NZ incredibly unlucky to lose that, hammer blow after hammer blow against them late in the England innings and then to lose in that way. Gutting.
Fortune favours the brave. Perfectly fair, perfectly fine way of winning it.Tie during 50 overs is one thing.. Tie after the super over is another..
We had the penalties. No one wins.
Agree. Boundaries rule is a farce.
But this is like awarding the win after penalty shoot out finishes 5-5 to a team with more possession.
Love tears of bitter Federer fans.
With a step over 6 followed by deflected 6 no you can't get much luckier but well take it.So both teams score 15 and England win on technicality, to quote Chandler Bing, can you BE more lucky
But congrats England
World Cup decided on fecking boundaries
I'm an England fan, and probably in a minority of one right now. But it really turns me off when I see archer playing for England. The lad was born and bread in the West Inidies. That's where he learnt his cricket skills, yet here he is winning the world Cup for England.
It was a tie after SO too. Who cares about numbers of boundaries, if anything wickets is a much better count.
That was the funniest play I've ever seen.Luck is a random uncontrollable event - this is a stupid rule.. what's the rational reason for awarding 4 if it hits the bat and goes off? there really is no loophole that it closes.
You won feck all.2X World Champions
You're right, I didn't even notice that the Super over was a tie!
Didn't they used to bowl at empty stumps? I'm sure I remember seeing that before.

Loving the bitterness in this thread.
Best one day team in the world has won the WC.
Yep. The cream rose to the top. Still feel sorry for NZ.Loving the bitterness in this thread.

Boundaries. What's the rule that allowed England to win despite being tied? table rank?
Yes, I think so. But the ECB changed the rules and fastracked him to make sure he could play in the World Cup. It's not unsual for England though, we've always taken overseas players. I think it weakens world cricket when we do it.Weird time to bring it up but his dad is English isn't he?
suck it up!
They should go to another super over if it is a tie, different bowlers, different batsmen.
eh - imagine being a NZ fan and you lost because Ben Stokes stuck his bat out and pushed it for a 4..
And why not?
It's the rules of the game.Imagine the reaction on here if that deflected boundary happened to India. Absolute mayhem would’ve ensued.

You are bringing up India. Is this how you enjoy your moment? You won feck all.
Can all the salty India fans let England enjoy their moment now.
