ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

 at our bowling. It really is average barring zaheer.

Also Im not too happy with this match in general. The pitch had nothing for bowlers. Rubbish pitch.

Huge positives for England. Nothing for India. Already knew that they were a good batting side. Learnt that their bowling's even worse than we thought.

I still can't believe Dhoni's field placings.

England's got a few positives but like India the bowling's an issue...in particular Anderson. I think both attacks must've conceded around 600+ in two games. But yeah, India should be defending a monster score like that. Although, due to flat tracks and PPs scores over 300 are more than chaseable.

Still catching my breath in a match England should have won but their middle order gave it away. But India will also feel they gave it away.

Btw, some of the Indian batsman are going to struggle in England this summer. England's bowling will be a different cup of tea altogether and the technique of some of the Indian batsman is simply not equipped for English conditions, no matter what for form cricket they were playing today.

Whose technique are you talking about?

Just wish that was a knock out game, feels wasted in what essentially is a dead rubber.

Are you going to congratulate my genius for predicting Strauss and Bell were England's last two batsman?

we've heard that before. Still managed to beat you in your own back yard last time. Almost did the same the time before that. Not much struggling that.

But seriously I can't get over our bowling attack. Were atm a one man attack with zaheer having to do it all. Hard to see us winning the tournament with an attack like that. Compare that to Sa who have real class in their bowling ranks.

is right. I would be surprised if we win the cup with such a shambolic bowling attack.

England will take lot of positives from this. Despite the bottle job in the end, it will give the much needed confidence after the poor showing in Oz and below par performance against the Dutch. Their bowling unlike India's has much more potential to improve. They need to drop Collingwood though.

Mmmm ... we will have likes of Sachin, Laxman and Dravid in test team, all of whom have proven themselves more the often in swinging or bouncy tracks. Will be a test for Gambhir and Sehwag, but I think the former will definitely prove himself.

Sehwag and Dhoni have never relied on technique. Their success comes from quickness of eye/hand coordination.

We'll do fine in those conditions. We're a good test team. And our bowling actually thrives more when the ball moves because we haven't really got genuine pace for it to be that much of a threat anywhere else and our spinners aren't that great anymore.

England will do fine without winning it IMO. But yeah hard to see us doing so either. I actually don't remember us being so poor in the spin department. We've always been reliant on our batting but for the attack to look so shocking in our own conditions is madness.

Sehwag is yet to prove himself in alien conditions. He failed in SA as well. England will be a big tour for him.

Will be an interesting summer thats for sure. Perhaps the Indian cockiness will take a reality check as I think they will find this England team very hard to bowl over in their own backyard.

With regards to today, lets not forget Morgan and Broad were missing and are both quality ODI stars who would have been ideal to slot in after Bell and Strauss.

I think Andrew Strauss played one of the best knocks in one day international history today. Sure he had some luck, you always do if you score 150+ in an ODI, but given he'd endured 3 1/2 hours fielding in the hot sun beforehand, had the pressure of being captain and opener and chasing a daunting 339 to win, all things considered, it was an historic innings.

Easy there. No innings on a pitch like that can be anywhere near the best ever.

I thought dropping Bopara and bringing in an extra spinner against spin masters was what mattered most today.

India come out of this with very few positives. We know they can bat ... and yet they chocked at the end of their innings with an appalling finish. They should have gotten 25 more runs which would have put pretty much any side in the world out of the game.

As others have mentioned, they have now conceded 620 runs in 100 overs of cricket .... which is shocking. And unlike England who have Broad in the squad, I don't see any better bowling options. All teams will be analysing them very closely looking for the weak spots and this area has glaring red lights all over it. Their fielding today was also appalling, as it was in their first game against Bangladesh.

And lastly, I was shocked at how easily they lost their heads and morale when Bell and Strauss were charging along. There heads dropped too easily and it was obvious they did not know what to do. In the end, it was the injury to Bell that meant England lost momentum for a few overs, so much so that Strauss took the batting power-play to regain the ever so slightly lost initiative and from there Zaheer got lucky with his Bell dismissal.

In short, if I were in the Indian camp, I would not be too happy.

Pitches smitches. In ODI, the 'pitch' is an overblown factor. Case in point Mirpur Dhaka: India & Bangladesh score 650+ runs in a day and a few days later, Bangladesh & Ireland can only muster 450 between them.

No, with the atmosphere, pressure and sheer mountain ahead, it was a truly memorable innings. I've seen alot of CWC's and cant remember too many innings I rate above this one. He played such a great variety of shots, scored consistently throughout the innings and gave his team the platform from where they should have easily won the game. Not much more the poor chap can have done.

I think this'll be a good world cup... I love the atmosphere. They're all crazy cnuts. And I don't think a host nation has ever won the WC, so I suspect India've got their work cut out. And they should rotate the WC between Oz, England and Asia...and forget the Windies and South Africa. Would also be good if they could expand the Asian World Cup even further...Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah would make great additions.

I am not too bothered about the collapase in the end, that can happen at times. I do not think with our bowling an total was safe. An year ago we almost let Lanka chase down 400+

As in it went against England? I though Yardy was pretty useless with the ball and failed with the bat. Of course we don't know how Bopara would have reacted in the run chase, But I think I'd rather he came out to bat when Yardy did. The game was set up for a player like Bopara to help finish.

Also a lot of tripe there. Bell may have thrown his wicket away but Strauss's dismissal was more crucial. Zaheer bowled superbly in that spell.

At least our bowling did not concede 290 against the dutch. Broad is hardly Warne/Mcgrath who is going to win you matches. Besides we are also missing Praveen Kumar, one of our better bowlers. But yea, your attack has more scope to improve than us.

It is just a shame they have scheduled it so poorly. Knockouts are almost a month away.

Zaheer bowled well, but Bell's injury and the oddly timed powerplay changed the game.

England are without Broad and Morgan lets not forget.

Yuvraj needs to bowl earlier and bowl more. Either that or drop Pathan for a bowler.

When he comes on in the 21st over, opponents know they have 10 overs to nurdle around from overs 20 to 30 with part timers on. He's bowling very decently and his quota should be taken out of the way as fast as possible.

I'd drop Pathan, but for Raina. The intensity he brings to the fielding is great.

i dont agree. all proper tours should last at least 6 weeks.

This format allows teams to find there rhythm and have to perform consistently. I don't mind the format at all.

Yeah, it could cause people to lose interest. The WC didn't really kick in till the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game...and today's match was even better, I just hope our interest is maintained despite the long drawn out scheduled. Anyway, you can't help but love the passion.

I think 'ifs and buts' are silly. There's no way to predict what would have happened in hypothetical situations. Broad might've come in for Bresnan who took 5 wickets and gotten smacked around. If you claim Morgan will have made a big diff to WC's campaign, I'd say most certainly. But in a one-off match, ifs and buts are silly.

Agree. Pathan is too unreliable. We also miss some one like Ganguly who can give us some overs of seam bowling.

Also, I think 3 seamers is the way to go. It worked well for us in all the ODIs over the past 12 months. We beat Sri Lanka and SA both 4-1, if i'm recalling correctly.

Sachin, Sehwag, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni, Harbhajan, Nehra, Munaf, Zaheer

Bowl Yuvraj from the 15th over. If the rate's not too high, get Kohli/Raina to bowl an over or two and try to finish up that quota as fast as possible.

If that doesn't work, nothing will. Chawla doing so well in the Banglore warm-up has given us an extra option, but the problem is, all our part-timers are spinners. It's not ideal.

I don't think it is ifs and buts to say that the game changed when Bell got injured and England decided to take the powerplay?

My point about Morgan and Broad is that England were under strength.

I think that's why I have some hope for this being a good tournament. Yes I am worried about the level of play and the contest between bat and ball, but it counts for a lot that the places it's being held in actually give a shit.
