ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Bowling Chawla so late on was idiotic. He is always susceptible to leak too many in an over. Shame Sehwag can not bowl anymore, he used to be very handy to get in a few overs.

Felt the same way. The moment I realized he was bowling the second last over I saw England winning. Inexperienced leggie who is known for flighting the ball lots isn't really ideal in that situation.

I told you lads it was still not going to be an easy win for India just because they put up 338. I told you I will be surprised if England did not put up a fight.

What a match. Cricket is the winner!

Concerned about our bowling attack big time. I don't know how we can even change things that's the bigger problem.

When we lost Gambhir we should of sticked with Kohli or brought in Pathan, I know a lot of Indian fans don't rate Pathan but he is crucial to our world cup plans.

His last best three innings were when he had time at the crease to settle in and go for it.

Yuvraj had time to settle in and make his runs but Yusuf came in and had to swing from the hip from the start and then of course you have a risk of getting out quick.

We got Ireland and Netherlands our next two games, so maybe some testing with certain combinations and maybe game time for a couple of other players.

About Bell review, I understand why it was not given out but that was plum and commen sense that should of been given out.

Credit to England though played awesome through the run chase.

Both teams have concern in bowling attacks but for India I really hope the tie has not papered over the cracks.

India have had showed real fighting spirit in south africa in the odi series when they looked to have lost the match and again today but the hype, the media, the fans has to go down a notch otherwise it could just end in tears once again.

Related to my posts a couple of pages back. Don't bother looking back, not that funny now but one other person here will understand. :)

Alrighty.

I think I'm the only one who didn't particularly love that game of cricket.

I didn't, either. I didn't feel any excitement, I don't know why. Not only do I prefer lower scoring games, but I was too busy breaking my head over the shit fieldings. We should've won that by a decent margin. Mind boggling how we can't defend 338. At least four other teams in the WC would've done that.

My reasons are the same as above, but probably equally weighted towards our inept bowling attack and the lack of assistance for bowlers in general from the pitch.

Sehwag and Dhoni have never relied on technique. Their success comes from quickness of eye/hand coordination.

I can accept that Tendulkar, Dravid and Laxman should be ok, although batting will be difficult even with a suited technique. I also like the looks of Gambhir; he could do well. But all the others I'm not sure of at all. They seem to play far too much limited overs cricket in India. The players like to play their shots and all seem to either plant their front front forward or stay backwards. You can't do that against quality swing/seam bowling in slowish bowler friendly English conditions. You need to play the ball with a straight bat as late as possible and keep your feet moving.
The English bowling will highlight those short comings. India will need the help of middle & lower order batsman otherwise they will be facing collapse after collapse undoing any good work by the likes of Tendulkar.
Funny enough I would be less worried about the bowling in England because the likes of Zaheer and Harbhajan should also enjoy bowling in English conditions. Zaheer will be a handful over here.

So

Tendulkar
Dravid
Laxman
Gambhir

are accounted for...

Sehwag will be Sehwag, he is as likely to get out for nothing in India as he is in England or South Africa. I think you'll see be surprised at how successful his 'method' is.

Dhoni comes in lower down the order, and while he doesn't have great technique, he does play straight, so something which should be a great asset in England.

That leaves possibly only youngster Kohli with a question mark around him....

Yea, I don't understand what he's talking about.

Pujara for Kohli, btw. Although I'd prefer to see Kohli(and I suspect Kohli will be at least in the squad).

Firstly there is a lack of technically gifted batsman in general. So the fact that we have 3 or 4 that are I'd better than most. This inability to play spin criticism went out of fashion a long time back. Since then we've beaten teams like England and new Zealand, and matched Australia and south Africa on their own patches.

Also, what quality seamers do you speak of? Both England and India have got goodish attacks that thrive when the ball moves. Neither however have much to strike fear like say would be the case with a steyne who is pure magic.

The intensity of the Indian Fielders was amazingly poor yesterday, it was like XI Munaf Patels in the stadiums sometimes.

Really disappointed with Dhoni's captaincy, usually I'm a big fan of his captaincy but yesterday he was very defensive.

Yuvraj needs to bowl earlier and bowl more. Either that or drop Pathan for a bowler.

When he comes on in the 21st over, opponents know they have 10 overs to nurdle around from overs 20 to 30 with part timers on. He's bowling very decently and his quota should be taken out of the way as fast as possible.

I'd drop Pathan, but for Raina. The intensity he brings to the fielding is great.

One could say he cost us the game...he misfielded in the second last over and gave an extra run.

Id have pathan over raina every day of the decade. pathan is a match winner while raina is not.

Pollard on fire today, if Windies are to have any chance they need a couple of those innings against the big boys.

had roach as my captain in the fantasy league.

i do rate swann a lot but was shocked to see him not finish his 10 overs yesterday he was punished.

Indian fans if you had to change anything with bowling attack what will you do?

Understandable as your heart was too close to the action. The disbelief of your own team's performance over-rode the sense of occasion. For us 'neutrals' it was great fun! :)

Watching Tendulkar bat supremely I wanted India to win, seeing Anderson pummelled was hilarious. Then Bresnan's fifer and Dhoni/Yuvraj's bottling it swayed the support slightly. Felt the total was short by 20 runs and felt England had a chance. GO ENGLAND!

Strauss's innings was brilliant, should have gone to equal Tendulkar's 200 in an ODI. Support was definitely with England by this stage. Dhoni bottling it again in field placements this time. But you just knew something would happen - and it did: the powerplay. Destroyed England single handedly. No chance for England now, oh wait Shehzad just hit a six. Amazing stuff.

Personally I find it hard to watch every ball of any 50/50 match, other than Pakistan's. But I was gripped, couldn't even watch the LFC v West Ham game. :p

A pakistani living in england can't be a neutral in a India-england game ?

*either you're a pakistani citizen in which case you want India to lose.
*or you're a british citizen in which case you want england to win.

or you're just a cricket fan.

It's not that though. Watching sachin is the pure magic but I'm frankly a little tired of watching one day matches which in the way they're played are not too dissimilar to t20s. Bowlers getting slaughtered left right and centre, batsman never scoring at less than run a ball, its a big turn off for me.

My emotions will always be invested when India play but I have strong opinions on the game that arent swayed by us winning or losing. When it looked like we were going to win I was happy for the country and team, but not the generally quality of cricket.

They should fix it so Bangladesh wins the World Cup in their own back yard :nervous:

The euphoria would elevate cricket in Bangladesh to the next level. With cricket dying in the Windies we need another nation to take over the mantle.

I'm polar opposites as a supporter with cricket and football. I just love a good game these days and not particularly bothered which nation wins. I hate watching international football.

I wish we had a bowler like Malinga in our ODI side, a guy who can- irrespective of the pitch- take wickets at any time.

What's Malinga just done? Looks like he's taken 6 wickets in about 2 overs!

Id rather west indies win if India doesn't.

That's a terrible thought.

If we don't then even I'd like to windies win. They will always have a huge place in the game with all they've given to it over decades.

It was in jest.

I do think Bangladesh has a big market ready to be tapped with investment at grass root level (ICC take note!). Even in the unlikely event of Windies winning it will be difficult to get the youth to take up cricket in that part of the world. Ranks pretty low in their priorities.

I agree whole heartedly with the poor technique part, and the fact that India are no.1 in the test rankings highlights this point.
India will need their middle & lower order to back up their top order batting but I have my doubts how they will cope in English conditions. Even Tendulkar might struggle when he's edging balls to the slips which a lesser batsman wouldn't have even got near to.
You won't be scoring 400-500 runs just between 4 batsmen in England as seems to often happen in the sub continent.
If you look at England's lower order batting; although they don't have the talent of other sides they do work on an old fashioned orthodox technique and have had much success in the last 2 years getting valuable late runs on the board at home test matches.

Don't underestimate England's bowling attack, particularly in England. You do that on your peril.
The England bowling attack has improved an amazing amount since India last toured England. Anderson, Broad, Tremlett, Onions, Finn and even Bresnan will be a handful in English conditions. They will swing it from the start and even start reverse swinging from over 20 or so with the Dukes ball. As a batsman you will struggle against banana balls bowled at 85mph or more no matter how good you are. And England has a world class backroom nowadays, you can bet your bottom dollar they will have worked out a strategy for each of India's batsman.

Agree with that Rams.

Indian batsmen also have a dislike for bouncers. You also forgot to mention Swann. Still India will be formidable opponents.

I think India will get comprehensively beaten by this England team in the summer tour.

For test cricket in England, especially in early summer, England have a near perfect bowling attack.

Conversely for a tour in England, India have possibly the least suitable bowling attack in world cricket right now. Their lack of a genuine swing bowler will cost them very dearly.

Wrong. Only time our pace bowlers succeed is when they have conditions to assist them. Nehra is a genuine swing bowler, I do not particularly rate him but he will do well in English conditions.

We just drew a series with SA in the bouncy tracks there facing someone like Steyn in best form of his career.

And Swann  Warne could not trouble us one bit, infact in recent history bar Murali and Saqlain, no spinner has troubled us for a decent period of time. Your boy might rightly be crowned the best spinner around nowdays but he is in for thrashing just like the one he got in the last ODI.

This is true though not exclusively.
It could be a very competitive test series between us in England, and I still won't favour either side in this.

Current England side will be tough to beat at home, just as any very good side is tough to beat at home. But people predicting us to be comprehensively beaten are in for a surprise. No point talking now, just wait n watch I guess.

In Egnland conditions if somehow we can get Irfan Pathan back, they way he swings the ball is just deadly. He is working and training really hard and hopefully he can get back into this squad. With Zaheer and Irfan at their best trust me, any team would struggle

English conditions are nothing like SA, they're not dry, hard and bouncy. They're slowish, greenish and moist.

They're generally flat thesedays, Rams. Although weather conditions have an effect.

They are still slow & green compared to the pitches in SA. Lets put it this way, you shouldn't bowl short of a length all the time in England. Possible exception is Old Trafford. The pitches may seam a bit but in general it's the atmospheric conditions that provide the assistance to the bowlers.
