ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Whats up with the grounds/pitches? Will it be like this for the WC?

Cricinfo currently have Hasnain down with 48 maidens and 10.66 wickets in 4 overs. Great figures.

They make it look so easy. The times I’ve filled in for my mates village team I’d be lucky to even get close enough to the ball to edge it to slip

Imad might pick up some wickets here and there, but on these pitches he just seems like utter fodder to me, even i'd fancy a go at some of his darts.

Don't think much of his batting either, looks incredibly weak against the short ball

It's not just the pitches tbf. The players are generally great hitters now
Not this great..
These are the scores for this tournament so far.

This is not normal .

If they are making the pitches flatter or pulling the boundaries in to make the matches more "exciting" for the WC... it's going to suck.

These English players are quite exciting to watch from a neutral perspective however a large reason for their recent success is the tailor made pitches. It's why there's such a discrepancy between their ODI and test teams. On flat wickets, they're the best.

You don't see such hitting on the sub continental tracks and they're pancakes themselves.

Roy looks nowhere as threatening here. Morgan as well when he plays.

Buttler transfers his form, and bairstow of late. Rest of them nowhere near what are showing here.

The new rules(they aren't new anymore) and the pitches here are ruining odi cricket.

When England last toured India, the two teams broke the record for most runs scored in a 3 match series and Jason Roy top scored in the series for England.

Without anything for the bowlers, this is going to be a boring WC. I like high scoring games, but these pitches are taking it to the extreme. Going by this series, looks like 340 will be a par score!

Also, this series has shown how important Shadab is. He can be expensive, but he’s a wicket taker. Imad does a job but is not a front-line spinner.

Let's not forget the fact that Pakistan bowled absolute tosh with the new ball . England openers are usually good but Pakistan were just awful today

India's no better. The 2013 series against Australia, we chased 350 in 40 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. James Faulkner scored 100 in one match and hit Ishant Sharma for 30 in an over in another.

Looking back at the IPL, Stokes looked clueless, Butler was pretty decent, Ali was inconsistent with Bairstow performing well at home, and in the past neither Morgan, Hales or Roy have impressed. On non flat wickets - I can see this England side struggling but, as I said above, on flat wickets, England are an incredible team.

England have actually struggled today against the short ball , think this total will be a bit short

I edited the bit in about the new rules. T20 is more bowler friendly than odis now.

Buttler gone and with it probably our chances of 400. And now Moeen gone.

Buttler and then Ali gone quite quickly. England will probably struggle to make 350 here

Well, the point is that most countries aren't any 'better'. Off the top of my head the only low scoring series I can really remember England involved in have been a rain ruined series against Sri Lanka (which they won) and a series against Bangladesh when this side was still in its infancy. Most of the rest of the games have been utter run fests to varying degrees.

In complete honesty, I think the pitches are a bit of a red herring. ODIs have always been played on batting friendly tracks because people want to watch shotmaking not people crabbing around, if you go back and watch footage from, say, the 90s the average pitches look identical to the pitches this series has been played on (perhaps there was more variation, but I can't be bothered to check). I think it's mostly a change in mindset. There's a greater emphasis on scoring quickly, batsmen are more confident in their ability to hit over the infield, are less likely to settle for a boundary an over, are better between the wickets and just generally more aggressive. In England that combines with the odd dimensions of some of the older grounds.

The biggest problem to my mind is the ball. The Kookabura white ball is rubbish, it doesn't last long enough (hence why we need two per game), and doesn't swing because it has feck all of a seam. Get a decent ball and give the bowlers a chance to pitch it up and take wickets in the first 10 and we'll get a more even contest immediately.

Looked plump in first viewing, but the replay looked like it might have been going down. Anyone not having Woakes in their starting XI 3 wickets and 2 maidens in 2 overs

The one that would have been overturned was less of a stinker for me than the one they did review. That one at least looked out in real time, first one looked like it was going miles down the leg side.

Been really impressed with Babar Azam this series, looks a proper player

Unlucky way to get out. Good reaction from Buttler.

As good as the batting’s been the fielding has made such a difference. Pakistan really should have won the last game if it wasn’t for the mess they made in the field.

I like how Moeen's place never comes under any scrutiny despite being crap with both bat and bowl.
