ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

It's harsh on NZ, for sure. You might say they should have bowled yesterday but they had no idea the whole day would get rained off.

Now they've got to go from 0-100mph in four overs and then India have the whole day to bat in better conditions.

On another note, if the ICC had had this rain rule in the group stage, India would have beaten NZ and we'd have an India-Pakistan semi-final now. They've basically screwed themselves out of the most lucrative game in cricket.

Yeah a fairer solution in my mind would have been to apply DSR and start off with Indian batting, with both sides having an innings of 46 overs.

170 dot balls in an ODI in this day and age is criminal.

Let's see how the pitch plays for both teams first.

You could well be right but there's alot of jumping to conclusions in this thread.

Yeah possibly. Not much you can do though is there really. Any solution has its drawbacks.

There is no way to design the rule in such a manner. What if India had started batting yesterday? We would have faced the same problem and would you then reduce NZ target to compensate? Too arbitrary and subjective. NZ also have gotten the chance to bowl with new ball in early morning conditions.

There was literally nothing else ICC could have done here. They followed the rules and yeah it's a bit shit on NZ.

KP says that he talked to Ross Taylor about his batting yesterday and he said that him and Williamson thought that it's a 240 pitch.

True, dunno 4 overs seems like a bit of a pisstake. Would have felt the same way if the game had reduced to 20 overs for india.

Think DLS was giving New Zealand 236 if their innings had ended yesterday so from that point of view I think they'll take 239.

Don't think India could have done better then this, sure the pitch may not be very good but I think the bowlers bowled well, except maybe Chahal and except for a difficult drop by Dhoni, the fielders have done a good job too. Upto the batters now and India bat till #8 and Bhuvi can bat too. Better conditions than yesterday plus they won't have to worry about scoring 300+ because they have a target to chase.

There is no excuse for not chasing this. We will get pilloried and rightly so.

Win predictor on hotstar shows 2% for NZ 98% for India..

A bit unfair.

Can’t believe after all those standout performances Rohit gives it away like that here.

Looking bad. I bet NZ are happy with rain interruption now. Getting to bowl at Indian top order on a covered pitch with early morning overcast conditions.

Just the initial, I think India were concerned with losing early wickets to NZ new ball bowlers and so decided to pad the batting.

Umpire’s call really is a b**** sometimes, when you see those little marginal touches like that.
