My old place in Gurgaon was heaven though. As a colony it was brilliant. Garden Estate, just on the edge of the MG road border between Delhi and Gurgaon. Made up for any deficiencies Gurgaon had.

A small country like Danmark have won the Euros, competed by a lot of strong football nations. So Sri Lanka being capable of winning the cricket WC is not a big thing. You could say that cricket is danger of going the same way as American sports such as baseball and American football. Indian market is big enough to sustain it now. So a full fledged Indian league can work. But I agree with you, that is not an ideal situation.

The holy grail. I've seen this moment in my head a million times, and we finally got a team together capable of going all the way. My heart will skip a beat everytime I see that moment where Dhoni hit that shot and then the celebrations. It will live within me forever a part of me. And Sachin, the man who kept dreaming and kept coming back better with every passing year, finally did it. Mumbai, world cup final, it simply doesn't get better than this.

I still remember those two games against Australia so clearly as if they were yesterday. Sachin was at the peak of his powers and was swatting the Australian bowlers like flies. I have never seen a batsman like that ever. He was simply sporting perfection. Scored a murderous hundred to put us in the finals (a match we would also have won had he not been given out wrongly), and then destroyed them in the final. As a HUGE fan of his, I was just left yet again in awe.

This was where the new India was born, many say. Ganguly turned Indian cricket around from the nicest (read timid) bunch of guys out there to warriors on the field. Today the India you see is a culmination of what began during Ganguly's leadership. And if there was one moment which told the world that India had indeed changed, it was this one. It was the sign of India moving from a one man team to a very good team. Yuvraj and Kaif seemed to almost roll of the tongue as if they were never meant to be said separately. It was fantastic what happened that day.
VB Series (2009 or 2010?)
There was a time when we went to Australia and SA, did some sight seeing, saw Sachin take on the opposition but took our annual thrashing and came back satisfied. This time though we drew against Australia in the test matches and BEAT them, yes BEAT them in the ODI's. And won a best of three finals 2-0. Sachin scored a century in the 1st final and a 91 (I think) in the second, almost in some ways doing something very similar to what he did 10 years back by winning games in finals or finals and virual semis back to back. This was a different Sachin, a more calculated Sachin, but still, 10 years on, the very best.
I'm forgetting this series where Srinath and Kumble took us home with a good partnership. It was amazing. Can't for the life of me remember what tournament this was. I think against SA in the final or something.

Well you seem to have covered the biggest ones in terms of importance to an Indian fan but I'd throw in Independence CUp in there. Also the Hero Cup. My first real memory of Sachin post the WC.
Winning Hero cup if my first memory of Indian cricket as well. Actually watching my parents get up early in 92 to watch the WC in 92 is the first memory but Hero cup was when I myself got involved, watching every ball n stuff.

Yes, but Denmark's a decent sporting nation, they've produced some of the best players to have played the game. They're a strong and athletic population - and yes, that's racist. If Sri Lanka played football as religiously they did cricket, they'd be no way near the top...in fact I suspect they'd still be the whipping boys. But at cricket due to a lack of competition, they've got a chance in achieving sporting success. Which is why I think the game should be spread to nations deprived of sporting success. The game needs to get bigger.
That does not make any sense. Sri Lanka have also produced some of the best players to play the game. Sri Lanka not being able to take up football even if they tried is of no relevance. All of England can take up any sport, they still won't be able to win the WC :P
The only reason Britain isn't the best in the world is because we invented loads of sports and have to spread our talent over all of them. Hence we have good, but not great, teams in football, rugby, cricket, athletics, hockey, golf, tennis etc.
If we put all our best sporting talent in any one sport, obviously we'd be the best. You know it makes sense.
