ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

They are still slow & green compared to the pitches in SA. Lets put it this way, you shouldn't bowl short of a length all the time in England. Possible exception is Old Trafford. The pitches may seam a bit but in general it's the atmospheric conditions that provide the assistance to the bowlers.

When are they coming over? early summer?

When are they coming over? early summer?

July/August I think. Sri Lanka first early on. But not that it makes much difference; it's hardly going to be 30+ and dry all summer. I always think that the early summer thing is a bit of a red hearing; it rains all the time in the UK and they cover the pitches anyway. It may seam a tiny bit more May/early June but that's about it.

English conditions are nothing like SA, they're not dry, hard and bouncy. They're slowish, greenish and moist.

Traditionally our batsmen have struggled more on pitches like in SA than English ones. Anyway, as I said let us just wait for the tour to start, still ample time left.

Even Tendulkar might struggle when he's edging balls to the slips which a lesser batsman wouldn't have even got near to.

Why would Tendulkar do that? He's a batting genius and he's always loved battering England. The only reason I can see it happening is due to age and slowing down of reflexes in which case it has nothing to do with other batsman.

You won't be scoring 400-500 runs just between 4 batsmen in England as seems to often happen in the sub continent.
No we'll get that many with the whole team contributing and we've ton it lots of times before in England. I don't see anything superior in your attack this time. It's the same story with new names. Back then you had Flintoff who was apparently the best all rounder ever (tm) and Hoggard who to be fair did move the ball a lot. We dealt with it. Next time around we beat you.

Don't underestimate England's bowling attack, particularly in England. You do that on your peril.
The England bowling attack has improved an amazing amount since India last toured England. Anderson, Broad, Tremlett, Onions, Finn and even Bresnan will be a handful in English conditions. They will swing it from the start and even start reverse swinging from over 20 or so with the Dukes ball. As a batsman you will struggle against banana balls bowled at 85mph or more no matter how good you are. And England has a world class backroom nowadays, you can bet your bottom dollar they will have worked out a strategy for each of India's batsman.

Really that lot is nothing to be feared. You shouldn't underestimate England's attack like you shouldn't underestimate India's. Both attacks are decent without being special. And it takes a special attack to strike fear into such a talented batting line up. We'll have our usual issues with bounce but we should be able to handle it like we have in our recent tours to all England, Australia and SA.

We heard all of this before each of our last two tours to England as well. You had beaten a better Australian team in the Ashes than the current one. Yet we had all the answers. Both teams can bowl well none have particularly great attacks. Both like swinging conditions. So it's fairly even in that respect.

True. But really it's not the case anymore. Now we've gone to pretty much every nation in the world and dealt with their conditions. We used to struggle most in Australia and SA but our last two tours to those places we've done really well, barring the first test in both cases, I think.

I don't know where to start… but one thing I never said it would be easy for England and Flinthoff and the other key bowlers from the previous Ashes series were either injured or badly off form. The England side was a mess then due to controversy and injuries.

It seems to me that you are unwilling to accept any notion of criticism about the Indian side. The sheer suggestion that India might not get things all their way this summer is just wiped of table by you, despite the arguments put forward.

I also wonder by your Tendulkar remark whether you have played (league) cricket before?

I cannot wait for this Summer - I reckon it will be a cracking series. England to win 2-1.

Ireland are a quick wicket away from being sub 200 i reckon.

Yes, yes always injuries and bad form. Never simply beaten by a better team.

I accept a lot of criticisms about the Indian side. Out bowling is nothing special and I'm not seeing the young technically gifted batsman replacing the Sachins and Dravids of this world. Then again as I said there is a lack of them in general.

I have never said we'll get it all our way. I don't even expect us to win. It could go either way depending on form at the time IMO.

I didn't say India weren't the better side last series in England either! Of course they were, even though the margin of victory was quite small. The current England side is much much better than the one of that series particularly in the bowling department. The previous series will have no baring what so ever. The personnel of the England side will be different for starters.

Fair enough. I do think beating your lot away from home twice in a row won't be easy. I'd take a draw and then beating you in India.

It's going to be hell of a battle because I think India have some bowlers who will do well in English conditions, especially Zaheer. India also have the advantage of the likes Laxman & Dravid having plenty of county cricket experience.

Our bowlers like yours do better in swinging conditions.

Dravid, Laxman and Tendulkar going by history shouldn't have any problems whatsoever but age is a funny thing.

Ireland. Wow!

76 off 38!?

I wish I had been watching this for the last hour.

England will win this but well done Ireland.

Ireland putting up a great fight.

I thought English bowling was gonna get better..especially with super Broad returning....

If we keep bowling like this and big Kev keeps hitting them the way he is i am not so sure !! This is not looking good !!

England lack a good death bowler, Shahzad could be useful for that job but who do you drop?

It will still be nice for him to get the fastest ever 100 in world cup history, but all our bowling displays have been woeful !!
