Horse racing tips

Great card at Newbury tomorrow featuring the likes of Long Run. I'm going and am stoked at seeing Sprinter Sacre jump a fence in person. He's not worth backing at odds-on but Empire Levant is worth a bet each way in the 1.15
He's a well handicapped hope who Paul Nicholls actually tipped up as one of his better bets for the Festival in his Twitter feed a few weeks back. Should place at least in a hot contest.

Spine tingling. I've not had a good season after a brilliant 2010-11 but this fella winning the Arkle will put me back in profit. Can't see him losing.

IMO Kauto Star won't run, was listening to Clive Smith on the radio and he sounded very downbeat. They surely won't risk him unless he's 100% fit and with it so close to Cheltenham I just can't see him making it

Very much doubt they'll risk him. Massive loss to the Festival and the Gold Cup itself.

Luckily the next great horse, Sprinter Sacre, is out on the Tuesday and is still only six.

Looking forward to seeing Spinter Sacre alright, Geraghty seems very confident indeed, he's progressed hugely and will IMO certainly get up the hill this year with Peddler's Cross chasing him home.

Placed by usual antepost banker bet for the festival today as soon as I heard about the Kauto Star fall. Went with an accumulator of Quevega, Big Bucks, Hurricane Fly and Long Run. Quite confident as I see the first three as pretty much nailed on and if Kauto doesn't run everything will be in Long Run's favour adn the 13/8 is a great price. If Grand Crus does go the Gold Cup route he must be respected but is still a novice so can't see him beating the defending champion.

On another note Peddlers Cross now shorter on the machine for the Jewson than for the Arkle, from watching McCains interview yesterday I suspect all is not right and I wouldn't be surprised if he missed the festival altogether.

That would be a shame. The build up over the last few weeks has seen a lot of fancied horses going down. My ante-post book is a bit of a mess at the moment:(

Flat starts soon :smirk:. I took a bit of a caning last year, it's borderline whether I know enough about what I'm betting on these days (rule 1).

Wouldn't have a clue about the Guineas at this stage. I'll be opposing the favourite though.

Better news about Kauto today. He performed well in a gallop.

Guardian going with a story about Redknapp and his dislike of the Festival because it's too busy and chavvy. Drink is always gonna play a factor in any British event but Cheltenham is nowhere near as bad as Haydock or Aintree in my experience. Speaking of which:

So what antepost bets do people have on and how confident are they?

On another note I really like the look of Divers in the Festival Plate, I got on at 16/1 and it's available around the 8/1 mark now. Ferdy Murphy is very confident in a good run and has been tipping him up during various preview nights and with McCoy on board it has a great chance.

MONDAY VERDICT ON KAUTO GOLD BID

A decision on Kauto Star's participation in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup will be made on Monday, said his owner Clive Smith.

The racing world has been waiting with bated breath all week as the daily updates have arrived from trainer Paul Nicholls regarding the legendary chaser's progress following a schooling fall.

Noises emanating from Nicholls' Ditcheat base have been far more positive inside the last 48 hours and Smith believes the 12-year-old is "nearly there".

The dual Gold Cup and five-time King George winner will gallop alongside stablemate Mon Parrain after racing at Wincanton on Friday, when lucky racegoers will get the chance to see for themselves how he is progressing.

"I'll be going to Wincanton to see him," said Smith.

"He's coming along nicely now and is almost back to normal. We're nearly there, I think.

"The decision on whether he runs or not will be made on Monday, not Friday.

"Paul has said the he will school him on the grass gallops at home, as he has done every year before Cheltenham, and after he's done that the decision will be announced."

Leading Irish jockey Davy Russell believes Midnight Chase is the value bet in the big race.

Russell has named Neil Mulholland's course specialist as the best each-way shot of the entire Festival - even though he does not ride the 10-year-old in the blue riband.

That privilege goes to Dougie Costello, who has partnered Midnight Chase to victory in all of his five wins at Cheltenham, including in the Argento Chase on his latest start in January.

"My long shot for Cheltenham is Midnight Chase in the Gold Cup," Russell told The Irish Field.

"He's a five-time winner round the course and ran well in the Gold Cup last year (fifth to Long Run).

"He was back to form with success over the course on his last run, so is a big each-way price."

Camelot and Born to Sea are the only Guineas horses I've even heard of. Some serious studying needs to be done after the Grand National.

Just over three days to the Festival and it's been a stressful time. I've never known a renewal with so much fecking about re targets. We still don't know if Grands Crus is running in the Gold Cup, I have serious prices about Medermit for the Ryanair and he might go for the blue ribband as well. And Boston Bob, a serious novice hurdler handled by Willie Mullins, will either run on Wednesday or Friday.

Graham Lee being injured is a big loss as this horse takes plenty of knowing, he's a bit of a monkey. He's still probably well handicapped but I don't think McCoy's riding style will suit him at all. I hope I'm wrong though and he flies up the hill for you :)

Pretty sure Boston Bob will go for the Albert Barlett, Sir Des Champs on the other hand

I have double figure prices about Mount Benbulben for the Albert Bartlett so am not best pleased about Boston Bob turning up there.

4:40 @ Haydock : Bradley.

Currently 7/2 had 2 people call me this afternoon to say its going to win, I'm in!

Shit missed it. When's the one in England?

It's not just a one race meeting though. Some good contests all three days and I'll be in attendance on Thursday where Medermit is worth a bet in the 3.05

Oiseau De Nuit my big fancy of the meeting runs tomorrow. Think Medermit will go v close Nearco the fav had a very hard race at the festival and I'll be looking to take him on.

I am off to Ladies Day at Aintree today and need some tips as I have nothing this year so far

Any chance of a PM or 10 from the Pro's please?

Cheers
