I don't really see the Italian or spanish media or pundits talking about any English players the way they do Totti or Ibrahimovic, they don't talk about Lampard as being over-rated or Rooney or anyone english, they give them their due credit from what i can gather.
Martin O'Neill was the best closely followed by Harry Redknapp. O'Neill said something like "He is the most over-rated player i've ever seen, i just cannot understand how anyone can rate him as a player" etc, where as Redknapp after watching him score a stunning winner for sweden whilst half fit remarked "what a strike but i'd never take him at Portsmouth, he's a real lazy so and so". Not with a hint of sarcasm either, he genuinely wouldnt have wanted him at Portsmouth.... Crouch, Defoe yes please! Ibrahimovic? no way.
The difference is simple, if you haven't played in the Prem you'll find it alot harder to find praise, it's like you almost don't exist unless you reach legend status or do brilliant in a world cup or in Europe.
Look at Arshavin, no-one had heard of him before the Euros yet in 3 games he's "different class" "a top top player", which he may well be but this is without taking into account anything he had done in Russia and only based on Zenit winning the Uefa cup and Russia having a few good games at the Euros.
