ICC champions trophy.

Sri Lanka think this is a test match or something...

I know the ball is moving around a little and India have bowled reasonably well but Srilanka aren't showing any sort of intent for stroke play. Pathetic Batting so far.

Just seen the scores. What are Srilanka playing at?? Is the pitch bad or something?

Dhawan is some player.

Don't see England stopping India, they've been brilliant so far.

Only way Eng are beating us if they get to bowl first on a seamer friendly surface and dislodge the top order.

England have been spared one potential concern in the Champions Trophy final with Aleem Dar relegated to the peripheral fourth umpire role.

Dar infuriated England, especially the captain Alastair Cook, by changing one of the balls in their defeat by Sri Lanka at The Oval last week, fuelling controversy over how the home team had generated reverse swing so quickly in their opening fixture against Australia.

Kumar Dharmasena and Rod Tucker will be the on-field umpires on Sunday with responsibility for monitoring the condition of the balls, with Bruce Oxenford the third umpire to make replay decisions.

Dar's role as fourth umpire will be purely supportive - one of his official roles is to make sure the batteries are working in the light meters.

A worrying weekend forecast may well make the issue of reverse swing irrelevant, however. Birmingham seems more likely to be grey and damp on Sunday morning making orthodox swing the most potent attacking weapon – and potentially raising major questions about the decision not to schedule a reserve day for the final.

India's previous appearance in the Champions Trophy final was wrecked by the weather, as they had to share the trophy with Sri Lanka after heavy rain in Colombo prevented a finish even after a reserve day.
fecking BCCI cnuts. Bullying the rest. Oh hang on....

Exactly. In this case, there will be noo stories at all. If it had been an umpire that had done something similar against India and then moed top 4th umpire, the English media would be in overdrive

Yup. But fecking BCCI cnuts.

Weather forecast is not good.

Side winning the toss will choose to field and will be massive favourites. Duckworth Lewis will come into the equation.

I think crappy's wider point is that 1) England aren't very good at setting targets 2) India are very good at chasing targets 3) If India bat first and put on a big score, England are out of the game.

Shane Warne made a great point -- whatever the conditions in ODIs, put England in because they pace themselves the same way, irrespective of conditions.

I don't understand something. Bowling cross seam is being touted as the reason for England's ability to reverse the ball. Probability dictates that we'd have equal scuffing on both sides.

It does look as though the weather will feck this.

Real shame as it could be a corker.

Who said that? It's not possible to reverse swing the ball whilst holding it cross seam

So the only way England will win is if we play well and remove some of your batsmen?

I agree.
On a flat pitch like we had against SA, no way you are beating us. Along with what zing said, my point is that England's main chance would be exposing us against their bowlers in friendly conditions. If we can avoid that, I don't see us losing in this form.

Yeap. Would be a massive shame if it is a wash out or some farcical match like Indo-Pak one. Surely for the final they should have had an off day. Idiots.

I phrased that like an idiot.

You need to scuff the ball up on one side to reverse it, right? There is a lot of reporting in the media saying that the reason England can scuff the ball so quick is because they bowl cross seam in the first 10-20 overs. This has been pointed ouy by various pundits.

I guess what they do is, by bowling cross seam, they get the ball to roughen up and maintain one side really well.

Well that makes more sense although I am still skeptical. How can Anderson swing the ball as much as he does if he's bowling it cross seam?

Purchased 8 tickets for around £500.00 - Could end up being a long wasted journey to Birmingham. Might get a 10 over game if we're lucky.

Broad bowls cross seam. Seen this in the 2 England matches I saw.

Why are the outfield covers so ancient in way they work? You'd tihnk someone would've invented a better way to cover the whole thing and have it drain from the circumference of the cover directly into some drainage system.

Could've been a cracking game. Extremely disappointing.

Why can't they play tomorrow? Shouldn't there be an alternative day to play the game since this is the final?

How retarded. They could've easily played the match on Sat and have Sun as a reserve day. To play a tournament in England and not have a reserve day for rain is just stupid.

ICC are run by amateurs.

Anything less than 20 overs is pointless really.
They won't play if they can't get in a minimum of 20 each.

Anything less than 40 overs is pointless, IMO.

The beauty of ODI is that it mixes the innings building of test cricket with the mish-mash of T20.

You can't decide the winner of a tournament for ODIs on the basis of a slog-off.

I don't understand it. I remember having a reserve day a few editions back when India met Sri Lanka in the final. What is the logic behind not having one here? It's like it just slipped their mind.

Seems like India need the rain.

This tournament has been ruined by the rain IMO. There really should be reserve days.

India probably hoping for rain now. 66/4, Dhoni needs to play a captain's knock...

... Gone for a duck
