ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

I got tickets for the India quarters in Ahmedabad.

Now they just have to make it. Which they will. Err. Right?

Australia won't win the WC. Their bowling will let them down.

Funny to see Ponting's little strop.

Interesting to read the views of those who know more of Indian cricket than me. There will be some mightily big boots to fill fairly soon.

Some fairly huge boots to fill fairly soon in Test cricket. No so much in ODI's. In one dayers only Sachin from the 'old guard' is still around. And with the emergence of the IPL, I think we're well stacked in players ready to slot in who have good exposure.

What will be interesting to see is how the test team develops once Sachin, Laxman and Dravid retire, who will step into the test team, because it's away tours to Australia, SA, England etc where these guys have basically carried us for years, and where technique comes into question.

So I think we could well struggle for a bit unless before they retire others are gradually given chances in the test team.

Yep, I was pretty much talking about test cricket, amol. I enjoy the other forms but TC is where it's at. I wish NZ played more TC but we're poor at all forms of the game at the minute so not a big draw card.

I don't know if it is just me but in Virat I see a Dravid replacement. Similar technique and aura about him.

Watson misses out on a hundred again. How many big 50s does he have this past year? He must've missed out on 7-8 hundreds easily.

Big match today....

The population of the WI has risen by 170mil for the duration of the match....not that it will do any good. I think England will show up, and put together a good win.

I fear the worst today and on Saturday. Morkel and Steyn will destroy us. Both have been bowling plenty quick on these docile pitches and Morkel especially has an Ambrosesque talent for getting steepling bounce on any wicket. Always hits the splice of the bat.

Yeah, I expect disappoint. But in the end, the tournamentr hasn't been a disappointment. The goal was to beat the two teams below us, and to beat one above us.

WI are below us in terms of rankings, but we all know, they are a better team, and will jump up the in the rankings in the next 6 months or so....

So 3 wins out of 6 is fine, I suppose the capitulation to the Windies is the only thing that really stings...all out for fecking 58  RSA will murder us, A good length delivery for Morkel will be around the grills for most of the midgets that play for our team, he and Steyn will rape us.

Might be good in a way, get to enjoy the rest of the tournament without a knot in my stomach.

I suspect Steyn or Morkel might be given a rest and Tsotsobe given a run. Not that it makes any easier for you since he's number 10 in ODI's. He's been really unlucky not to make the team. Was in stunning form vs India but will have to see.

I don't think we will batter you guys but we should win again you. However, since we qualified I won't put it past us to take our foot of the gas and give you an opportunity.

Also, if Chris Gayle fires today then anythings possible. WI are very unpredictable.

So what's this song that the Windies use as their "national anthem" then?

There's a passionate disinterest written on their faces while it plays.

Commentators saying it's some sort of cricket-specific anthem adapted from a popular calypso song.

Missed opportunity IMO, calypso is a bit outmoded these days. I'd have gone with a more contemporary reggae or dancehall number that captures the imagination of the Carribean's youth. Perhaps something like Bob Marley's "Redemption Song".

Or even better, something like "Zungguzungguguzungguzeng" by Yellowman.

They'll need Sobers circa 1970ish to haul in the total England are about to compile. I fecking hate pitches like this.

Was just taking the piss out of the selection of Andre Russell on facebook til that delivery. That's shut me the feck up.

His run up's a bit long though. Doesn't generate enough pace for a run up that long, and I suspect it only tires him out.

Commentators have just said Marlon Samuels was picked in the squad but he declined to come. Don't know what's up with that, but it's a crying shame he's not at this world cup. He's got a wonderful arsenal of shots when he's on - a brutal hitter.

Been waiting a long time to see him play international cricket again after his drug ban.

He was apprehensive of being hauled in by Indian police.

fecking useless cnuts. I know it's a terrible pitch, but there's no excuse for bowling these lines.

2 down now.

Russell has a great strategy...bowl rubbish at the batsmen, they'll eventually get careless and get out.

It's working so far...

3 overs, 25 runs given away, but 2 wickets.

Good job the Shermanator's around to bring the run rate back to earth.
