Its counter intuitive to not put players in your plans on the bench, unless of course they aren't fully fit which Mkhitaryan wasn't.

Mourinho said himself he'd rather Mikhitaryan completed full training rather than match-day training and 15 mins on the pitch. I reckon he probably was ready for the City game, but Mourinho didn't want to throw him in again for such a big game.

He'll be invovled for the Burnley game for sure.

Hope you're right, it'd be a crying shame to bin such an obviously talented player without giving him a chance.

If it's true that he's mentally fragile then put a sodding arm round his shoulder! Isn't Mourinho supposed to be a good man-manager?

It's obvious you've never watched a single game of him. I think People following the Bundesliga would have a laugh at this, no offense. Can you imagine Lingard being the top player in Germany?

And no, it has nothing to do with him training poorly, there are other reasons and we may soon know.
Ha. I was being sarcastic. The previous guy said Miki is overrated so I attempted to put into perspective as to who was keeping him in the stands.

Mourinho is a great man manager. He was always regarded as such until the Chelsea implosion.

Even at Real I recall sympathy being shown his way when certain players fell out with him, because it was a dressing room that required a bit of an undressing with power groups and annoying politics.

Obviously he had dickish moments towards oppositions but thats another story!

His second year was pretty terrible during the first 20 matches - bar Aubameyang though, everyone was terrible. But even then he had created big chances which team mates bottled. IIRC, we had a conversion rate as low as 7 or 8% that season, at times even as low as 5.x.
The remaining 14 matches were much better, he bagged some assists and goals.

I find that post misleading. Unlike Mkhitaryan the team got a lot better very soon after the winter break, I remember a match vs Stuttgart in particular, where the offense was performing really well, Mkhitaryan came on at half time (2:1 in Dortmund's favour the score, Stuttgart had to open up and offer lots of space) and played like a nervous wreck, making the wrong decision at literally every turn, ruining loads of promising counter attacks.
I still remember that because it was the point where I came to the conclusion that the team wasn't the problem in his case.
"14 matches" is also misleading, since in reality it was only the last five league matches where he showed a bit of consistency.

Don't get me wrong though, I don't want to smear his name, his last season was indeed amazing, but 14/15, for me, definitely showed how extremely deep he can fall if things aren't going his way.

That started to fade with the Madrid circus

Madrid, in my eyes at least, stands out by far as the most unmanageable club around. The big players know so clearly that their longevity is greater than the managers it must be a nightmare getting and keeping them on side. Mourinho doesn't have any of that here, the worst he has is Rooney's occasional grumble in the media. Playing the supportive boss with Mkhitaryan to get the best out of him surely isn't too much to ask

Well from the Chelsea debarcle, Hazard, Costa etc maybe he is just tired of holding peoples hands. As time goes by you lose the desire for some things

Can't remember Mou ever holding player hands. That's why I and many other BuLi followers had serious doubts on that transfer

A fair few players he had at Chelsea never wanted to be at Chelsea in the first place. Filipe Luiz, Costa, Cortious all wanted to go back to Atletico and Fabregas only landed up there because they were the only London club who'd take him. Add all of them to a stubborn Hazard and you have your work cut out whether you're Jose or Ancelotti or Conte.

Anyway, back to Mkhitaryan - I hope the press ask a quesiton about him today.

This is all rumour. They won the league and these players did good. At the end of 2015 they were happy. Things started bad when Jose attacked Eva and then they got thrown under the bus. Some of those players seem happy now, magically enough. I see no indication that Conte has his work cut out.

It is pure rumour. Costa went up to Chelsea fans and waved at them in the semi, almost like "giving the nod" so I saw no problem. He also hit the ground running so I see no issue there. Why is Hazard hard to handle? He is a family man, doesn't go out and party, lives a simple, un colourful life.

Costa - http://www.skysports.com/football/n...leave-chelsea-for-atletico-madrid-this-summer

I also remember when he first signed for Chelsea, they asked if its true in the Spanish media and he glumly said "it looks it" without even breaking a smile. Atletico got a very good fee that made sense for the club, but if they wanted to keep him he'd have been more than happy to stay.

Cortois - http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-madrid-return-exit-leave-marca-a7317621.html

To add to this, think it was balague (not a great source but still consistent with the above and other outlets, and Cortois' own words) who said that Cortious had to be talked into leaving Atletico to return to Chelsea when Mourinho was still at Real. He really had to keep ploughing on at him to persuade him to return to his parent club.

Luis (weakest source, but it was everywhere, and he did actually end up leaving so likely to have been true): http://metro.co.uk/2015/02/08/filip...t-chelsea-for-atletico-madrid-return-5054392/

so thats 3 players, plus Fabregas who we all know only landed up at Chelsea because they were the only big club takers. He was pretty over the hill (and still is) and also Hazard, who is difficult to handle because he doesn't enjoy putting in the effort defensively. He's also hard to handle because he kept being open to the idea about leaving Chelsea and would flirt with the media as such.

(This is all I'll say on the matter, baring in mind this is a mkhitaryan thread, apologies).

Each time they interview Miki, he seems content. He stated many times that he knows wont play in ever game, and the way he talks sounds like he is resided to the fact that he will probably feature in less than most realise. It's like Jose only see's minimal tactical setups in which Miki would be effective...should this really be the case? Its almost entering NFL territory where you have specialist players who only ever feature for one aspect of the game (like a punter). But i have tried to figure out WHICH setup would Jose see fit to play him? I dont believe the poor half against City (which wasn't really his fault, we were all terrible), but either way, he has played Jese since then so I am just baffled as to when Miki would be used and where?

Is he holding out the 10 role but Mata is playing so well so he cant get in? Is he looking RW/RM but Rashy/Jese played there ect?

I feel kinda sorry for the bloke, he does seem like a top chap.

I think Mourinho liked Mikhi and he was saving him up for the City game to unleash him as the big surprise for Pep. Sadly, Mikhi produced one of the worst displays I've ever by a United player and Mourinho's secret plan failed. Mikhi then broke down and cried, and Mourinho holds a grudge ever since. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Come on now, he was not that bad. He wasnt even the worst player on the day. Stop with this drama of calling him that over and over again.

I think it's a disciplinary matter or lack of manager's trust following his injury while on international duty.

Most likely hiding an injury and costing his team one of the most important match on the calender.

Are you pissed?

You cant honestly think Miki was the sole reason we lost that day?! If so you are deluded and obviously a WUM...
In my previous post i said he was not even the worst player and not solely responsible for the same.

“Not injury. Sometimes I confuse the meaning fit in the English language, sometimes fit means that you aren’t injured. Mkhitaryan is not injured, he is training with the team 100%.

“Some players have the profile of adapting easily but some other players need more time to feel the intensity. Some players need time to feel the competitiveness and the level of work without the ball. Mkhi needs time to become the top player we know he can be.”

“Of course we believe in Miki and sooner or later there will be no problem.”

Good to know that he believes in him. Hopefully that'll stop the nonsense about how Mourinho never wanted him.

MOURINHO: WHY MKHITARYAN HAS BEEN ABSENT
Jose Mourinho has suggested Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs time to adapt to English football, but the Manchester United manager has backed his signing to become a top player for the Reds.

The Armenian has not featured since the Manchester derby on 10 September and that is partly due to him suffering an injury while representing his homeland in the recent international break.

Mourinho confirmed during Friday’s press conference at the Aon Training Complex that Mkhitaryan is no longer injured, telling reporters that he is working hard on his fitness behind the scenes.

"He is not injured," the manager said. "Sometimes I confuse the word 'fit' in the English language. Sometimes you can say that it is 'not injured', but you could also say that you are in great condition and ready to compete. That is different for me as we use different words in Portuguese for the different situations. Mkhitaryan is not injured, he is training with the team 100 per cent.

Asked if it takes some players longer to adapt to the English game, Mourinho continued: "I think so, yes. Some players find it very easy whereas others need more time. They need time to feel the intensity, the aggression, the game without the ball and the competitiveness.

"The realities are often different, particularly in terms of the competitiveness. It doesn't matter who you are against, you have to play at the highest level otherwise you will not be able to do it. Micki needs time to become the top player he knows he can be."

Mourinho expressed his confidence in Mkhitaryan when expanding on the topic that dominated Friday’s press conference, pointing to two of his former players at Chelsea and Real Madrid who required time blossom in their new surroundings. "I think Micki will work here for sure," he said.

"I don't like to speak about players from other clubs because I don't want to be misinterpreted, but I don't think he'll mind. A player who had a problem to play when he first arrived was Willian. He went through a process and then, after a few months, he became a top player. Then, when we won the championship, he was phenomenal and still is. That is just an example.

"Similarly, Di Maria had to learn a lot about his game when he came into Madrid from Portugal. Sometimes this is what happens. It happens with defenders, but it is often easier for them to adapt than attackers. Some go straight to success and others it takes more time.

"In Micki's case the process was interrupted by injury, which does not help the process of evolution. Being out for a month meant he has had to go through the process of getting match-fit, then once he has that he needs the competitive level to do it. We believe him and, sooner or later, there will be no problem."

All well and good Jose. Now actually start giving him some minutes or he is never going to adapt if all he is doing is training.

The word is not volunteered, but the suggestion is that text had Hazard admitting he felt ashamed of his own efforts. “I sent him the message to say I was sorry he had gone and … well … just that I was sorry,” says the Belgian. “We’d enjoyed all that success together last season, but this time round we hadn’t. I felt a little bit guilty because I’d been player of the year. I’d been one of the most decisive players, and this year I’d performed less well.

Great quotes from Mou, hopefully the Mhiki-hysteria in this thread and on this forum will quiet down after this presser.

You're taking Mourinho way too literally. All he said, probably being true, also covers for his lack of confidence on the player. Other players had injuries and weren't sidelined for so long.

Not too sure about those quotes to be honest.

" sooner or later there will be no problem"

Why not " soon, there will be no problem"? Don't like him having the word later in there at all.

He's right about Willian and Di Maria though.

That's just silly and works just as an excuse to keep beating the drum that something is wrong with the relationship between the two.

Mhiki is not injured and working with the team to get to the right level. The club and Mourinho belives in him, and nothing is wrong. I tend to believe the manager who've handled these situations on multiple occations to great success, rather than keep coming up with theories just so there is something to complain about on the internet.

To put it politely, that's just naive. Mourinho has been doing this for ages in his career and a lot of his premium signings of failed just like that. He won't state explicitly he's punishing a player after he got injury while on international duty, didn't perform when called up again (a month and a half ago) and then stayed outside team selection.

I see Jose has been reading the Caf and decided to run with my insightful - and some might say borderline stunning - comparison between Mkhitaryan's early days and Willian at Chelsea. Either that or we're both massive bullshitters.

To put it politely, that is just paranoid and an excuse to continue to doom monger on the internet.

How many of the of the premium signings have failed?

Jose has never been at a club where he has full control over transfers so there were players signed he never fancied

If he is indeed conditioning him specifically, when he comes into the team he should be a revelation,

I cant bloody wait.
