ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

NZ incredibly unlucky to lose that, hammer blow after hammer blow against them late in the England innings and then to lose in that way. Gutting.

Tie during 50 overs is one thing.. Tie after the super over is another..
We had the penalties. No one wins.
Fortune favours the brave. Perfectly fair, perfectly fine way of winning it.

Great final. Great tournament. Enjoyed pitches which didn’t favour batsmen scoring 320+ for fun & actually required them to work for their runs.

What an astonishing game of cricket. Really think there has to be a better way to end it than counting 4's and 6's. There is no way on earth NZ deserved to lose in this manner - they were absolutely terrific. Nevertheless BEN STOKES YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!

Thinking about it, I'm sure that the more wickets you had in hand used to count if the scores were tied

What a game, feel for NZ as a cricket lover but get the feck in, I've sat and watched all our final defeats and until Strauss and Morgan got together we were nowhere, an absolute joke. They deserve the credit for this.

I'm an England fan, and probably in a minority of one right now. But it really turns me off when I see archer playing for England. The lad was born and bread in the West Inidies. That's where he learnt his cricket skills, yet here he is winning the world Cup for England.

Weird time to bring it up but his dad is English isn't he?

Hard on NZ, obviously great to be on the right side of it but that’ll hurt. Although with 2 wickets in hand they could definitely have pushed harder in the last couple of overs of their innings.

What a match, Congratulations England, real warriors.

Feel really sorry for New Zealand. Hold your head high for putting in such an effort.

Feel for NZ, but they properly threw this one away.

That Boult boundary catch.
Trying to push for a wicket instead of just letting England have 2
And 3 runs from 2 at the end should have been done

Don't have any problem with boundaries deciding super over but that boundary off the bat thing was stupid.

Luck is a random uncontrollable event - this is a stupid rule.. what's the rational reason for awarding 4 if it hits the bat and goes off? there really is no loophole that it closes.
:lol:That was the funniest play I've ever seen.

Neutral here. Fantastic display of cricket but they really need to relook at the rules of the game! This should have been a joint trophy.

You're right, I didn't even notice that the Super over was a tie!

Didn't they used to bowl at empty stumps? I'm sure I remember seeing that before.

They did. India & Pakistan did that in a T20 WC. Much prefer the Super Over.

They should go to another super over if it is a tie, different bowlers, different batsmen.

Loving the bitterness in this thread.

Best one day team in the world has won the WC.

eh - imagine being a NZ fan and you lost because Ben Stokes stuck his bat out and pushed it for a 4..

Weird time to bring it up but his dad is English isn't he?
Yes, I think so. But the ECB changed the rules and fastracked him to make sure he could play in the World Cup. It's not unsual for England though, we've always taken overseas players. I think it weakens world cricket when we do it.
