If that's what Mourinho feels then I can't understand why we took a near £30m punt.
He wouldn't have known until it actually happened. Mourinho even said that the last City game taught him a lot about the mentality of his squad. I think he was referring to Mkhitaryan in particular.

Mourinho isn't an arm-around-the-shoulder manager like, say, Wenger might be. I think that's a good thing, to be honest. A thick-skinned, confident player is less likely to bottle it. I reckon that's why Arsenal have been such perennial underachievers despite having so much raw talent in their squads.

Ridiculous from Mourinho, he gives him 45 minutes against City when he is not fit and then drops him for two months after one bad performance. The way LVG handled Di Maria doesn't even come close to the stupidity of this.

Bringing him off the bench to right the wrongs during his last performance seems like the perfect way of getting him back into the squad. So weird.

Lingard and Mkhitaryan were both dropped after the City debacle.

Afterwards, Mourinho talked about how he was disappointed with the mentality and resoluteness of certain players in such a high pressure match.

What's clear is that Lingard has risen to the challenge ever since. Evidently, Mkhitaryan hasn't. I presume he's been shit in training because, conversely, Lingard has managed to turn things around for himself.

It's understandable, I suppose. Mkihtaryan is supposed to be an extreme introvert. He wilted under the pressure of the derby day game. And now he appears to be wilting under the pressure of Mourinho's personality demands.

Our current manager likes arrogant players who can stand up to his abrasive man-management style. If Mkhitaryan can't do that, he's going to get thrown out of the club. You have to back your manager in a situation like this.

Lingard certainly didn't rise to the challenge on Sunday. Mkhitaryan is such a top player aswell, streets ahead of Mr Average Lingard. Can't believe this treatment he is getting.

This is getting ridiculous. Best winger in the squad can't get 5 minutes.

I'm not denying that he has problems adjusting to the pressure, but extreme introverts are not necessarily worse under pressure than extroverted people. Many very resilient people are quite introverted.

He is obviously judged to be in bad form by our manager, but we don't really have a serious method to determine why he is.

He rose to the challenge of not giving up or letting his head drop in training.

Incredibly bizarre situation, the only thing I can think of is that he doesn't fancy him tonight after his performance against city in the league.

If he's not in the squad on Saturday I think it's safe to say there is something going on behind the scenes.

If this continues then it's hard to see how he'll remain a united player.

If he got dropped for not handling the match against City it wouldn't make much sense to start him for the first time next time we play them like.

If he doesn't play at Burnley then it'll be clear there's something wrong though.

Pogba and Ibrahimovic stinking up the place on regular basis, yet they're undroppable. Fellaini the useless lump is first name on the team sheet.

This guy has one shit game vs City, playing half injured to boot and it's never heard from him again.
What the hell is going on at this club?

I think people need to calm down. He was absolutely shocking Vs city previously, so to bring him back against them in what now is an important game, would be stupid IMO.

I think he will start against Burnley at the weekend and has been told previously he will be. He was taken today just in case someone got injured.

If he is not involved against Burnley, then I'd say there is a deeper issue.

We can only guess what's happening in training. Also how can he now how Henrikh will cope with PL if he isn't giving him chances?

This. Or so I hope it is. :D

Something is up. It's not even debatable. He arrives in his tracksuit, washbag and suddenly he's not playing.
Absolutely bullshit situation. I expect Raiola to speak soon.

I still think it is just the case of mourinho not risking him in a fixture Mkhi was so bad. Thr last few fixture were a must win Mourinho had pretty much made up his mind about Mkhi's mentality. I don't think Mkhi will not get another chance. But it will be in a game where we can afford to lose. A defeat today will bring in a lot of pressure so it is good Mkhi will rather make his appearance at the weekend against a weaker opposition. Maybe another defeat will further reducr his chances to feature but I feel he will only be given his chance when we are comfortably im the lead and/or against a weak opposition after a good run of matches.

WTF is going on, like seriously

EDIT: Not even on the bench :lol::lol::lol: we're a fecking mess

If Mkhitaryan were performing better in training, he'd be in the squad ahead of Lingard. Mourinho isn't an agenda-driven Caftard. He's a pragmatist, and this is his job.

Feck mourinho.

He's done this at Chelsea numerous times he bought salah + cuadrado + Felipe luis for big money and didn't play them they ended up been sold pretty sharply after and have gone onto better things.

OK, we can forget about this signing as he won't be playing a game for us under Mourinho .

We knew he was mentally fragile when we bought him. I'm guessing his head dropped after his "performance" against Man City and that's affecting his performances on the training pitch.

If he's looking awful in training for whatever reason (low confidence etc) then it's a sensible decision not to play him.

Is it really that outrageous to think that a guy whose shown himself in the past to be capable of being utterly abysmal when he feels pressed (Dortmund in the Champions League, hell, even vs City) is struggling to cope with the move and is playing awfully in training?

Was always the risk with this move, I'd go as far as to say that Ferguson would never have touched him with a bargepole given the question marks over his mentality.
To me it is laughable because as explained yesterday, three previous managers have praised him multiple times regarding his training and work ethics - regardless of his performances in matches.
It's written on the wall that his struggles are of psychological origin, not a physical one or an attitude problem.

Doesnt look good for our Armenian, what a shambles. I can see him not being in the squad at the weekend against Burnley too, complete meltdown that will be

Last time Mhkitaryan started was in this exact fixture and he struggled. Now I know the personnel of City isnt as strong on paper but I don't see a big deal with him not playing. However, I would be very disappointed of he doesn't start against Burnley on Saturday.

I'm clinging onto the hope that he's just not ready to throw him into a tie like this after the city game.

However, if he isn't starting against Burnley at OT it's all over.

I can stomach bad results but it's things like this that run my patience thin.
You can't use players like this.

Fair enough, he isn't starting. But he is not even on the bench and he is not injured?

Mou really needs to come clear about what is going on.

He wasn't 'absolutely shocking' though. He was bad yeah but certainly not to the degree that he deserves to be frozen out ever since. Hell we had 7-8 players on Sunday that played worse.

This is a world class player we are talking about here, he shouldn't need eased in against fecking Burnley.

Not even on the fecking bench? Mou said he was fit before the Europa League game, this is silly. Also didn't he turn up in his tracksuit etc today?

He should do. Completely goes against what he said just over a week ago. Ridiculous situation really.

Same. Adds more insult to injury for me losing when we have top players like this in the stands for no reason.

I'll be concerned if he's not included at the weekend. It makes sense to leave him out tonight after last time.
