ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Below would be my England XI for the WC:
Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgan
Buttler
Stokes
M.Ali
T.Curran
J.Archer
C.Woakes
Rashid
I would include Willey, Vince, Wood and Denly in the squad.
It will be hard to beat England if they bowl first.

Not sure how that run out wasn't given?

Wood over Woakes for me

Got the job done but in reality if Pakistan had fielded better we wouldn’t have

England keep up their record of winning while chasing at home . Pakistan keep up theirs of having centuries in losing causes

Can't see any weaknesses in this England team apart from taking wickets in the opening 10 overs. I think that maybe key to winning this wc as teams will just pile on the runs on good decks.

Wood over Woakes for me

I think Wood could be the one to miss out on the squad, tbh.

Plunkett's wickets in the middle overs have been crucial, and he bats.
Willey is a left hand bowler and can bat.
Curran bowls at the death and can bat (and has his brother's habit of sticking his hand up at crucial moments)
Woakes is good with the new ball and can bat
Archer bowls with the new ball and at the death and can bat

Wood is quick, but his record is poor, his injury record is dicey and he can't bat (well he can, but not as well as the other five)

It would be harsh on him having done well today and well in the West Indies, but I think he's the most one dimensional bowler in the conversation and I don't think he's done well enough at his one discipline.

I think that Wood will make it because you need difference makers with the ball . I think that he is definitely better than Woakes and batting shouldn't matter with this team

It won't be the be all and end all, but it is another string to everyone else's bow that Wood doesn't have. He'll get a chance in the next game and I don't think it's impossible he makes it, but his record is (frankly) rubbish, so it's all about where he currently is.

He's a liability and sucks at everything, one of those cases if he wasn't captain he would be nowhere near the team.

Yeah - us Indians have the same problem with our captain.

This Pakistan team is strange. Not sure if Hafeez and Malik should still be in the team. Babar Azam is a class act but does he have the fifth gear which is needed on these English pitches?

Also Pakistani spinners are just awful. They really need shadab back.

Also think on these pitches and ground, Windies have a very good chance.

Need Rohit to fire aside from Kohli. That guy needs to get set and cross 60 odd and then he's an absolute beast on pitches like these.

Pointless 40(55) not needed. He clearly won't be the only one getting runs in any conditions, he isn't the best batsman in the team or anything.

Of course he won't be the only one but when the whole team bats in such an aggressive way then it's good to have some stability in the middle. Against India last year he was the one who got back to back hundreds to win England the series .

On these grounds and conditions teams batting first need to play with the mindset of getting as many as they can rather than just follow set patterns and aim for a safe score . Far too many times teams get 300+ with the top order getting run a ball hundreds and then you lose comfortably

Yes England should absolutely drop their best ODI batsman of all time just to score a smidge quicker because clearly they do not have enough power hitters in the team.

Case in point Babar Azam today.
I mean it's harsh to criticize a player who has scored a century but still.

Pakistan's fielding and powerplay bowling are their concerns, not the batting. But 350 is probably the new 'par' score.

I am pretty much certain WI won't be anywhere near the SF qualifications and they would be lucky if they finish in top 8. Their bowling attack is terrible and couple of big hitters can't dictate team's fortune in this tournament format. They are the lowest ranked team for a reason.

Hafeez is definitely needed. One of few capable of clearing the ropes and can chuck a few cheap overs every game. Best combination from the 17-18 players currently in England is imo:

  1. Babar
  2. Fecker
  3. Haris
  4. Sarfraz
  5. Hafeez
  6. Asif
  7. Malik/Imad (should ideally be a pace allrounder, where have they gone?!)
  8. Shadab
  9. Hasan
  10. Amir
  11. Afridi/Hasnain

Harsh dropping a bloke averaging 60 but he's just an accumulator and there are too many of those in the current batting order.

Isn't Haris an accumulator himself ?? I would prefer swapping Haris with Malik. Also, Malik is(if not now, he was at least 5/6 months back) the best finisher while chasing for Pakistan.

Pakistani fitness and agility are terrible. I wonder what training methods and diet do they use. Their fielding will be the end of them in the World Cup.

Our bowling is depressing. Can’t see much of anything for us in this tournament because of that. It’s a shame as well, as I do like our batting lineup, but we don’t have the bowling to back them up.

Ashley fecking nurse and ‘Ricky’ Braithwaite. I weep daily.

Gayle
Lewis
Hope
Hetmyer
Russell
Pooran
Holder
Nurse
Cottrell
Roach
Gabriel

That's a pretty similar team in structure compared to England, big difference is the spinners or lack of in the case of the West Indies. Gayle will probably have to chip in a few overs. Shame Joseph is injured. Oshane Thomas has serious wheels and could be the x-factor the attack needs.

You need a player like Root. To rebuild and score a run a ball after early wickets, set the platform for the likes of Butler and Stokes behind
