ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

And you're a microcosm of the problem of Indian sport. An unhealthy obsession with Tendulkar that makes a mild criticism seem like some sort of personal insult.

yes but we're talking about THE greatest ever sults. And if you go to the football forum you'll find lots, amol included, arguing that Messi can't be the greatest until he wins the WC.

But he hasn't done the impossible though as he?

Like you say doing the impossible would be winning the WC or beating a great Australian team with a mediocre team.

And India were never that bad, we've had amazing batsmen throughout Tendulkar's career and even some decent spinners.
messi plays for Argentina ffs. After Spain they have the most incredible array of footballer. Over four world cups given that sort of talent he should win it once. The comparison is stupid.

Oh he has done the impossible unless you've been watching Indian cricket blindfolded for the last 20 years. And he's consistently been brilliant against Australia, which is the toughest test in cricket. And Hes helped us beat then umpteen number of times.

Gavaskar was like boycott. A snail of a batsman. Once booed by his own fans.

100 international hundreds soon. Wowwwww

Yeah, you're only saying that because he's Indian. And Boycott was a very good batsman. The difference is, the game has changed and we expect all batsmen to be able to strike the ball out of the ground. At one time, it was frowned upon - play across the ground, sonny, don't try to play golf, it's for golfers, spoons.

because who is Indian?

That's all well and good but he couldnt dominate attacks. Quite clearly not the greatest (gavaskar).

He was the masterblaster, Tumbs... and I'd like you to spread cricket throughout Ireland. Cricket needs another power.

I saw him play for Somerset v Yorkshire in '84.

He came in at tea at about 4 o'clock and he was 86 not out, sank 2 pints of lager whilst talking to me, an unknown schoolkid for a full 10 minutes. I was on the balcony near the press lads, radio commentators etc. He went back out and tonked Yorkshire all over the pitch ending up with 168 runs. Definitely the greatest from my experience.

I watched Ireland v West Indies, they aren't that far off are they.

Tumbs, I thought you were Ireland born and bred? Did you watch Holding live? I saw him play at the back end of his career....and he was still a joy to watch. Whispering death indeed.

No, I'm being very nice, JW. In fact, I'm being too well behaved. Tumbs and I have been great in this thread. Blame Amol.

Born and raised in a place called Scholes mate, near Holmfirth. Moved to Ireland in '95.

I was mad into test cricket but never saw Holding live. I saw Bob Willis destroy Australia live at Headingly in the early 80's, saw plenty of Holding on the box though. I'm trying to think of the fourth bowler, they had Holding, Marshall, Gardener, can't remember the fourth from that side. Best pace attack I've ever seen that West Indies side.

I got my car stuck in Holmfirth many moons ago. I think other bowler was Croft or Roberts.

India should've taken the 3rd powerplay straight after the second. I don't understand why teams don't use them at the beginning.

India are like Arsenal. Bloody woeful bottlers. Only India (and England) could collapse the way they did today. 9 wickets for 29 runs. Unbelievably embarrassing.

Strange post on my levels. This team has shown their bottle in many tests and ODI's.

and I agree with Spoony that India should've taken the PP when Sachin and Sehwag were going great guns, I think the captains these days have got some kind of mental block regarding the power plays in the sense they'll always wait for the last 20 overs to take the powerplay.

If both India and Arsenal win tonight

India yet might win but this is the second time we've done this in the tournament and it's getting pathetic. Collapsed late on vs England as well and today was even worse. Not even lasting 50 overs is just shocking.

We do well when it comes to any tournament that is not a huge tournament. When it comes to the Champions Trophy and/or the World Cup something happens to us. Maybe the pressure gets to us? Against England we were extremely poor at the end of our batting and today surpassed that. As someone said, it's like the good old days, Sachin gets out and the team seems to go into collapse mode. If this was any other tournament other than the World Cup I don't think we would have seen SUCH a collapse. Anyway I'm hoping we've fulfilled our quota of collapses for the tournament because 9 wickets for 29 runs is unacceptable.

Sachin and Viru were going fine and scoring at a very good rate without the need for PP. Collapses happen, I'm not sure why there's so much condemnation. Any team would have taken 300. If the bowlers can't manage to get a victory with that score then the problem lies with the bowling attack.

The collapse was brought on by the PP. Had they taken it at the beginning they wouldn't have needed to lash out later on - I'm sure they would've been more than happy to pick up the singles in addition to the odd boundary were it not for the PP. The PP makes people do stupid things. Also, singles dry up, forcing players to hit over the top. But yeah, they were going great guns....till the PP.

At the start of the match? Maybe. After being 267-1? Not a chance. And the problem in this tournament is that even 300+ have been chased down a number of times and bowling isn't the greatest. Anyway I hope we're done with our collapses for the tournament. Rather now than in the knockouts.

Amla's form in ODIs has been exceptional the past year, a classy player.

2 boundaries in 17 overs for RSA, these two need to get a move on, or else there will be a ton of pressure on AB

Required Run Rate is up to 7.37. India need to keep it tight and as we found out, "wickets in hand" is not always of the greatest help.
