ are the better team there but just don't want us to play Pakistan in the same tournament again, and in a knockout. Moot point if England knock us out which is very possible.

I would personally love a India-Pak final. Yeah the downside of losing a WC final to Pak is crushing to think of but this is what the sport is all about! Just don't think we are getting there. Eng is better than us on paper and on the field. Short square boundaries in Adelaide are going to suit their hitters as well. Even if the pitch helps spinners a bit, inexplicably they have the better spin attack than us.

One another sign of the improving strength of teams in the format — besides the likes of Zimbabwe, Netherlands doing well — is there’s not a big gulf in class between preferred 11s and players filling in. It happens very easily unlike a decade ago when it’d have been very evident. Klaasen stood in for Miller, the Haris guy playing for Fakhar looks class, and India have turned up here with a few injuries.

T20 international career for Surya: 1200 runs. 42 average at 180 strike rate. Has there been a batsman who has had a 1000 run patch which compares?

AB De villiers 1700 runs; 26 average at 135 strike rate.

In fairness to ABD, when I think of him at his absolute peak I am mostly talking about his IPL performances rather than T20I. I definitely can't recall any batsman like SKY in the Internationals though

Agree - I think people sort of try not to go overboard because he's not a big name, but Surya's T20 batting is at a level hit only by AB. And AB never did in crunch situations like Surya does.

The fact that he gets shunted to 4 to accomodate 3 ball wasters is basically a crime by Dravid and Rohit. We're leaving runs on the field in this tournament because of this -- because we're far too respectful about dropping/benching star players in Indian cricket. A lack of courage from the two people responsible.

Funny thing is - Rahul isn't even a star. He's achieved feck all in cricket

Honestly I’ve felt like you’re a bit overboard with the anti Rahul campaign but last couple games he’s been giving interviews saying he’s always been playing well, runs didn’t come and they’ve now started to come.. Insufferable and delusional. Just the echo chamber these guys have created for him to walk away thinking his performances are good. I think Rahul is talented but he should be told his choices are a 135 strike rate power play or get out trying for it. We will not get bailed out every match by Surya.

The most inform batsman ever. Can't remember a player having the run of form he has. You'd think teams will come up with a weakness but don't know what that is honestly. Maybe short balls close to his body that he can't ramp?
So... He's gonna be 1 from 10 balls and out on the semi final isn't he?

This thread will be pure shithouse on Thursday. Imagine if it’s a tight game decided by mankad or the trademark Stokes overthrows

As an Indian, it is a conflicted, guilty pleasure of mine to enjoy Pakistan's cricket against other teams.

You always knew there'd be drama and entertainment in this game, didn't expect it from the first ball itself. What a fine fine bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is.

It’s been a good power play for Pakistan.

Just as I type that Rauf gets clubbed away for 4 first delivery of the final power play over!

NZ 2 down after PP. Conway gone. NZ are done already IMO. The spinners will choke them even more. Philips scored big in 2 innings after getting dropped early on, so he will give a team chances to get him out. Pak will be chasing 150 tops here if even that much.

This game is rattling along at some pace.

Still don't get the people calling Pakistan boring, they are always a joy to watch be it in the field or at the crease.

Kane has great game awareness.. 130-140 keeps them in it, I would say. Too early to say it's over.

I love the sound of the bat hitting the ball when it goes for a clean six. You just know it will be gone as soon as it hits.

Surprised people say this.

People have been kneejerking and calling things all through the thread, don't think anyone's got a call right yet

This world cup has been totally unpredictable.
No team are ever out of it until they physically can ot get the runs.
New Zealand are right in this still.

They need 10 an over for the last 6. It's going to be a tight game hopefully.

Pakistans fielding now compared to years ago is just fascinating.

You gotta be joking. Pak will only have to see out Santner. Their record against Sodhi is great. Yes, they lost that match to Zim. But their specialise in chasing these kind of totals even on spin friendly wickets. NZ need a minimum of 160 here and even that will be par at best.

No one says Pak is boring? Only some find the batting approach of their top order to be outdated. Even Indian top order gets the same accusation.

The analysis in this thread in total disagreement as usual.

It's a semi final, runs on the board are important. I'd go 160 as par.

Think Pakistan will fancy chasing that. Won't be easy imo but they should do it
