I was wrong about Casemiro

Seems like Casemiro needs 4/5 games to get to full match speed after time out. A bit like Carrick. He was out for four games.
Spot on

Fergie said similar about Rooney, that he had to play him constantly or he’d take a few matches to get going again

Casemiro has been playing 40-50 games per season for Madrid and has been a bit rusty each time he comes back from a suspension or injury. So I definitely think he’s one of those players who needs to be constantly playing

He is better at dictating play and hes a more intelligent player,
Which play does he dictate, :D this is the reason why we fall behind we keep players who have no business being at United.

Liverpool OT - we had 30% possession.

Arsenal OT - we had 39% possession.

City OT - we had 30% possession.

Arsenal away - we had 43% possession. Last 25 minutes of that game was absolute car crash.

City Away - 38% possession first half when the damage was being done. 2nd half we had 56% as City had scored 4 goals already...

All those games against better teams in League Eriksen played, where did he dictate a game?

Should I add all the away results? Of where he went hiding..

As someone said in another thread, Eriksen is a Mata, good to the eye, gets bypassed by games, good human being, importantly not good enough for where the clubs wants to go.

There are many reasons why we have conceded more goals, we play a more attacking style of football now, with Mourinho and Ole we played more defensive. We have had lots of important injuries, we used to play with 2 defensive minded midfielders in front of our defense.

We are still conceding goals, as before. Nothing to do with us playing attacking football.

It's how we set-up.

As you have rightly said, with Mourinho and Ole we setup defensively but still leaked goals, now with 'attacking football' we are still leaking goals what's the common denominator in all this...

Our structure and set-up. Remove Bruno+Rashford we have no attacking pattern..

We don't even press anymore.
We don't control games.
We don't win away from home.
We still get overrun in games frequently.
When the last time we dominated a team, probably Spurs at home.
We conceded over 40 goals a season.

All I'm saying is, Ten Hag is continuing with the same set-up which he found here and which has failed miserably.

Up until he changes the team set-up and structure don't expect big things.

We will buy all the players in the world but with wrong set-up things will fall badly.

If we go next season with 4231 expect carnage at the end of it.

Even Arteta had Saka as a wingback, playing back 3. When he changed the set-up things flourished.

The Hag has to do it, if not he won't survive another year. Because such results will be coming.

So out of all those defeats Eriksen was in the club in the last 3, others happened while Pogba was in midfield or he hasnt played in some.

So yes, I get what the problem was.

It shows we have changed players in midfield and defence but we still get hammered from time to time.

We even have Casemiro a 5 time champions league winner in our midfield but still get dominated. Not McFred who we used to curse.

We have Varane multiple winner, yet hammerings are here with us. Not Maguire Lindelof who we want both to be sold.

In my main point is, since January 2020 when we signed Bruno our midfield in big games against better teams crumbles in absolute epic fashion.. when we get pressed in midfield we crumble.

Eriksen, Casemiro, Pogba, Matic, Fred, McSauce have all played a part in the sequence of events.

They all have their positives and equal limitations but in modern day game you cannot play with midfield of 2.

An overhaul of our midfield set-up is the most pressing thing.

We did the same before,

and we did a pretty good performance in terms of control vs city

Probably the best in years as I am struggling to find a game with Pogba that we even got 40% in the last few years.

We have not dictated games vs top teams in quite a few years now, we have to go back to the SAF years.

Pogba was known for going missing in games, and not just against good teams, Villarreal is a good example.

In terms of improvement there is no quick fix, and its immature to think there is. This will take multiple seasons and more player changes. We do not have a good squad, we have a lot of decent players and not many good ones. You mention a few of our good players who won a lot, well they were surrounded by world class players.

This just isn't true.
Especially not having an attacking pattern.
We won 3 games in a row before this. Why is it, every time we lose, some posters go back to - oh its the same as with Ole stuff.
We should just go to 3-5-2 and all will be good?
That's silly.

:D :D sorry but we have scored 46 goals this season in the league.

City have scored 32 goals more than us.. Remove Hallands goals they still have same goals like us. That's without any other replacement.

Arsenal have scored 28 goals more than us, with their main striker injured for 5 months.

Newcastle have scored more goals than us.
Liverpool have scored 10 more goals than us.
Spurs have scored 11 more goals than us.
Brenford has scored more goals than us.

We've only scored 5 more goals than Leicester at number 19 on the log.

But you know what, we are doing very okay attacking wise.

People will bury their heads in the sand but nothing fundamentally has changed on the football pitch, alot of our positive change has been outside the pitch which is 100% commendable and vital.

I'm 100% Ten Hag fan but a realist. The summer clear out is the most important thing.

Even instead of going to far, see below metrics.

  • We have never breached the top 4 metric of average possession.

Is it a coincidence we have never been in any title race ever since?

Is it a coincidence we are not a consistent top 4 team any more?

It's clear as day, for you to achieve the required points to win the league you need over 63% average possession, we have never breached the 57% mark.

  • Score around 80 goals.. we have only breached the top four of goals scored once, when we scored 73 goals 2021. All other season we have been out of top 4 metric of goals scored.

Thats because we have no proper CF and depend on Rashford for goals mostly. Nothing to do with - ETH keeping the same set up as before...

We need a striker... Somebody who is killer in front of goal.. When was the last time we had a 20 goal striker ..We have Wout on top.. Who hasn't scored a goal since he arrived ..We need that one CF to click with the team, then everything will come in place

Yes you are strawmanning hard, I never said any differently but we have had this problem for many years. We simply do not have the players to do any better.

Casemiro has not been sharp for the past month or so. His play took a hit with all the red cards and suspensions. I hope he ups his game because we need him.

Looked slow and quite timid going into challenges the last couple of games.

I think psychologically those red cards have hit him hard. That and rustiness...

Couple? 3 games ago he went in so hard he got a 4 game ban!

No chance. There's about 3 at city that are better alone.

And who would that be? De Bruyne dictating the game? Please. Rodri is a very good DM but his advantage is that City's off-the-ball movement is great which makes passing options easier. De Jong is very clearly better than City's midfield when it comes to possession and dictating
