ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Say what you like about England, but they are quite easily the most exciting side to watch and make for the most enjoyable games.

Someone remind why aren't Afghanistan at the WC? Did they not qualify, if not, why not? They looked to be a team on the up, last I saw of them...sure they had a few blokes you knew were Pakistani...but whatever.

I think they would have done better than Kenya at this event.

I suspect you haven't watched the last few India matches.

The SA collapse was due to pressure of being 270 for 1 in 40 overs? The England tie was due to pressure after putting on 338 on the board? Or the bit where we came back from dead in the game to tie it? Or was it pressure that made us win against Bangladesh, Netherlands and Ireland? Be more specific.

Evidently you don't understand the difference between shit cricket and choking due to pressure.

Pressure is having to bat out 2 days to save a game in Napier, having to bat after NZ have piled on 600+ in India batting first, having to bat out a day on a cracking, turning pitch against SA away in the final test, having to come back from 1-0 down away to Sri Lanka with half your side out injured. Been there, done that.

And if you want to argue about the ODI record, they've won about 6 out of the 8 series they've played under Dhoni or something very high like that, one of which included Harbhajan smacking a six off the last over against Pakistan. After that, we played Sri Lanka and chased down totals of 290+ with ease after the top order including Sachin had fallen.

Anything can happen, and maybe we'll fall victim to pressure, but to say this team doesn't have bottle is absolute nonsense.

They lost to Canada in their final qualifier but they qualified for the World Twenty as a result. Out of the Ashes is a decent documentary about their qualifying campaign

Psmith..tah.

So I'm predicting a win for Australia over Pakistan tomorrow, and obviously South Africa to beat Bangladesh....

Which would mean

Quarterfinals
Australia - West Indies
Sri Lanka - England
India - New Zealand
South Africa - Pakistan

Australia and India with walkovers

I'd be delighted with that.

yup coming 2nd in the group might be a blessing in disguise, I can't imagine South Africa would be too happy to face Pakistan in the QF.

Of course if Pakistan spring an upset(unlikely as it is), then you lot have to play Australia in the QF....

I don't think it's very unlikely. Australia are very beatable nowadays.

I will cheer Australia on like never before.

I think Windies can upset Australia if the above scenario plays out. Big century from Gayle with a few supporting scores.. thinking a bit too far ahead though.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oi! Oi! Oi!

In that sense.. everyone has a player in their team that can nearly win a match on his own... bar a poor display.. Oz won't lose to this WI team. Though there is a very good chance they may lose to Pakistan.....

Yea, it's just a gut feeling more than anything. And yes, greater chance of them losing to Pakistan. Can see Afridi running through their line-up.

Shahzad's injured. They've called up a guy called Dernbach as replacement.

And he was born in Johannesburg -- you couldn't make it up.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to have called up Kieswetter as replacement for Prior? I read that Kieswetter has been in the runs, recently, plus he'd solve the opener conundrum. Prior's been terrible with the bat.

They're not going to turn up with 3 seamers anymore, I doubt. Anderson's been bad for the most part, but there's no guarantee a 24 year old making his debut is going to surpass Anderson's performance. Why not just go with Anderson + Bresnan(as likely to) and get a new batsman for that replacement slot?

for the indian fans india what changes look to be made for the next match or what are the media say. i have read that raina for pathan, which i think is making pathan a scapegoat

Steyn and Morkel being out is encouraging but I could have done with Tahir being out as well

3 glorious shots from Amla, looks in good touch.

I am not the biggest fain of Raina..a flat track bully if you ask me.. but he needs to come in. He is much more reliable than Pathan and he is capable of scoring quickly as well. Also he had done well as a finisher for us recently.

SA tailenders have taken the game away from Bangla.

Rain expected in the Aus Pak game..

India is also through. Hooray!

Umar Gul is such a good bower. Pakistans ability to produce good pacers compared ours is a tad embarrassing.

After we feck up in the quarters or semis, its time to sort the mess that is our bowling. Were running purely on desire and will atm.

I'm shocked as to how Bangladesh refuse to focus and apply themselves whem batting. It's most as though they're disparate to show that they have come of age and hence need to take on bowlers that quite frankly they aren't good enough to take on.

They'd do well to learn a lot from the Irish who are make the most of their resources recognizing their strengths and weaknesses.

What's wrong with Ponting these days?

He needs to retire before people forget what a great player he once was...

Oz got lucky with the Bollinger injury. Take away Hussey and it is a very medicore line up. Pointing needs to come back in form otherwise they are too dependent on Watson, Clarke and Hussey

I'm hoping Pakistan doesn't win today, if they win, then I guess we'll be facing Aussies in the QF.

Aussies should be easier to beat.

If Aussies win today, then we'll be facing the Kiwis most probably in the QF.

However I'm basing all this situations on the assumption that we'll beat WI tomorrow.

Pakistan's fielding has been excellent today, even Kamran Akmal has been very good.

I somewhat agree with Sultan. Aussies would be easier opponent than Pak. Their pace attack has been over hyped... give them a flat pitch and they will go for a lots of runs. Pakistan though have genuine variety in their attack on make a dent on any kind of pitch. Aussies' batting line up in also only marginally better than Pak's, that too only due to the return of Hussey.

To try and sum up that Bangladesh performance would be too exhausting, so I won't bother

What are the odds of a Pakistani implosion in this one? Actually, it might be a bit fraught mentioning odds in this context.
