Gaming Hogwarts Legacy (PS5/PC/Switch/Xbox)

I took the inclusion of a trans woman as the game creators trying to soften JK's image, rather than a middle finger to her. But I guess I was wrong as I'm the only one who saw it that way.

Loving the game, but I really want a broom. Running to the high street and back is getting a bit excessive.

Just done my first flight class, do I get a broom soon?
Yes. Soon.

Shifting through spells on the ps5 is such a headache. Imagine its better on pc.

I'm absolutely loving it! Done about 4/5 hours and feel there is so much more to explore. 1st time in a few days I will be playing and buzzing!

It aint much better we are still limited to 4 slots on keys 1-2-3-4 with 4 loadouts we can just switch those individual spells quicker with the mouse than the analog stick. They should have just given PC more overall slots though i mean we have a keyboard there is no reason to be limited to the buttons on a controller.

Speaking of PC why hasn't the game ready driver come out yet? Don't tell me Nvidia is boycotting it too ffs.

Have you unlocked all 4 spell banks?

Probably obvious, but you can reassign spells mid battle with no penalty (which also pauses the fight) and it makes things a lot less frantic, especially if you need a particular colour that you didn't have assigned - i.e., you don't really need to use spell banks.

I played through it mainly on the new Edge controller and used the back paddles to switch between two sets, but obviously most people aren't fecking idiots and don't have the controller.

Isn't the Nvidia driver out? I updated my Nvidia PC but didn't look to see if it had included HL but on Hardware Unboxed they mentioned that the AMD driver specifically wasn't due until like now or something implying that NV's was.

The latest was feb 8th, nothing for HL no.

This new Game Ready Driver provides the best day-0 gaming experience for the latest new games supporting NVIDIA DLSS technology including Hello Neighbor 2 and PERISH. Additionally, this Game Ready Driver supports Company of Heroes 3 and the latest update for World of Warcraft which introduces support for NVIDIA Reflex.

Never known them to be this slow before, imagine giving priority support to WOW and a game that isn't even out over this, i mean what.

Edit: So upon further research the driver does have some sort of a profile for HL at the software level its just not full support yet.

Really enjoying it.
Being a 36 year old adult telling my younger sister the spells and charms I've learnt whilst my dad looks at me with disappointment also is great.

The way paintings, statues etc animate gives me such perfect "Hogwarts" vibes. They've nailed the nostalgia factor (and made a very fun game) in a way that I really was not expecting.

That was my impression as well.

I keep finding little bits from the films and books (e.g artifacts etc). Was a big fan of them so enjoying it

I'm taking my time exploring rather than just blasting through the main quest so am probably learning spells etc slower than most

I want a puffskein and to see what other beasts I can obtain but don't seem to be at that point yet

Can't decide wether to buy this game or not

I don't have crazy amount of time to play and am not often in the mood for it or I'm in the mood but don't have capacity due to work and so on

That said I take some time every now and then and play for few hours, I can't be bothered playing for just an hour at a time cause I also need time to remember controls and what is going on and most open world games just have so much info and stuff it sometimes becomes overwhelming when you don't have time all day everyday to play it. At the same time I've also never been able to not explore as much as possible and do everything the game offers haha

Anyway some of my favorite games are Witcher, God of War and Last of Us, GTA, Red Dead Redemption (gave up on second one, way too much)

Currently playing Assassin's Creed Vikings and Fifa mostly as it's easier with Fifa to play for 30-40 minutes at a time.

Sorry for off topic rantings, is the general consensus that this game is worth it and should I get you reckon? (P.s grew up reading HP and remember playing the early ps games)

Jeezus Crist man, delete those trash games and get yourself playing Hogwarts Legacy. As a fan of the books especially you're in for such a treat. And honestly considering you're playing and presumably have a decent time with Assassin's Creed you're going to absolutely lovvvvve Hogwarts legacy.

Edit: and so you know, I deleted FIFA myself last week so I can dedicate all my attention to Hogwarts. Only able to put in a half hour or hour here and there but it's so much fun even still.

I like the game a lot, but the broomstick controls are really bad. I can't understand why they made it the way it is. It could do with some performance patches as well. There are a fair amount of frame drops when running around the castle.

Haha yes they're not really good, new Fifa is shit, I also have Rocket league and Witcher remastered but yeah guess I'm gonna buy Hogwarts when I get paid next month

I don't want to check online so that I don't get spoilered.

I plan to buy this when it goes on sale, what's the story about? Is it Harry Potter and the gang or is it a completely new character? What's a TL:DR version of the game without spoiling anything?

It's set 100 or so years before HP, with a completely new cast - there's some crossover in names of characters, and the lore remains tight to the source material for the most part.

It’s set in the late 1800’s, Phineas Nigellus Black is the headmaster and as far as I know the only it’s only him and Peeves the poltergeist who are from the books.

The game looks beautiful. Lots of back and forth so far, I think I'll have to dodge my open-world obsession of not using fast travel. Will endure a bit more as I presume we'll unlock mounts at some point.

I know nothing about Harry Potter, I imagine fans of the series will love many things which for me are just out-of-context magic lore.

How's the story in the game? Be getting it in April.

So far pretty average. 18 hours in. It's generally not its big selling point. Tbh i wish JKR had been involved in fleshing out the main story. I mean more than George R.R Martin did with Elden Ring.

Yeah, I have struggled with this as well. It did not help the camera axis were not inverted to begin with, but very hard to control even after changing it. Wish they had just used the left analogue for the descend/ascend as well.

When can I catch beasts?

I've

just gone into the forbidden forest for the first time with Richard Jackdaw. They had puffskeins etc but I wasn't able to catch them?

It's a while from there I think. You need to get the Room of Requirement, and then a while after you'll get an 'Attend beasts class' questline. After that you can start to catch them

Ok thanks I haven't done all the classes yet I've been too busy exploring so probably why I'm further behind

What house is everyone in? I'm Ravenclaw

Slytherin, also named my guy Gellert Grindelwald as he would defo been a Slytherin had he went to hogwarts.

They get a bit better with the upgrades but it does feel floaty. Heh
My issue is the lack of free aim on the right stick. I've never experienced flight controls like this. As far as I can remember. You've got left and right movement on the left stick, and up and down movements on the right. It's really weird.

I'm going to assume the upgrades won't change this.

I agree. It's probably not something that will get patched, but if/when they develop a sequel, I hope they change the controls.

I genuinely didn't notice this at all, I beat all three story races first time but thought turning could've been tighter hence my floaty quip. On the occasions I used it to unlock Floo points I didn't really ahve a problem either, apart from the no-fly-zones, which feel arbitrary.

So far this is pretty great, way better than I'd anticipated.

Kinda awful frame rate issues on PC though.

I agree. It's probably not something that will get patched, but if/when they develop a sequel, I hope they change the controls.

As I posted somewhere in here, they have definitely screwed the camera matrix but also the controls are consistent with how Disney Infinity worked. Even on PC there's no freelook (there's not even proper free aim). Both are fixable, but as usual I don't see any reviews/much chatter on twitter talking about it, so probably won't be.

For those on PC with issues, since they've been lazy and not done any proper fullscreen, my advice is make sure you play in single monitor mode and turn off any Gsync/Amd equivalent and set Vsync in game to off and FPS to unlimited. Also the last Nvidia update IS NOT a Hogwarts one, Warner should be getting more shit for that false tweet.

Something really frustrating just happened to me. My gear was full (but I didn't realise). I opened one of those big ass chests that usually have some great stuff in and it told me my inventory was full... I made space but the chest wouldn't open...

Reloaded the area and it's now open. So I guess I lost my loot. Bastard. That is poor design.

OMG STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE!

(Yep that is incredibly annoying. Though I did go back to one a few hours later and it had refreshed. You won't have lost much though, the loot you find is generally shite compared to the gold gear you get in Hogwarts).
