ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

If Pak lose to Oz and SRL win against to NZ, they will finish 4th.

If they lose to Oz and NZ win.. they come 3rd...

If the win and SRL win.. they come first..

If they win and NZ win.. they come second..

I think it will finish- Oz, Sri Lanka, NZ, Pak

In the other group- SA, India.... cant predict.. Eng-WI so dunno *** the last two...

Just for the sake of safety, I think any Pakistan vs India game should be held either in Colombo or in Dhaka. Its just not worth the minute chances of a horrific unthinkable things to occur. Just why take the risk.

Else, just for the heck of it, take it to Calcutta and put it on at Eden gardens!!!

My problem is that it only fair that Pakistani nationals be allowed into what ever country hosts that game should it come about. I just doubt that India would allow 100os of Pakistanis into India right now and I don't think that is fair.

Very unlikely they'll finish 3rd.

And host nations play all knock-outs at home. India will play Pakistan at Ahemedabad if it's in the QF, regardless of where they finish. The venus and the dates are pre-arranged, but the matches aren't.

And on another note..

Eden Gardens' WC 2011 debut tomorrow.

I was there for day 4 and 5 of the famous test vs Australia in 2001. The Dravid/Laxman/Harbajan miracle which in my mind in the greatest test match ever played. How Eden gardens rocked during those 2 days. It was simply unforgettable.

Anyone with more pics of the renovated Eden Gardens? must say it's a bit underwhelming. Madras/Chennai's had the best make over. Lovely ground.

What's the capacity at Eden Gardens now? Must be quite a bit lower now that they've filled in the terraces with seats.

Five down.

Du Plessis goes.

Nice catch.

Ingram make his world cup debut, quality player.

Their bowling's been really good. They're not like Bangladesh or Zimbabwe heavily reliant on spinners. Great mix.

Great recovery so far...as I typed that, Ingram out. Played well. Got us into a position to post a decent score. 250+ will be defendable with our attack.

Well played Jean Paul, deserved a 100.

272/7. Depends on well SA bowl but this score can be defended easily or we could have an O'Brien moment...

Class from Duminy. Selfless.

Something Mahendra Singh Dhoni spoke about the other night. This is something that Duminy does countless time for SA and he will probably have to do it again in this tournament. He played sensibly and controlled the innings very well.

Sad to see him miss out, he knew it as soon as he hit the shot too. The crowd was very good, and very appreciative(which hasn't always been the case at this tournament).

Comfortable win for South Africa, very good innings from Duminy and good bowling sees them qualify for the knock-out stages.

I like the fact he's can extract extra bounce...and can bowl around the late 80s to 90mph. Not bad for player playing for an associate....

Been playing county cricket the last 5 years, and worked under Allan Donald for a year or so.

So aside from his physical attributes, he has had the right kind of 'education'.

I'll say it again, Ireland could become a decent cricketing nation, they need to promote the game at school level. Imagine Ireland beating England in the Test arena....they'd go mental, which is why they shouldn't regard it as a game played by the 'evil' empire.

They've been playing for a while...the battle between Ireland and Bangladesh for legitimacy in the international arena dates back to the mid 90s...of course most aren't aware of this, and think Ireland came out of nowhere at the last WC.

Yeah I suppose it could carve out a little spot for itself amongst other Irish sports(obviously it'll never be the dominant sport) but enough of a niche so that it can continue to progress.

Yeah but the difference is cricket seems to be well loved in Bangladesh, whereas Ireland have no such interest in the game...yet they've still managed to produce a few decent cricketers, mainly thanks to the country circuit/Irish expats(probably). I wish more nations'd play the game, it's a bit boring when only a handful of countries show a keen interest or even a partial interest. Netherlands could be another target...but I suspect there's little to no chance of Holland taking the game on.

Yup, that's why the football World Cup is truly great....every nation on earth plays it, and it really is a world sport.

Cricket in terms of numbers is huge(India :lol: ) but in reality it is such a minor sport...bit like the Rugby and Rugby league World Cups.

I agree. The saddest thing is that cricket's only a major sport in the subcontinent. We should be spreading the word...and making it into a truly global game...instead of this homogamy. Look at Canada, their team's full of Indian expats...with the odd Jamaican or Pakistani thrown in for good measure. I'm not pleased at all. We should target nations that are shite at football. Like Scotland.

and England?

:nervous:

Haven't had a chance to comment in this thread but I think this has been the best world cup since 99 thus far, just hope the knockout stages kick on even further from what has been an exhilerating opening group stage with most of the big talents and hitherto unknown one's firing.

I hope Ireland do kick on. I reckon it will take them over performing at the WC at some point to do that. Maybe a semi final appearance or something.

I just hope they can hold on their players.

A couple of questions for you, amolbhatia100!

I see you guys were talking about Irfan Pathan. What's the deal with him? Form? Attitude? Fitness?

Also Rohit Sharma. Every time I see that guy, technically he looks superb. Why does he not get more of a look in?

One more. That bloke Tiwary(sp?). Young guy who plays for Mumbai. Saw him v NZ a couple of times in Oct/Nov. Looks good. Big future?

Cheers for now!

A couple of questions for you, amolbhatia100!

To be honest, Sam, I'll firstly admit to have become a little distant from the game in the last year or so, so I might not have the best answers to some of those questions. I've tended to watch just tests and ODI's and ignore the rest of the nonsense (International T20's, IPL etc)

I see you guys were talking about Irfan Pathan. What's the deal with him? Form? Attitude? Fitness?

The Irfan situation is IMO the worst thing to happen to Indian cricket this past decade IMO, apart from losing the WC final of course. When he broke out he was sensational and IMO had the talent to be one of the best all rounders in the game. He had the unique gift of making the ball talk and at a fairly quick pace.

Somewhere down the line he began to become an important part of the team with BOTH bat and ball. And that's where his problems began. Slowly but surely he began to become more of a batsman than a bowler. And eventually he lost the thing that set him apart, the swing.

I don't see fitness as being an issue. He's been fit but seems to have lost the ability. Seems to clearly be a mental thing. But it is startling how someone with so much talent can become so rubbish so quickly. Now, unless he's made a resurgence in first class cricket of late, as of the last time I saw him, he just seems to be a regular 75-80 miles per hour bowler that has nothing notable about him whatsoever. Big shame.

Also Rohit Sharma. Every time I see that guy, technically he looks superb. Why does he not get more of a look in?

Rohit Sharma is a top talent from what I've seen. And he has gotten a look in every now and then. Got a few hundreds earlier this year too I think, but the quality that we already have in our ranks at the moment meant he missed out on the WC squad.

He should have a bright future because he's very talented but right now the likes of Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli have been preferred largely because the former can bowl better and the latter has just made a terrific start to his career.

One more. That bloke Tiwary(sp?). Young guy who plays for Mumbai. Saw him v NZ a couple of times in Oct/Nov. Looks good. Big future?

No idea to be honest. Looks a big hitter from what I've seen but he's only made a mark in the IPL, and I don't watch as much T20 as I do other forms and I don't consider it a great indicator of talent.

Rohit won't have a bright future because his attitude's wank. On the attitude scale, he's like a shit Yuvraj, and that's saying something. I would be loved to be proved wrong. He's the one cricketer who can be one of the replacements for the 3 that will retire soon in the test team, and not make the quality go down drastically. Kohli, Rohit and Pandey. I'd go as far as to say we might not even slide too much, they're just cracking talents. Fingers crossed on Pandey.

Tiwary's crap.

Today's the last day of a meaningless match in the WC. All important matches from tomorrow.

I don't know about Rohit or Pandey but Virat Kohli is an absolute gem of a talent. He has the technique to play anywhere in the world and not just the subcontinent.

He's just too young to make claims like that to be honest. Expect most young players to fall into the 'brats' category and hopefully mature with time.

The one I really like is Kohli. Seems to be very level headed too. Has captained India at the younger age groups as well.

Zing is spot on about Rohit. He has had a lot of chances in the ODI team and has failed to convert them and stake a place in the team. He just seems too causal for his own good. I do not rate his technqiue and all round play as much as others. Only time he has ever shown is on flat pitches, that too in ODIs. Very good player of spin though.

Tiwari ... early to say.. due to IPL he is overrated right now. I would be surprised if he ever came close to our test team..might make it to ODI.

He's only 23.

Yong and learning and all that.

Talent is there though.

Australia wont advance very far with boneheaded displays like this...Ponting and his moronic 'lets bounce them out" strategy failing yet again.
