ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

Yuvraj got the Man of the series but I thought Zaheer was our best player throughout.

In order of importance I would rate them as..

Zaheer, Yuvraj, Sachin, Gambhir, Dhoni (just for the innings in the final!), Sehwag, Kohli, Bhajji, Raina, Ashwin, Munaf, Nehra, Chawla, Yusuf, Sreesanth

Zaheer has taken 21 wickets and did nothing with the bat. Yuvraj has taken 15 wickets and scored 300-400 runs. In my opinion that is not a hard task to give Yuvi the MOTS.

Only Sultan's taking you guys seriously. This is worrying given he knows more than most that it's pretty all you guys do!

Sultan get a grip, man.

Yesssssssssssssssssssssss!!!

Sorry this is going to be happening a lot for awhile now :D

Nah! I'm also on a WUM...

I'd never call Mike a Plonk if I was serious.

I can understand the hurt the English are experiencing having invented the game.

Cricket's dead... death by homogeneity, it happened a bit ago. It'll only get worse. Why don't you believe me? And T20's the only form of the game that turn this minority sport into a more global one.

Believe you? I have no reason to. Your 'word' on this topic is not what I base my opinions off.

The sport has just seen it's greatest competition see one of it's all time best editions. This was a special tournament and a brilliant sporting event. So to say a sport is dead when that has happened is a tad stupid tbh.

I had lost a little interest of late, but the series against South Africa was brilliant. It had Steyne bowling as well as the great fast bowlers of the past and of course two excellent teams. The one dayers were fantastic with them coming from 2-1 down to win 3-2. And the World Cup has been amazing. The sport has just woken me up, shook me up and told me it is alive and kicking.

Good times :D

Yeah, it'll be like Sumo wrestling soon in its homogeneity, but played by thinner people (and Samit Patel).

Does their hurt always come out in attempted WUMs?

I almost want someone to bite now, it's working that badly.

Frankly I do not care if cricket does not turn into a global sport. It smacks of people desperate to get football, or should I say soccer, popular in US. What is alarming and sad is the decline of the game in somewhere like Windies. It will always be present in subcontinent, Oz, England, SA. But could die out in places like NZ and Windies. Need to stop that from happening.

heheh... Never won it even though they have hosted it 4 times!

That's what we do, invent all the best games and then get beaten at them by people from the other side of the world. If there was a world cup for inventing games, Britain would win hands down. World Champions.

But you should. And cricket's very much a minority sport in England too. Which is why I think more should be done to improve its appeal. As I said, cricket's the only sport where the likes of Sri Lanka can and have become world champions. That wouldn't happen in any other sport with mass appeal. And we've lost the Windies... But yeah, it needs to be globalised because as it stands it's not far off from sumo wrestling or kabaddi. You know I'm right - homogeneity, isn't a good thing.

Are you guys so desperate to win something? I can't see you guys win anything big anytime soon though.

Football - no
Cricket - hell no
Olympics - no

We won the rugby not long ago. I know rugby's shite, but still...

Yeah I don't like the direction this thread is going in.

Does it have to become about the English being this bad and that bad and then about us being crap at other things?

Lets keep it to World Cup 2011 and cricket world cups in general.

I love you all :D

We always punch above our weight in the paralympics too. We have some of the best disabled people on earth.

Andy Murray will end up winning something in tennis soon enough. You can claim that :D

I'd give you rugby. That was one heck of a final against Australia when Jonny Wilkinson won it in the last minute. I watched that final. Are you guys still strong in rugby though? I don't think so.

Snooker. But the bloody Chinese are going to be better than us soon, you can see it coming. Just like happened with Badminton and Table Tennis.

Wait did that model Poonam Pandey or whoever she is bare all? Didn't she say she was going to bare everything if India won the WC?

Not only that, but when asked where she would strip, she said she would do it in the dressing room infront of all the players, and also in the ground infront of the whole stadium.

Cricket | Dhoni not in ICC World ODI XI | ESPNSTAR.com

Four Sri Lankans -- Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Muttiah Muralitharan -- two South Africans, an Australian and a Pakistani were also also among those who made the XI announced after the conclusion of the 2011 ICC CWC.

Ironically, Kumar Sangakkara, who was outmaneuvered by Dhoni in the final, was named captain of the team.

Although the Indian wicketkeeper-captain had not done much with the bat till the final, his bold unbeaten 91 last night guided India to its second World Cup triumph.

The team was chosen by a select group of experts who were given the task of picking a balanced side for sub-continental conditions on the basis of performances in the tournament.

Statistics were used but were not the sole basis for selections.

Pakistan has only one representative in captain Shahid Afridi while South Africa's AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn also found a berth in the side.

Shane Watson was the only Australian representative while New Zealand pacer Tim Southee was named the 12th man. No England player featured in the team.

Some of the other names that were discussed included Ross Taylor and Jacob Oram of New Zealand, Jonathan Trott and Graeme Swann of England, Ireland,s Kevin O'Brien, Kemar Roach and Kieron Pollard of the West Indies, Imran Tahir of South Africa, Upal Tharanga and Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka and the Netherlands' Ryan ten Doeschate.

Team of the Tournament (in batting order):

Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan (all from India), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kumar Sangakkara (WK and captain), Mahela Jayawardena, Muttiah Muralitharan (all from Sri Lanka), AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn (both South Africa), Shane Watson (Australia), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan).

12th man:

Tim Southee (New Zealand).

Yes. There's some run-of-the-mill country, like Yemen, who'd be looking at Sri Lanka and wondering why you Brits never colonized them?

Exactly. In fact Yemen should be one of our targets. That country needs to be good at a sport....besides camel racing, cricket's their best bet.

This thread is typical. Oh look someone's achieved something we couldnt (as usual). Lets take the focus off that to some random nonsense. Very insecure.

The World Cup's over, lock the thread. Or delete it like the football World Cup.
