ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

The higher ranked team should always bat first first. We need to get rid of the toss

You can't decide higher ranked team based on last 2 weeks of cricket. It's not like India are bashing a minnow here. By ICC standings, India and Pakistan are separated by 1 point. India are #1 117 and Pakistan are #2 with 116.

Can you, without looking, tell which games, aside from the semis and final, that you found memorable from 2019? I think Pakistan and England had a good high scoring game, there was Sri Lankas win over England, and India vs Afghan.
England/Pakistan was a cracker, NZ/WI was a close game, I vaguely recall a decent game between Afghanistan and India also.
So far there's been no standout games in this world cup for me.

I didn't think India will play this well and to be fair that top order crumble against Australia did confirm that fear but minus that blip , India has played some brilliant cricket. Entertaining and bossing the game.

This world cup thankfully will be the death of 50 over cricket. Atleast T20 matches are interesting. However in T20 again the toss is still too important. There should be a better way. May be a one over game to decide rather a toss. For a one over game toss shouldn't be that important.

Split the T20 game into 4 innings of 10 overs.

The team winning the toss decides who bats first in the first innings.

The team losing the toss gets to decide whether the team batting second, bats a 10 over innings or a following on 20 over innings.

10 wickets in total across both innings. Curious to see how it would work

It’s nice to see the inventor of the hundred on the caf.

Should be a 4 for imam that. He pushed the boundary into the ball

If India play at their best only England can get near them.

If India choke slightly, NZ, Aus, SA, and Pakistan are all capable.

Hence even if India win 9 out of 9 to make the semi's, it could all go wrong. Don't give them the trophy yet!

Exactly. It happened in 2019 as well. India played sublime cricket only to have one poor 30 mins and we were done.

We’ve bashed two teams.. we’ve been good. But I think Australia and Pakistan have been underwhelming. The rest of the big teams will be the real test.

Rohit can smash bowlers all he wants but we will keep screwing up in knock outs until this selfish prioritize your record rather than team's needs attitude keeps showing up. We need more hardiks who keep denying these selfish feckwits their milestones.

Found KL’s reaction to missing out on the century very disappointing

I didn't watch - whats' the context to the player reactions above?

Don’t know if it was more India being too good in each department or Pakistan just shitting themselves like they always seem to do when they play India at World Cups?

While we have had 3 comprehensive wins, I wouldn't still call us favorites.
We have defeated an out of form Australia and Pak just enter world cup game against Us with a huge mental block of the 8-0 record.

When teams like SA-NZ-Eng- India play against each other, then we will know who are the real favorites

New Zealand battered england

I mean you are, literally - favourites. It's not a debate topic

England tend to struggle in the group stages though.

They're much better when it gets to the knockout rounds

Englands uprise in tests has coincided with a drop in their ODI form. Fully expect them to make the semis though. They're too good not to.

Yeah, I'm normally quite pessimistic but we're definitely favourites for this.

Every bookie in the world has India favourites, from Mumbai, to sydney to London.

That's the metric used to dictate who a favourite is. Every pundit would agree anyway!

I can see England not making it. The match between Eng and Aus on beginning of Nov could be a knockout

I think the person I was responding to either referred to some reaction of Shreyas(to get a 50 with target in reach) or Rohit(missing out on a 100) -- I don't know, I missed both

I was referring to Rahul vs Australia hitting a shot and it goes for a 6(he intended to hit a 4) and he misses out on a century because the target was reached.. and he was visibly disappointed to have hit the 6

Ah ok, kind of fair enough to feel like that internally - but externally should be all team, team, team.

This Indian team has been the best team in the group stages 3 ODI WCs in a row, it doesn’t mean that much when there are doubts about Rohit and Kohli in the knockouts. The likeliest outcome still remains a knockout loss.

There is a lot of chat about 2019, but the only memorable pieces of 2019 are England/ICC flattening the pitches towards the end of the group stages to ensure England got through and the rain affecting who made it to the semis, and a final in which NZ got cheated out of a first WC win.

Otherwise it was much of the same with India winning group stage games comfortably and not very close matches in this format.

It's been very normal in here so far - good to see this kick in.

Good post :nervous:

If Ben Stokes bunting the ball to the boundary with the toe end of his bat diving in for a two was an ICC conspiracy then fair play to them IMO.

The pitch at Lords for the final was the absolute fecking complete opposite of what England would have wanted.

It was the perfect pitch for New Zealand.

But yeah it was a conspiracy and England cheated :wenger:

England 'won' a World Cup on boundary count. It's like the football WC final had stopped after extra time and the winner was decided on throw-in count.

FFS there was some good discussion in here then we see embarrassing posts like this! This is the kind of shite you see on Twitter.
