I was wrong about Casemiro

I hold my hands up and admit it.

I initially thought Casemiro was a glamour signing to appease the fans after the Arnautovic and Rabiot debacle earlier in the summer transfer window, a player on a steady decline. How wrong I was!

He is literally the CEMENT in our midfield which holds it all together and has given us something we have really lacked in that department for years. Credit to Ten Hag who must have encouraged the club to jump on this opportunity when it presented itself.

You were right the first time.

Some silly overractions here but this performance today was laughable. Absolute horse shit him and Eriksen.

They are really below par, Eriksen's legs are gone and Casemiro is just too inconsistent on the ball and his mobility is a serious issue, hence why he keeps getting carded as he cant keep up with pace.
We need two midfileders this summer and one of them must be a starting midfielder, better still both

1/3 god, 1/3 drunk, 1/3 suspended.

Not sure what to make of it.

To be honest what can they do when they’re surrounded by shit both ways? How can they shield the defence when we’re just throwing them in regardless?

Time to take a break from this place, the amount of absolute twats on here is astounding.

Looked disinterested today. He's been fantastic for most of the season with mainly just the issues with ill discipline leading to matches missed as a problem. Tonight he along with the rest of the team looked spineless

I might join you. These folk have nothing good to say when things are going well but they're quick to complain when the chance arises. If I wanted to be surrounded by that type of person 24/7 I'd spend more time in the bedroom with Cina's mum.

Casemiro is a smart player. If the team is together and there are few spaces between lines he will shine most of the time.
If the team is very long and there are many spaces between the lines he will suffer a lot, has no pace and will be easily overtaken.
Also with his arrivals in the area he leaves important areas of the midfield free, the team must cover him and Eriksen I do not think he is the ideal player for that.

If Casemiro is either not playing or not on it, we play like shit. Starting to think Casemiro has had the biggest influence on our season rather than anything ETH has done.

The problem is too much is expected of him. He was a proper defensive midfielder for Real Madrid. He wasn’t expected to carry the ball and make intelligent passes at Real Madrid, the fact that he can do that is just cherry on top of the cake, Modric and Kroos took care of everything else.

How's a player of his supposed quality had such a horrible game? Not bad, absolutely horrendous. How is that normal? I've seen Matic move faster.

The less said about Eriksen, the better. It was like watching someone's grand dad trying to play fooball with their grandchildern.

It's a hard job when behind you Maguire, De Gea and Lindelof are setting the tempo.

What people need to remember other players lack of ability can set the tone, they can also life another side.

Pretty much. He's a class player and will shine once we have a functional and athletic midfield that can do bits of everything i.e what pretty much every other teams has.

Eriksen and Bruno are not the answer against teams that can run and well coached unfortunately.

I hate this excuse. Good players do their thing regardless of others. He didn't do his job at all.

The Ole fanboy brigade are on here slamming Casemiro now and claiming he’s a terrible player.

They’re plaguing the Eth thread asking for him to be sacked.

At least they’re consistent in spewing shite.

I swear Souness has made 5 or 6 accounts on the caf and is just wumming us.

Different story if he had modric, kroos, courtois...

He’s made a difference to us massively but we still have a gaping hole in midfield that he has never filled and that’s a brilliant technical passing player.

And in front of him tonight was Sancho and Martial not arsed, offering nothing. Behind him and ahead of him were severely lacking.

Casemiro had a bad game but the midfield wasn't the issue.

The first goal had a direct impact on the style of game. It was directly created by defenders fecking up. Then Sevilla sat back and countered, we didn't have Bruno or Rashford to create.

When Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno all play, we generally have pretty good results. Midfield isn't the issue like it was this time last year, we've strengthened that to one of our stronger positions. Now we have the issue of what's behind them. Both ends - goalkeeper and striker - have cost us when it mattered.

It’s not a great midfield though. You’ve got two number 10s and a defensive midfielder. We need a really technically excellent player. Our passing is poor every single game.

Eriksen is a budget version of De Jong. I think he's very good but yeah he's just not as good when pressed in tight spaces. Still though it's far better than McTominay and Fred days and good enough to compete. Other areas of the team are more lacking. If we could get De Jong it would complete it, but striker is the priority first now, also looking at goalkeeper and maybe a full-back.

I disagree. And I didn't think Sevilla played on the counter till about the 65th or 70th minute. Our problem is that our players are poor under pressure, including every one of our midfielders. The midfield takes a huge proportion of the blame tonight. They got no control over the game, which is their job, and they were like a sieve defensively. The commentators mentioned it time and again in the first half as they played around or 3 midfielders or absolutely ambushed them on the ball. That is not a midfield that will win meaningful silverware, I can guarantee it. Casemiro could be part of one, but certainly not the main part like he is.

Savage. De Jong is nothing special.

Casemiro and Eriksen are both 31 going into next season. We are going to struggle to make top 4 again unless we bring in 2 real quality CMs.
