Gaming Hogwarts Legacy (PS5/PC/Switch/Xbox)

It's not hitting me. I'm usually good with open world RPGs, and although it was novel for about 5 hours or so, I'm just a little bored with it.

I'm mostly really enjoying it bar the above mentioned bug, however some of the quests are very grindy especially

the ancient magic ones and finding all the demiguises
The map is also so big, with so much detail I can foresee finding everything to be challenging

Do you guys feel weird wearing anything other than the normal Hogwarts uniform? I think it breaks immersion too much wearing anything else. Especially when you're in the school and everybody else is in uniform.

I might be wrong because I didn't use the feature, but isn't that the point of 'appearances'? You change the appearance of gear without altering its specs?

Yeah, that is the point. I was just wondering if other people felt weird using anything other than the uniform in the school. In other games, NPC's tend to have more varied appearances, so the player character doesn't stand out as much. In this setting, I find using anything else too immersion breaking.

Gotcha, it's early... Some of the gear, especially face masks/glasses definitely felt out of place and immersion breaking (especially in cutscenes) but by the end I had some gear that whilst not 'uniform' per se, wasn't batshit-crazy either. And I hung onto anything collected that was in my house colours regardless of specs.

I believe anything you collect you can then change to that design on any other gear. So no need to hoard anything.

It's still decent, but I'm finding myself playing in shorter bursts largely due to the awful control schemes used, specifically the combat and flying. The design team really need to attend a few talks on the art of proper control design and why it's so important.

Also the lack of action and variation in enemy type doesn't ever allow the otherwise decent combat system to shine. (not to mention the excessive amount of spells which don't actually do much difference in a fight).

Overall I'm still enjoying it enough, but I stand by my earlier opinion that the whole game would have been better based in a bigger Hogwarts (and the surrounding grounds) then opening the world up in a sequel. There's just too much of a stark contrast between the highly developed school and the barren word outside.

Did you treat it like an open world and just pick things to do randomly? I've found that this moves better when you're keeping with the main story consistently with a couple of side missions here and there. At least early on

I'm the same and feel a right freak running round in my ugly white robe while everyone else is in their black hogwarts robes

Yes. I used the relic robe for a long while, but now I've gone with wearing one of the fancier velvet school robes, because it just looks weird to not be in uniform in the class room cinematics. The dignified robe is also a good option for a black one that doesn't look as basic as the original.

There's a fecking suit of armour you can get about in

I'd feel so stupid in that, although Hogwarts has loads of suits of armour so probably more suitable  trying to imagine rocking up to lessons in it!

I have a rather fetching Ravenclaw cape at present so feel slightly less out of place, though I'd like a nice tasteful black robe

Finished the daedalian keys last night. Quite enjoyed it and like the Slytherin reward

My son just showed me how to walk around without displaying the stupid dragon eye specs.

Is it a proper RPG with choices that kind of matter and different endings or is it linear?

The transmog system in this game is awesome. Was a really nice suprise to find such a well fleshed out gear system, a lot of games don't bother.

Ooh you can hide them? I refused to wear them even though they were my best item as I felt even more out of place than I already did in my out of place non black robe

Yeah, under each gear item you will see the option to change appearance (It's the square button on PS5). This allows you to select the gear with the highest attributes but then change it's appearance to whatever you have in the collection (or nothing if you prefer). The concept is called Transmog and can be found in some RPG games.

Yeah took me a while to work this out too.
Took me a while to also work out how to open those chests with the eye

Feck me, I didn't want to say anything because I just figured I was going to be called "condescending" as usual for pointing it out. But also I double guessed myself and then thought I missed something so I convinced myself I really didn't have a clue why you lot were banging on about the look of clothing.

Turns out, you are fecking noobs :lol::lol:

Transmog is super important. How is young Tom Riddle ever going to attract Death Eaters if he runs around commiting war crimes while dressed like this?

It's a world beater

Absolute game changer!! I'm now wearing a rather nice outfit, without avoiding items due to not wanting to look like a freak. I don't game much so no wonder I had absolutely no clue such a wonderful system existed

The suit type trousers tucked into the knee high socks which you can't seem to avoid is upsetting me though!

I've refused to wear the whimsical night cap, as just no. Now I can wear it and not make it visible, outstanding!

I wish I didn't have to wear my suit type trousers tucked into my knee high socks though.... Just no...

Probably not a spoiler but just in case

As an aside, probably because I'm female so soft, but I love the vivarium and interacting with my captured puffskeins which are so cute, they were squeaking at me earlier after their brushing. Also the way the beasts play with the toys

The Vivarium made me pause, it's such a special moment and one of my faves of the game.
I didn't use it much as I was a bit system'd out but I will spend more time next time.

Just finished it and thought it was a great game overall.

The map replicated what you see in the films so accurately, and the passive interactions you encounter randomly throughout Hogwarts (the moving paintings, the wandering ghosts) makes it feel very authentic.

I actually felt the main storyline was a bit flat; not sure it was because of the monotonous tones of the characters, or some of the missions were a bit dull, but I much preferred the exploration and side missions.

It really is gorgeous, and I keep going back to it to interact with my creatures, even just to watch them. Want to upgrade mine so I can have more beasts. Also the breeding, not that I have it yet!

It's not your fault. I think it's easily missable. Even for people that game a lot. The game doesn't tell you the transmog system exists and the icon for it is quite small.

What mode have you been playing it on - performance or fidelity?
Performance. 60fps or bust!

The patch we got a couple days ago seems to have done quite a bit for the performance on PS5. There were a lot more fps issues running around Hogwarts than there are now.

Also, in case people have missed it, to make the combat more fun there's little combos you can use on each enemy to make them suffer. The book tells you the main ones.
Alright, calm down Voldemort.

I'm just funning mate ;)

True story, I missed it at first too. It's only when I was doing some PS5/PC comparisons that I noticed it on my big TV. There's some bits and pieces in this game that aren't really explained all that well!

I know mate its all good.
Not spotting the way to open the chest with the eye annoyed me. Running around like a mad man looking for small amounts of money and selling clothing was a great use of my time.
