Higuain to leave Real Madrid

I'm slightly amused at the quite significant number of Arsenal fans residing on the caf. I mean, don't you have your own forums to go to and talk more about your team? Arsenal-mania? Or some Gooner blog?

Well, someone needs to state the obvious stuff to Wenger. Isn't that the reason why you lot have been in such a poor state for while now?

It's amazing how people will use the words of a propaganda machine of a newspaper when it suits them...it hardly makes it gospel because Marca said so.

I do find it quite strange that you are amused by rival fans posting on this forum. I think you'll find they mainly post in the Football Forum which thanks to many rival fans is almost as busy as the main Man Utd forum. And finally I think you'll find some of them do post on other forums.

We should probably try to get rid of Marching as well.

They add more to the discussion than most United fans here. Plus, what difference does it make to you?

What's good about the Caf is that the paranoia and insularity that is present in many other fora and is bred by their own 'fans-only' policies, is largely diminished here.

Indeed. I personally spend more time here (and I'm not even a rival) than in the Porto forum. I use Porto's more as an information source - and a good one at that - and feel I have very little to add to a discussion there. Here I can always present a different perspective and play devil's advocate here and there.

Different sets of fans here make for a more interesting place without totally losing it's character like those generic football fans of no club in particular.

I see SATA's having his annual whinge...

It doesn't suit me, I couldn't care less if he goes or not! The point is that despite seemingly endless speculation that talks have been ongoing and a bit accepted, even from some "reputable" sources - the guardian for one, there is still a good chance Arsenal haven't even bid. Just shows how ridiculous sports journalism has become re transfers.

So he hasn't moved to Arsenal yet? Good.

With Cavani, Falcao and Lewandowski seemingly out of reach for Chelsea and City, Arsenal need to get this deal done before they turn their sugary gaze towards Higuain.

Nah, Mourinho managed him and didn't fancy him, no way we'd be in.

Good signing for Arse though.

Didn't he play quite a lot for Mourinho at Madrid?

If not him then who do you see being brought in or do you see another Torres season with Lukaku getting some chances?

Rooney to replace Torres would be my ideal choice but that is pretty unlikely.

I can't see Jose putting up with Torres and I think Lukaku just the sort of player Mourinho likes but there's no way we go into the season without a few more transfers.

Is Schurrle a possibility upfront? Who knows, seems more of a Robben than a Drogba from what little I've seen.

Although I want Torres gone (nothing personal, he's just been cack) if Jose gets 30 + goals from him I'd be delighted. I don't think he will though. He's special but not that special.

Who cares so long as he lines up on August 17 v Villa?

Because it would clearly be better to get our business done early so it not only looks like we may actually mean business for once (look at how the Spuds go about it, they are doing it the right way). And then there's the fact that all the new players will have more time to adjust and train with the squad.

If we have another deadline day scramble then I will have finally had it. Someone at the club needs to fecking pull their finger(s) out of their arse and get these deals sorted ASAP.

Did you want Cavani, duffer?

I dont watch Serie A so only really saw him at last years olympics and the confed cup just gone. I was not really impressed.

Lot's of people whose opinions I respect (and who have seen him play more than I) do rate him and his goals record is undeniable so I'm sure he'd be a step up on Torres but another 50 million striker? Not for me.

Chelsea have been cursed with big money striker signing for a long time (Drog aside). I remember being delighted at getting g Robert Fleck and Chris Sutton.

I think Rooney would excel in your system, at least last seasons system if Mourinho continues to use it, as Rooney is best as #9 these days IMO. Schurrle seems to play more from the wide areas when I've seen him.

So most likely keep Torres, blood Lukaku and buy a striker none of us have thought of so far?

He's not an option up front imo. Schurrle is a fast player who runs in from the left and shoots from the edge of the box. He'll repeat that trick on a loop a lot. He did have a good season setting up teammates by his own standards though

Jose might be special, but Torres is special too. Just a different kind of special...

I tend to agree but generally Spurs are even worse than us for getting deals done quickly.

It's as if no-one at Arsenal has a clue about the relationship they're supposed to have with the fans. We clearly have money to spend, and there was a real sense of optimism at the end of last season that we've got the nucleus of a good squad but just need reinforcement in key areas, and now the club are doing everything to destroy this confidence by signing absolutely nobody quickly.

We need to move fast and competently. We don't, at this moment, look as if we're going to make a signing in the next fortnight.

I'll feel more comfortable when Chelsea get a bloody striker. Still not overly confident in us holding on to Jackson Martínez, and losing him on top of Moutinho and James would be too much for just one transfer window. I think Atletico is too broke to come for him. Any other cash-filled clubs in need of a striker this summer?

If I were Chelsea manager I'd play Lukaku and forget silly bollox signings.

If I were Chelsea manager I'd put Torres in goal, Cech in central midfield and Hazard at centre-back. Terry could be ballboy.

But maybe I'm spiteful.

Perez just said that no official offer has been received for Higuain. Mental.

Mourinho never actually said that.

Indeed.

He did say Higuain would go to train in pyjamas if he could, but because he's the least vain player of the squad, not because of being lazy.

Realistically this is about a good a striker as Arsenal can buy. A little over 20m is a fair price. He's a good player that will convert their chances into goals. That's what Arsenal need as a striker. It's a bonus if he takes a big part in the build up like RvP did but it's not a necessity for them.
