ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

I know man.

The ICC and the WI board should do whatever it takes to win these kids back...

And why the hell did Sulieman Benn become a spinner? he's 6ft 7. Imagine Joel Garner or Ambrose deciding to take up spin instead of fast bowling? As for the Windies, I think the influence of American sports has been to determinant of cricket in the Caribbean. I can't say I blame kids for being attracted to the glamour of other sports. But anyway, as I said earlier the game has become homogenised to certain extent....losing Afro/Black West Indians to other sports isn't just bad for the game in that part of the world but the game as a whole.

I'm not sure it's the attraction of other sports and more to do with money.

I'd like to think cricket is a better sport. However, the Yanks have done a fantastic job of marketing and targeting their sport to these people and recognising how naturally gifted these people are at sports. The ICC /WI boards need to take a leaf out of their books.

Glamour, money, lifestyle. Playing in the NBA for example, fulfils all that...whereas cricket doesn't. Also, most of the people who play sports such as basketball are black...so I suspect that plays a large part in influencing young black kids in the Caribbean, too. Michael Jordan or whoever is the latest star has more appeal than Darren Sammy.... And I recall Ambrose saying that he almost gave up cricket in favour of basketball, so the influence of American sports goes back to the early 80s, the difference I reckon is that it's more widespread now thanks to cable, satellite and the internet. We're pissing against the wind in reality.

Do lots of people from the Caribbean actually make it to the NBA/NFL?

Good points...

Indeed. Far too easy being lured by what the NBA/NFL has to offer.

We're talking a choice between LeBron James and Sammy. Toiling for 5 days in the subcontinent for nothing but national pride in comparison to dating one of the kardashian sisters and wallowing in big money/fame. Sadly even I cant see another generation of Marshall, Holding and co. coming up again.

Bishu seems to be a great find.

Cricket is desperately short of quality leggies.

It nearly always is - being a leggie myself, I can't understand why it isn't encouraged to youngsters wishing to take up the game.. I mean the googly is such an easy variation to bowl in comparison to the doosra for an offspinner. Not to mention you can get more rip with a wrist action in comparison to finger tweaking.

Imran Tahir, Chawla and now Bishu... I mean not top top class, but its still nice to see Leg Spin represented. Would love for England to one day give leg spin a chance.

We should easily win this game. With Gayle out I can't see much going for the WI in the batting department.

Holding suggesting/implying WI would rather play Pakistan than Australia. Reasoning why Gayle and Roach were left out to get over the niggles.

Yet another spectacular Indian batting collapse. We just don't learn our lessons. 3rd time already in the tournament. When the going gets tough the Indians start losing.

On this form Australia/Pakistan will hammer us but hopefully we won't suffer yet more collapses in the quarter final. Hopefully.

I blame Dhoni today, Yuvraj was knackered and it should have been him that went for the big shots and tried to accelerate and if he got out, so be it, you still had Dhoni going at a decent rate

But Dhoni did it, got out and Yuvraj was always going to be out not long after his ton

No, but you ask any team, and they would rather not play Australia, despite what kind of form they might be in.

I'm surprised Windies are trying to win in that case - they'll play Australia if they win. I think.

And winning is a habit...so India could do with beating the Windies today.

I don't there's a stand out candidate this year. So, building a decent head of steam is imperative...with what? possibly 3 games left?

I think RSA have put together the most rounded team so far...good spin options - Tahir, Botha, Peterson, awesome pace attack - Steyn, Morkel, and to a lesser extent Kallis. Batting wise - Amla, AB, Kallis + a couple of others.

So no real weaknesses, other than what ever 'demons' might be in their heads and pressure filled matches.

I believe the pitches negate whatever advantage certain teams might have. India has a strong batting lineup, but if you bat on a concrete slab, well it's not going to become something else 50 overs later...

Australia have a decent pace attack, but if Lee is the only one firing, that's only 10 overs to survive.

Aus, SA and Pak are pretty similar. I fancy all three bowling attacks but not keen on their batting.

WI refusing to play Chanderpaul because he is just about finished, but even a one legged Chanderpaul is better than Sarwan.

2 matches in a row, he has simply disappeared when they team needed him most.

The England match, he batted at a snails pace, refusing to rotate the strike, and has done the same tonight, 39 from 68.

Yuvraj is having a tremendous WC so far, he is looking like a better bowler than Bhajji.

So even if we overcome Australia, we play Pakistan in the semis.

We're fecked.

The sad thing is that even with this new crop of players West Indian cricket doesnt look like getting back to its competitive best. Infact this team is arguably worse than the previous batch.

They're missing a lot of players.

Gayle(today), Barath, Dwayne Bravo, Fidel Edwards, Jerome Taylor.

Pretty strong team if everyone's fit.

The alternative was play Sri Lanka, then SA. I'll take Australia followed by Pakistan.

Just hope we don't go out in the QF. Can't wait for Thursday.
