Television How I Met Your Mother

Community is my favourite at the moment.

I watched a good few episodes of that but it got quite boring very quickly.

I also cannot stand the Korean guy's character. Basically the producers just decided to give all the cheap laughs to him.

What UP?

Great show, Slap bet (and that slap countdown) is one of the best (and funniest) stuff I've seen in comedy shows...:D

The only thing which is wrong about it is it's title...it really should be called "Barney", everything revolves around him...

Never found it funny once Stella came into the picture in season 3. Seemed to become more story oriented than being humorous.
Just want to know who the mother is so the show can end.
It's a shame because the 1st 2 seasons were brilliant stuff.

I came to this thread specifically to ask what others thought about it now (having been reminded by wr8's post in the TV shows that have gone on too long thread) and found the last two posts sort of answered the question.

I wouldn't say it's turned completely crap or even that it's gone on too long but I don't like the way they're trying to reinvent the show.

Barney's being less awesome and more insecure as the show goes on; Robin's never been funny but she's sort of turning into a whore which is weird; Ted's becoming a pathetic, pathetic creature; Lily's always annoyed me to be honest (mainly because I hate the actress) and Marshall is pretty much the only character that hasn't changed too much. Marshall was also one of the blandest characters to begin with.

It's turned from a real bro-show, where we could all be men and laugh about guy stuff, into a slightly edgy but relatively normal sitcom. Lily and Marshall settling down to have a family, Ted trying to piece his life together in evermore desperate ways, Robin turning into a not-awesome version of Barney and Barney also morphing into a not-awesome version of Barney.

The sad thing is that the show's still got so much potential and it could be turned around so easily. The main story arc right now seems to be about the characters maturing, which goes against the HIMYM everyone started liking.

wr8, I agree to some extent about Stella. Sarah Chalke's a crap actress as far as I'm concerned (she overplays the disbelieving sad emotion while shaking her head) and the whole Stella thing just seemed to send the show into some emo spiral.

Sitcoms have really really gone downhill..

This show has once more become too involved in the relationships aspect and slapstick comedy...

as for Community, I watch that show only for Abed, and no other reason

That was an incredibly shit episode, IMO

Ted has got to be one of the most annoying leads of a comedy series of all-time.

I just hope the series gives us
Robin and Barney: The Sequel soon. It's been headed that way for quite a bit.

Okayish Episode IMO, The Microsoft ads were also a little bit pathetic. Ted's getting more annoying day by day. Although that Barney/Robin thing in the end was nice.

I reckon they have to get back together soon because Ted's narration said that he might the mother at the wedding where he was a best man. His only friends are Marshall and Barney. Marshall's already married so that leaves Barney. It makes sense he'd marry Robin, but then again you neverknow.

One of the better episodes in a really long time IMO

Just wanted to pop in to say, I hate Robin.

I ignored this show for years, but constant berating from some friends, and their DVD collections means I've watched to the end of season 5.

One again, I'd like to repeat, I hate Robin, even Lily is more likable.

What is wrong with Robin? You like Lily more? She is the most annoying of the lot.

Robin and Ted are more annoying than funny. Lily at times too.

Some other sitcoms from CBS like Rules of Engagement and Two&half men are actually better than HIMYM.

I m not saying this show is the funniest out there. Like people have pointed out before, Barney is the one running the show and the funniest parts are because of him.

It's really weird, Lily is a ginger, she has a funny voice, the character is weird...but despite all that, I prefer her to Robin.

Every season I kept hoping she'd leave the show. As others have said...Barney is what makes that show, don't mind Marshall either, he's an idiot, but a lovable idiot.

Lily just whines for every little thing. Do you just like her more than Robin because she has bigger boobs? I m just kidding.

Yup their far far better. HIMYM was brilliant for the 1st two seasons. After that was steady decline. Over the last 1.5-2 seasons the declines has been more alarming.

Once in a while you'll get a brilliant episode but it's still no where near it's former level.

She could have the biggest tits in the world and it wouldn't mean I found her attractive, I still remember her from her earlier 'acting' days. So it's not that.

As I said it's not rational, I'm probably in the very very insignificant minority who think this, but there you have it.

Two and a Half Men is absolute dogshit. Rules of Engagement was fun at the start, mainly cause I was like "Heeeey that's Joe from Family Guy", but it got dull.

HIMYM Series 2, 3 and 4 were pure comic gold and very intelligent, then S5 and 6 were very poor because as is usual in American sitcoms, they ran out of ideas and started milking it for all it was worth. S7 has been a bit back on track but it's still nothing on the earlier seasons.

Barney and Marshall are very funny though, they save the show.

It's season 6 now, not 7.

It's pretty much just a collection of average filler episodes to space out the remaining main plot ones these days. The occasional good filler one here and there, but nothing really compared to the first few seasons. Barney is being bled to death and it's getting hard to find even him funny any more.

Haven't seen this weeks yet though, hopefully it's decent.

You are not missing much. Its not that funny anymore.

It's way way better than the rubbish that HIMYM has become.

Two and a Half men is predictable but it's fun stuff. As the ratings year after year prove.

It really has been poor the last couple of seasons.

Don't they know it's supposed to be a comedy?
The "stand by me" rendition a couple of episodes back was among the funniest shit I've seen in a long time, from any of the comedy shows I'm watching.

But yeah, the general standard's been dropping, but which show doesn't dip as time goes by? I mean, even The Wire was less brilliant in the seasons following season 1, and I'm saying less brilliant so that nobody would think that I'm implying that it was bad in any way, but season 1 for me was still the best, and that goes for every show.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S - if you check Wikipedia, it did not fall out of the top 10 even once in its entire span. It was 8th its first season and never fell out of the top 5 for the rest of the way.

I just watched that clip. One (okay) joke spread over two and a half minutes.

But yeah, most shows get worse as they go on but this and the Office have just dropped like stones, IMHO. It has gotten to the point where I'm just watching to complete the series and for lack of anything better to watch.

I haven't watched Friends from season one through ten, but couldn't that be attributed to the cult following it got due to being the only show of its kind at the time? If that isn't the case, you may consider the point as taken.

Did you see the entire episode? Because seeing the clip as such may be very funny, but the context is kind of important for it too, with the earlier clips of Barney trying to impress and spend time with the guy who blatantly is his brother's father and not his, culminating in this.

Their just stretching it as much as possible and it's more "story" oriented than humor anymore. Should just tell us who the mother is and end the show after this season.

Even Mike and Molly is funnier than HIMYM.

Oh and yes HIMYM is a couple, sorry many leagues below The Big Bang Theory
