Gaming Hogwarts Legacy (PS5/PC/Switch/Xbox)

Got as far as my first class in my first day's play. This is pretty ace it's the vibe that makes it so far which is impressive as I'm hardly into any story yet.

Anyone else randomly fired curses at the cat just cos it was there?

You, of all people... shame on you.

(I'm randomly firing curses at everything)

Can't decide wether to buy this game or not

I don't have crazy amount of time to play and am not often in the mood for it or I'm in the mood but don't have capacity due to work and so on

That said I take some time every now and then and play for few hours, I can't be bothered playing for just an hour at a time cause I also need time to remember controls and what is going on and most open world games just have so much info and stuff it sometimes becomes overwhelming when you don't have time all day everyday to play it. At the same time I've also never been able to not explore as much as possible and do everything the game offers haha

Anyway some of my favorite games are Witcher, God of War and Last of Us, GTA, Red Dead Redemption (gave up on second one, way too much)

Currently playing Assassin's Creed Vikings and Fifa mostly as it's easier with Fifa to play for 30-40 minutes at a time.

Sorry for off topic rantings, is the general consensus that this game is worth it and should I get you reckon? (P.s grew up reading HP and remember playing the early ps games)

I just finished it...go back and give it another go. It gets worth it I promise - only rockstar game I've ever completed.

Ok thanks I haven't done all the classes yet I've been too busy exploring so probably why I'm further behind

What house is everyone in? I'm Ravenclaw
I did the wizarding world quiz online and got Slytherin. So thought, let me playthrough with Slytherin.

Haven't platnium'd this yet or even finish the story but I definitely would say this could be a nominee for GotY. I don't think it will win it but I would place it ahead of a game like HFW which I did platinum, not at the level of a GoW or Elden Ring of course though.

Something really frustrating just happened to me. My gear was full (but I didn't realise). I opened one of those big ass chests that usually have some great stuff in and it told me my inventory was full... I made space but the chest wouldn't open...

Reloaded the area and it's now open. So I guess I lost my loot. Bastard. That is poor design.

Same happens in boss battles, be careful.

The gear slots are infuriating, keep getting sent on quests with multiple chests only to be told I'm full.

I know from someone on here the Merlin trials give some extra slots but it's still so limited! I get some limitations so you don't just breeze through, but not this much

It's poor design. Such an easy thing to navigate around i.e. just have a chest in your dorm where all your crap is dumped or leave the loot on the floor so it can be grabbed later. Also maybe don't have a limit? It's just annoying to have one and it seems like it was put in just so they could make more annoying "challenges" to complete.

Yeah I don't have many negatives for the game but this is definitely lazy design/deliberately frustrating and on my list. I think I expanded my inventory once or twice, and had 28 slots at end game. There is a chest in the dorm, but I never found out what it was for.

I don't know how far you are, but there's other stuff that's artificially limited in the same way.

It doesn't warn you before you craft something that you're already at maximum carrying capacity, only letting you know once its crafted and you can't pick it up. not a biggy, but mildly annoying. Also it limits creature types in the vivarium, so once I hit the first cap I didn't bother with it further.

On the gear issue alluded to, are you able to destroy/sell gear and it's just a case of remembering to do that (as annoying as that is) ?

Yeah but destroying seems like a waste and if you're on a quest it's annoying to take a detour just to sell some crap. And obviously if you get stung by what happened to me (losing gear) it's the worst.

Yeah, completely fair. Are you able to save at anytime? Might be a case of just quicksaving constantly.

I try to sell my surplus gear in hogsmead often.

There's storyline quests later on that gave me a full inventory's worth of gear and more as drops during a single battle, and you can't just pop back to Hogsmeade in situations like that. In the end I started destroying all gear that would sell for 90 and 60. It's just annoying, and at a bare minimum we should get the option to pick up/swap/discard rather than having to manually compare everything via the menus.

I can imagine. Wont be looking forward to that.

So is there not a place to ever store anything? Seems rather odd. And I agree with all the above, the gear system is heavily flawed in more ways than one.

Somehow I still am enjoying it though, mostly due to Hogwarts though and decent enough combat (which has flaws also, but the idea is there).

The chest in the dorm is part of a collectible side quest that you get from a girl in a courtyard at Hogwarts

I wish it was like Horizon, don't you get a "stash" for surplus stuff so if you pick up stuff when you're full it just goes in the stash?

The unknown object that you have to take to the room of requirement that clog up your already minimal gear slots is going to grow old very quickly

I know this is highly unlikely for a number of reasons but wouldn't it be good if you could choose a different voice for your character. I just can't help but think my character is a member of the junior conservative party.

They just copied Destiny with that. It's the exact same as needing to go to the Cryptarch to unlock certain engrams. As is the entire UI in the menu. It's literally the same as Destiny. It obviously works, but it's so obvious they just copied it

I was thinking that as well. Would be nice to have more options, but having multiple different voice actors do all of those lines is going to be expensive.

A small QOL update I would like is for the game to remember your transmog option when you switch to a better piece of gear. You find upgrades relatively often and you keep having to switch back to the look you like.

You could change the tone / pitch of the characters voice at the start. But I agree, I seem to have settled on a mini Conservative too.

I've got about 20 side missions now, seems very overwhelming

Do they stay there, or do they disappear (Like in RDR2) if you progress too much?

Want to just focus on the main story for now.

I can't be certain, but there came a point in my playthrough where no new Main Quest lines opened and I was 'forced' to do some of the pointless side quest stuff for an hour or two. Dunno if it's by design, a bug or one of the sides actually being key to progression despite its labelling.

Thanks for the reply - I will ignore them for now and see if I get to the same point where it makes me do them. I'll probably do a second playthrough anyway with Slytherin, so i'll do them then if I lose any

I found a Kneazel which had been caught by poachers quite early on before I knew alohamora so was unable to unlock the cage. I now know said spell so wanted to go back and assist but can't find it now.

Cages bug - open world and mission

I've been exploring the open world trying to tick things off in-between missions so it's not a chore at the end. I've rescued a couple of puffskeins in the forbidden forest, but they didn't leave the cages. Went back, the cages are now shut with them still in but no way to alohamora it, nor do spells work, so they remain stuck. On seeing if there were any solutions to this, it Sounds like there's a cage involved with a mission that if you open it earlier on (I have unknowingly) you can't complete the mission as no way to alohamora it, so can't get 100%. Given I've opened said cage in the open world exploring, I now have to hope for a fix before I reach that mission as I've played for about 20 hours so far so don't want to restart
