ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

Roy doesn't look like a guy who will have a successful test career.

Possibly even if he is a success he’d be more of a 5/6/7 for me but considering how bad Enlgand openers have been bit of a shock it’s taken this long to at least try him. Assuming he’s picked obviously.

Maybe at 6, but I don't see him as an opener in the slightest. Barely done it for his county (and probably wouldn't even get in to their side at the minute, Surrey are stacked for openers), vulnerable to the ball swinging in and just generally looks too loose to me.

Yeah I was talking as an opener. An opener is the toughest job in tests matches where it's probably the easiest in ODI so there's a lot of difference.

Jennings is pretty awful so yeah should take his spot. Haven't seen Burns play ever.

Burns is new, think he only got his debut in that tour of Sri Lanka but he’s quality at County level to time will tell I guess.

So what's the fundamental difference between a good ODI batter and a good test batter, is it psychological?
Psychological and technical. Test cricket is named as such because it literally is a Test of the player. Both in a sporting sense, and as a man.

There really isn't anything like it anywhere else in world sport.

Vince is so unlucky. Being forced to carry drinks when all his test competitors are playing county and getting a chance to impress the selectors.

I don't think he will mind one bit if he has a WC winners medal to take home.

Bit of that. As the game is bowlers will hang the ball outside off stump trying to draw batsman into loose shots and the batsman needs to resist.

And then the challenge is also the red ball. It generally speaking moves a lot more, so facing the new balls is more challenging.

Not that much actually. You'll find that more test batsman fail to replicate their form in the LO game than the other way around. Runs are runs at the end of the day.

Tbh, if England selections under Bayliss are anything to go by he's more likely to get in to the side by virtue of impressing in the nets than he is scoring actual runs.

Was going to say the test team selections over last 2 years have been all over place. Be interesting to see how the Ashes squad shapes up though, now with Anderson reportedly out of the first few tests.

England cant chase.

The toss decides the game.

Australia v India will be the final.

Cheers lads.

Yep, I think both Ansari and Dawson have been selected having been net bowlers. Malan got a test gig because he played a good T20 knock. Rashid got picked because he bowled one good ball to Kohli. Mason Crane got picked off the back of a T20 game. Sure there've been more weird ones too.

But hey, our coach can't be bothered to watch County cricket so what do you expect.
