I just bought a playstation 3

I agree about Little Big Planet.

I think this is an indication of where games are heading in the future. The couple of comments regarding originality are fair, but with games like Little Big Planet, you are putting the creativity in the hands of the gamers themselves.

Being able to design a level, and then upload it so others can play your level is a great step forward and might signal the move away from repetitive franchises.

Having said that, if something sells well, then you can bet that they are going to milk that particular cow until the udders ache.

Anybody know how to install Linux onto a PS3, and what are the benefits of it?

I don't know, as I've never done it, but you would basically have a usable computer in your living room, and you could use it for streaming the football matches and posting on the Caf! ;) You would obviously need to buy a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse though if you wanted really use it like a computer.

It might be comforting for you to know that that type of application they used to do the benchmarking was something the Cell that is good at. Stick Windows Vista on that Xeon setup and it would probably fly. The Cell would fall on its arse. It's all swings and roundabouts.

Sorry to hear about your XBox.......... he he he!

Nah I don't really care. It was just for the sake of debate...:D

PS Now I've seen what you did there:p:lol::boring:

Yes, sorry about that.

The Cell is exceptionally good for certain applications - the ones it was designed for. Primarily, Sony wanted it for games, Toshiba for doing stuff with digital media, and IBM for serious number crunching and parallel processing. So they got together and made it for doing those things. I'm quite sure that Intel couldn't give a toss about it, although I'm also sure that they will try to nick some of its ideas.

I think I'll put Ubuntu on my PS3.

I was going to run with Fedora Core 6 but thought against it. Yellow Dog Linux was a close third.

http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=534967 Read this. It says something great about the Cell (positive of course). Just read the first post. Amazing. The Cell seems so special. No sarcasm... Btw my 360 broke and I have no warranty... Damn you Weaste... *cries*

Do you mean your warranty expired? Because I thought MS were increasing all warranties to 3 years.

I would suggest getting in touch with them. The fact that they have extended warranties to 3 years shows that they acknowledge there is a known problem. I'd be surprised if they didn't sort something out.

No harm in trying!

I have opened it after my warranty expired which was before they announced the 3 years thingy. Anw I'll try that x-clamp replacement and/or by a PS3:p

Curiosity...

Anw, forget it, I will fix it. Can you tell me the top 5 games I can play on PS3 this fall if I buy it in October?

Just found out about playstation home, what do you lot think about it?

Yeah it sounds like it has potential. Especially with the idea that developers can create their own spaces for games. These spaces can potentially store anything, and I'm pretty excited to see what the developers come up with.

Also looking forward to the addition of the "achievements" part of Home too. That's the thing I like most about the 360.

It has a hell of a lot of potential.

I hope they don't screw this up, I can't wait!

Home looks boring to me, I'm not coming home from work to play a sims like game, walking around pointlessly with my avatar on me head in a virtual home...

Give me the new pro evo, and the new MGS (looks fecking ace) and I'm a happy bunny. Oh and also GT5 Prologue and GTA

oh and littlebigplanet

I think you and I have very similar taste in games

Nice.

Would like to see more in car camera angles. GT has always looked better from different camera angles. Remember playing it first time on the PS. . . the replays were jaw dropping.

Right, WeasteNerd, give me some reasons for a skint student/ fellow nerd to fork out £400 on a ps3.

I'm tempted, and it's your fecking fault.

feck off.

Wait. Not yet. Wait for the shockaxis, a good offer(with games and accessories) and for some good games of course.

I'm thinking that.

I mean if I get it now there's no games I really want. Unreal Tournament might be a game that could convince me, although Halo 3, along with Gears, will mean there's no chance of me getting shot of the nerdbox.

I'm fecked off, I'm on my 2nd 360 and my 2nd copy of gears and it's started scratching the disk slightly like it did on my 1st copy. I hardly go on long sessions on it so the overheating argument is rubbish, I maybe go on it an hour, possibly 2 every other day.

If they knocked £100 off the price I'd snap one up instantly.

Always buy the system with the games you most want to play. There's very little to differentiate between the PS3 and Xbox360, but I will say you should forget about all the technical bollocks being spouted. The much touted shit about the cell will, in reality, not push the actual system past the 360 in terms of graphics and gameplay. Much like the over-vaunted 'emotion-engine' of the PS2. It's a nice piece of kit, but not the second-coming fanboys want to believe.

If you want a pure all-round system, get a PS3 with a HDtv, if you want the better game support (for the long-term future), get an X-box 360. If you fancy something different then get a Wii (and for anyone writing that particular machine off, it will be coming into it's own and make more sense, very soon).

If all else fails, for the price of either a 360 or PS3 + a HDtv to play them properly, get a motherfecking PC that does everything.

It's no longer a case of what games are out on the xbox its a case of my 2nd one is scratching my best £40 game...again.

Can't be fecked with it, shouldn't have to worry about it fecking up everytime i play it.
