ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Had NZ shown a bit more ambition they could have reached 260 or even 270. Ducking and leaving deliveries in last 5 overs is not a good batting tactics.

Fecks, is this why they fought so hard against India? To duck and leave balls in the last overs? At least we could have seen a more competitive final if India had progressed. These fecks better ball well

Would have taken chasing this at the start, always feel like a collapse is imminent watching us though

Heard all this nonsense when they played India.

Both teams have to bet, let's see.

Against us at least they recovered well in the end to score 92 in last 10 overs. Today they barely scored 60 in last 10. If they had scored at least 20 on top of that it would have been a reasonable effort. Think they were losing with any score less than 280 anyway but would have at least given them some momentum going into the bowling. Eng will hunt this down in 35 overs.

15 -20 years ago this would have been the biggest thing going on today. I hardly know of anyone interested in this and it features England in a final. Not a good sign....

Tickets were going for £2k outside, there are thousands in trafalgar square - and channel 4 stuck it on public TV such was the demand.

Ok mate.

I think NZ will be very pleased to be 200 up with 5 wickets spare and 5 overs to open their shoulders. They’re a good fielding side who will put up a solid defence.

All very possible but they've stumbled throughout the whole tournament and made their way into a final against a team they're not close to (and I don't rate England that high). Hopefully, they put up as good a fight as they did against us.

To be fair it doesn’t help that Federer’s playing Djokovic in the Wimbledon final and the British GP is on.

England bowled really well at the end. I think the pitch looks a lot better than 240 but we shall see.

Just pessimistic England fans and other dumb cricket romantics who believe all this 'pressure of final adds 50 runs to the total' nonsense. According to them England will be chasing 290 now.

Yeah, we chased down 270 well in 2011 even after losing 2 wickets early on. Oz too did not have to but looked good to chase down a bigger target in 2015. If NZ had gotten close to 300 then I would have agreed that even on a 300+ pitch, chasing close to 300 in a final would be tougher than 320+ in any other game on same pitch. But this total is way under par. Just because Indian top order bottled the first 10 overs, does not mean England would repeat the same in home conditions.

If the whole tournament was on free television it would of caught the imagination a lot more, unfortunately not everyone has sky.

NZ happy to just be in the game, shows their lack of quality and ambition with the bat. Probably couldn’t believe their luck against India and will need a repeat performance here whilst hoping England play brainless cricket like India did

It's a football forum mate.

Channel 4 had no say in the decision, it was sky who said they would make it free to air if england were in the final

And the demand is so high they’ve bumped it off to more4 to broadcast the F1

Let me guess, you think India are the best side?

This is such a weird argument.

This is comfortably one of the most popular threads on this awful forum at present and the idea that channel four were forced to put it on, as if the beeb wouldn't have been delighted to take over, is quite the claim unless I've missed something really weird.

Agreed, they used to have some great coverage on C4, before they moved to Sky. Really had a detrimental effect on the popularity of the game.

Fair enough if they want to put IPL and other 20 20 leagues, but this sort of thing, and especially Test Match cricket should be FTA.

Football is a different animal.

Nah that's a legal requirement.

The British GP is a crown jewel event and is required by law to be on either of the first five channels.

The cricket world cup isn't (partly because the ECB lobbied the government to remove all cricket matches from the list so they could flog them to Sky) so had to be the one that moved.

They might have decided to move the cricket anyway and the F1 may well end up with better viewing figures, but it was never a choice C4 were allowed to make.

We aren't going to agree this thread is in the "other sports" forum section, along with the Tennis and F1 threads . Ok.....
Yup, I agree, probably best you don't reply

Give it a rest fella we are all friends in here.

The british grand prix isnt on either of ofcoms A or B list of events so theres no legal requirement, pretty sure thats a decision sky took too

I think England will chase this easily. Just playing their natural way. NZ are 30-40 runs short

You know your cricket.

What you reckon?

England get the runs in nervy chase?

I genuinely fancy one of the openers to go beserk and knock this off semi comfortably again. Maybe for 5 down, and about 5/6 overs left.

Would love to see Buttler come in under a bit of pressure and play a blinder.
