ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

@ Jay - as we speak 5 down, but as you say, 240-250 would have really made that untested and underperforming SL middle order shit their pants. But no point in working in ifs and buts...the reality is, NZ went from 192-4 to 217 all out.

That is inexcusable.

Yep. They just put up the stats for the SL batsmen. Top 3, all around and over the 400 mark for the tournament, the rest nowhere near. Big chink in the SL armor.

Its a shame too because for me the SL bowling looked nowhere near as threatening to crumble like that. Malinga, probably, rest, not so much.

Our allegiances :lol::lol::lol:

As for Pakistan I cannot separate 1971 from the cricket team, I've tried to be objective, but it is impossible.

don't want to get too deep into this but isnt that the case with most Bangladeshis with regards to Pakistan, particularly the ones who have grown up there?

same for me. dont get me started, else I will get myself banned from this site!

Don't worry, the Pakistani lads on here are good folk, I have no intention of bringing that up. It really is tragic, and the way it has simply been glossed over.

We hear about Pol Pot, we hear about Rwanda, but Bangladesh simply ignored :(

In case anybody wanted to know what BTV and I are talking about: Bangladesh Genocide Archive

Loads, but we had an entire generation get brainwashed by 20 years of rule by traitors(party created by the Army, who jumped in bed with Fundamentalist party to gain and hold on to power). So we have a generation that bought into the pre-independence mantra of the traitors

Muslim bhai-bhai, so they love Pakistan.

Forgetting that it was this Muslim bhai who was out to exterminate us. But in recent years there has been a real pushback, and we'll make sure the next generation neither

forgets nor forgives.

Im back in London now but was in Bangladesh for a few weeks catching the matches. There is a big debate there right now as to whom people will support tomorrow. The heinous actions of Pakistan are now over 40 years ago and given the age pyramid of Bangladesh the majority of people were born after the event.

Because of the nature of politics in Bangladesh (another long story), national history has focussed more on whom should take credit for liberation as opposed as opposed to ensuring that future generation never forget the tragedies their forefathers had inflicted upon them.

Confused within that is the modern day relationship with India which is not great and the propagated view that all Muslims are brothers. Tragically (IMO), that means that alot of people have become ambivalent about Pakistanis crimes (as heinous as the Nazi's over Europe's Jews) and the fact that is was Mother India who came to the rescue. Sure India had her own motivations, but no matter she still came and stopped the killing.

Net net, I'd imagine there is alot of people in Bangladesh supporting Pakistan over India tomorrow. I don't understand that, think its abhorrent and disrespectful to those who died to ensure liberation, but hey, thats just me.

not necessarily. I think one of their political parties BNP seemed to have a different mindset. anyway that is a different topic altogether.

Well, thats that. SL pack your bags for Mumbai. Well done three finals in four WC's.
its five.

Big shot, Sri Lanka into the final, well done.

Interesting stuff from Sammy and BTV. Bit of an eye opener that. I would have expected the past to be well in the front of the current generations minds given it wasn't all that long ago. Anyways, for another thread!

So SL make the finals. No easy final for either India or Pakistan.

I think that wobble at the end there is good news for Sri Lanka. Got the blood pumping for their middle order and will have given them some confidence that they can contribute to the team and are integral to their chances if they are to win. Things working out for SL at just the right time.

Whoever they face, they will be formidable opponents!

 You asians and your confused identities. You don't know what you want!

It's because not long ago we all belonged to one nation.

I was thinking along the same lines when the Welsh were booing our national anthem on Saturday despite being part of Britain.

Sports dividing loyalties.

Why are you so anti BNP out of interest?

Because Zia was a horrible fecking person, he betrayed Col. Taher, the very man who was meant to his best mate...

Not to mention, his inaction, over the death of Bangabandhu, and equally, the bringing of religion into our secular constitution.

The fecker like the Generals in Pakistan used our love of our faith to control the masses, and it has set this country back years, and if it weren't for the bravery of the common man, we would be like Pakistan today.

Sectarian violence, weekly bombings in mosques, fatwas etc etc.

So feck him, feck his wh0re of a wife, and his son Tareq(he is in London atm, I'm sure you are well aware) I've always wondered who would know if the govt. hired someone to knock him off in the UK...make it look like a robbery.

Because I don't know who you support, but that bastard will become the next 'King', I fear for the day when he finally takes over as PM :(

The fact that I won't be here gives me no comfort.

I'm not sure many cricket lovers will get much sleep in India and Pakistan tonight.

As for the players, although difficult to escape all the media hype, I'm sure both teams will have been subjected to some media blackout to avoid players getting heart attacks. This game will be won by the team who has the least shits.

Cricinfo says Pathan may play instead of Ashwin..

Bowling is weak as it is already. Is the reasoning because Pathan is mentally stronger or India wanting to extend it's batting strength?

It's more funny when it comes to cricket though because you all support four teams. And there's only eight cricket teams all together.

The reason they cite is that Mohali's not expected to take turn. They should go for 3 seamers then.
