Gaming Hogwarts Legacy (PS5/PC/Switch/Xbox)

I know mate its all good.
Not spotting the way to open the chest with the eye annoyed me. Running around like a mad man looking for small amounts of money and selling clothing was a great use of my time.

The chests I immediately guessed would be some kind of potion (or isn't there a cape or something in the films?). Would I did do for the first dozen or so was run miles away, hide, then very slowly sneak up on them like a Splinter Cell. Wasted ages doing that, when you can pretty much just stand next to them and activate it

Which book?
It's in the collections menu. One of the categories is enemies. Once you encounter a specific enemy, it'll appear in the list. It tells you at least one way you can exploit their weaknesses.

I just completed the PS exclusive mission. That was...unexpected. It's my favourite mission in the game so far!

How many Merlin trials do you need to expand your ability to hold gear? Feels like I’m always destroying stuff as can’t be arsed to keep going to a vendor mid quest.

Also, how do you add attributes to gear? I’m level 16 and about a dozen hours in but don’t know if I should be focused on one area and grind through that first…

You need to complete 52 Merlin trials to expand to the max of 40 inventory slots. That part of the game is a huge slog. They repeat the same few trials and have that annoying unskippable cutscene every time you finish one. The game didn't need all of them.

You need to get far enough into the story to add attributes to gear. The game will show you how to do it when you get there.

I'm still loving this. Helps that I'm not rushing through it.

Was complete shite with combat but getting some combos going now.

Are you kidding me? 52?! Bollocks to that I don't need the space.

So, bottomline. I like cRPG's and I loathe Harry Potter. Should I get this?

edit: wait this isn't a cRPG, it looks more like an Elderscrolls knock off. Is it a good knock off?

It increases incrementally. When you complete one, it'll pop up like, '1 of 8 Trials Complete', and when you've done the eighth you'll get a few extra slots. I think I ended up with 28 slots and it was better.
Yeah, I didn't explain this very well. You're right. 52 is just to max out your inventory. Still, I think having max space is nice. The less time spent having to go back to Hogsmeade, the better, but the time spent doing trials to get that is quite a bit.

You also need to do all of the Trials (95!?!?) if you're going for plat/all achievements. You basically need to 100% everything to get plat.

I've been able to put quite a lot of hours into this the past week due to illness and I must say it's good fun. I've almost completed the main story and I must say I did find the difficulty (I put it on normal) to be good at first but it got too easy too quickly. Haven't yet checked if you can change that on the fly mind you so could be a non issue but just something I noticed.

Thing is about inventory space, although it is annoying (and poor design) to be so strictly limited with no place to store higher level gear, is that loot and money quickly become moot anyway as you simply get way too much off both and 99.9% of the stuff you find is worthless or will be within 5 minutes (before you even get to the next fight normally).

So gear fear isn't something you should be worrying about and forcing yourself to do all those tedious trials over and over (they are mildly interesting the first time you do them of course) isn't really necessary.

The main selling point for me is how interlinked it is with the series. If you loathe Harry Potter then won't enjoy it anywhere near as much.

As an open world game it is still enjoyable. Not as sophisticated in gameplay as others but good fun nonetheless

I'll wait until it's a bit cheaper then. I also don't particularly like open world games...

I also just got Octopath Traveler 2 :wenger:

Picked this up thanks to a discount on CD Keys, and I'm mostly glad I did - so far the game is pretty fun and immersive, and the setting is spectacular, I spent the first couple of hours just wandering around Hogwarts being impressed.

The downside is that there's clearly some performance issues on PC at the moment, so I have to play in small doses to avoid a big drop after a while.

It's more like a Witcher knock off. It's ok to decent though, but I don't think you'd like it at full price. Heavy discount down the line and hopefully expanded gameplay with a DLC or two.

I love how there's something for everyone

Some people may find it boring but

just got the breeding pen and done my first round of breedings - Puffskeins, Unicorn and Thestrals, looking forward to seeing the babies tomorrow!

Having finished the main quest line have to say it's a bit shit overall, two of the relationship quest arcs are better.

Sebastian's arc is a lot better than the main story. Great character.

I finished the story and all of the side quests now. I'm cleaning up to complete the plat. Seeing inside of Hogwarts is amazing. I love it in there. I also enjoy the combat. You can pull off a lot of great combos. I don't think the open world portion of the game is that great. It's got quite a bit of that open world bloat to extend play time for no real reason. I think the enemy variety is lacking as well.

I'm sure we'll get a sequel that improves on some of the lesser aspects of the game. Still a really good starting point for a studio that hasn't developed a game on this scale before.

I'm about halfway through the main quest and also finding it quite grindy and rinse and repeat

I'm enjoying the side missions more

Unfortunately I've also encountered

the Biscuit bug. Because I opened the cage earlier when free roaming, there's now no lock available, so unable to get him and complete the mission

Just had a go of this properly. Enjoyable so far but I’m level 10 and I’ve literally done feck all aside from a handful of pointless quests in Hogwarts and now just gone to Hogsmead. Is this normal?

I can see why people say

the main mission becomes very rinse and repeat and the Sebastian quests are much more interesting. Same about the enemies, there's generally goblins, poachers, or spiders. In the trials it's the pensive protectors followed by the guardian. They've done so much so well it would have been nice to mix the enemies up a bit in the main quest. I'm trying to do the collectables as I go along, so they're less of a chore at the end.

As I'm female probably - I love the vivariums and the way the creatures interact with you. The baby puffskeins are delightful

Also as a big Harry Potter fan I'm enjoying the little references that come up to events in the books

I've got about nine hours playtime under my belt and generally I'm very impressed. I'd say the major weak point is the dialogue; it feels very wooden.

I unlocked lmperio and added Imperio mastery in skill points, I just imperio folk and then hide for a bit and then go back and hit someone else all the baddies just kill each other and I don't have to be mithered with any of it.

Went back in after leaving it for 3 weeks and its more enjoyable. 24 hours in. They honestly could have done with more boss battles. I mean the game is ripe for boss battles with legendary dark wizards. I can remember a sidequest in the witcher 3 where you fight another witcher. That was a highligt for me. The lack of enemy varity quickly gets stale and the main story is so average. Writing good stories for video games is hard but i felt they could have done better even if JKR had to write it. I just couldnt care less about the whole thing.

On the plot I'm getting a lot of Biff, Chip and Kipper vibes (like it was written specifically for kids), I'd enjoy it more if it was a bit more mature but I guess I'm not the target audience.

Im 35 so feel the same way. Especially with saving cute fantasy animals. I just want to go full sith and slaughter the younglings at Hogwarts in secret.

Does that broom shop owner piss anyone else off? I hate his voice and I want to crucio him

Peeves can fecking do one too. Annoying prick

I'm only level 16 or so but am going all in for the curses

I never watched or read Harry Potter but I am desperate for a good open world game. Is this worth it?

Personally I would say no, I thoroughly enjoyed it but it was definitely propped up by me being a Harry Potter fan, the actual open world activities aren’t amazing and even the main story is average.

For me it’s good not great and if I wasn’t a HP fan I think I’d wait until the price has dropped given its a single player game

I Echo this (apart from the HP fan bit, not that I dislike HP but I've never read the books and only watched the films for the sake of the Mrs).

It's a bit frustrating as you can see where it could go from here, but this game isn't really making the most of either the setting (apart from Hogwarts of course, which I maintain should have been the whole game plus the odd detour to Hogsmeade) nor the gameplay elements. It's decent enough, and a solid base, but overall lacks real depth to any aspect.

Having said that @devilish it does depend on what you look for in an OW game. If it's running around doing missions as a time killer and something casual to drop in and out of, then this works for that.

cheers.

I got bored of this game pretty quickly; I just can't be bothered to play it. Haven't touched it in three weeks now and didn't make much progress through the campaign.

I'm not much of a fan of Harry Potter, but Hogwarts was quite fun to see in the game. The problem is that the quests are pretty dull and everything feels like side quests.

It isn't a bad game, and works well, but I just don't find it fun.

I kind of agree with this. I've not quite finished it but overall have been pleased with the game. Being a big Harry potter fan helped, if I wasn't would have gotten tired pretty quickly. I think the combat is pretty ace actually and they can build on that more, add some more enemy variety and challenge definitely. The main plot and side quests are all pretty vanilla and dull. They could have done a lot more with that. I just skip most of the dialogue. They could have done some really cool stuff with the unforgivable curses or given you options that really affected characters and the story but none of that happened.
