How would you feel if Rooney smashed it at Everton?

Did you give 2 1/2 weeks pay to charity? Silly. Great from Wayne, coming from not quite his Bigset fan!

It came from his foundation, £1.2 million of which came from his testimonial with BT running MyDonate allowing fans to text in their donations. Aside from his tax deductibles I’d bet good money that very little is from his actual wages.

Seriously though, £750,000 went to a great cause in his name so fair fecks.

Getting paralytic while captain on national team duty? Shagging a middle aged prostitute while his wife was pregnant with his first child? Shagging a cheap tart while his wife was pregnant with his second? Drink driving with some cheap tart he’s pulled while his wife’s pregnant with his fourth?

Let’s be super generous and give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that the only time he’s acted this much of a cnut is the times he’s been caught shall we? Plenty enough to make him an absolute scum bag.

.....and you're as pure as driven snow I assume?

That's tasty.

He must be the most overrated premierleague player by his set of fans ever, I can't understand how anyone who watched him over past few years could rate him anything more than an average premierleague player. Altough, by the looks of it, he isn't even that anymore when he can't even get in Everton's first XI.

Damn good player at his best, but many were still blinded by that old love for him years later.

I personally find that a very odd perspective at this stage. He's on 10 league goals by Christmas, alongside £90m Lukaku and ahead of £60m Morata. He's done that as a supporting forward in a team that's really struggled to create chances - his 10 goals came from 24 shots, compared to e.g. Kane's 15 goals in 75 shots. He's scored arguably the goal of the season. And he's scored against City, Liverpool and Arsenal - the first two securing impressive draws, and the other a beautiful strike.

If you were arguing against people claiming he's world class, I'd understand the sentiment. That isn't the case though. No-one thinks he's world class. No one thinks he's one of the best players in the league. On the other hand, lots of people had suggested Everton wouldn't even want him. Lots more thought Everton made a mistake signing him.

The reality is that he's one of just two players to reach double figures in the league for Everton in the last 5 years, and he's done it by Christmas. He's currently on track for 20 league goals, which is a feat Lukaku only managed once - and as soon as he did he was sold for an astronomical fee. It's actually a feat Rooney only managed twice previously in his career. Across his entire career he's averaged 12 league goals a season, and it's pretty likely he'll go above that this year. If he gets over 15 league goals he'll be one of just two Everton players to do that in the last two decades.

To describe any of that as average seems a bit out of sync with reality, IMO.

Fantastic post, witch hunt by usual suspects continues long after he has left the club.

It's baffling how they thought he's a championship standard player, the difference to Everton side is night and day without him. Double figures by Xmas for a pretty average Everton side is no joke, he's well on course to knock 20+ in all competitions which would be an excellent return for any club.

That was on 26th of november, 6 goals and 2 assists ago from Rooney when he wasn't even starter for Everton from what I can remember. Not that he has changed anyone's opinion that much from back then, mind you.

But hey, welcome back.

Dixon has been blowing smoke up his arse all game. He’s the best player in the world at standing in space apparently and that’s a good thing

Nailed on to score mind you.

These commentators should be all fired, so biased in their reporting towards Rooney and other English players, Rooey was getting praised non stop, saying he was controlling the midfield, any player can can ping the ball left and right under no pressure.

The way he lost possession to Herrera to start our 1st goal is a reminiscent of his time with us the last few years: slow, indecisive and not a bloody midfielder.

His instinctives as a striker aren't gone, but Everton didn't do any real damage to take advantage of that today.

Still kind of glad his time with Everton didn't turn out to be a disaster because he was my favorite player at one time, and he also took points off some of our rivals.

It was quite telling that evertons best moments were in the period following rooneys replacement with mccarthy.

Was terrible today. Looked exactly as he was here. Always trying the Hollywood passes and losing possession every time.

I don't know when he got these good numbers this season.

Funny everyone was expected him to score today that I was pretty sure he's not going.

He's played like that all season. Had spells in games but generally he's been a bit average and at times very careless. His numbers have been much better than his actual performances.

I am a big Wayne Rooney fan. Loved his time at United and it was the right time for him to leave.

The guy scored 253 goals for us and was part of our most successful period of all time.

I never got hung up on the whole "he wanted to leave" stuff.

I looked at it he was 23/24 years of age at the time and made a mistake and maybe got some bad advice (I remember what I was like at that age, hell I am 31 and still do dumb stuff)

I will never hate someone for making a mistake and then saying they were wrong, and to be fair a lot of us and people outside of the club were saying the same thing. We sold Ronnie for £80 mil and got Owen on free, Valencia for about £16 mil and Oberton so I did understand where he was coming from.

He wasn't great today and we were 100% right to let him go in the summer as well. Have to say he has 11 goals in all comps this season so fair plays to the lad.

A hat trick and three penalties, I think.

Looks like most in here have finally watched Rooney over a full game rather than just a combination of what @GifLord has fed them and Squawka.

Same thing they have been doing for years. Over praising every good thing and then going curiously quiet when he does anything wrong.

I thought he played ok. Did his quarter-back thing, switching play from left to right, that we've seen a million times before. A bit surprised we didn't press him more in the first 30 mins. We rather let him control the early stages of the match.

I didn't notice him much once we gained control of the match.

My fondness for him has returned since he left.
Wish him well.
