Have we signed anyone yet? | Yes, with stupid tax

So does anyone else wonder about the relevance of an impending American economic collapse? And probable global impact.

I'd love to see a Venn diagram of those here who think we don't need an overhaul and those thinking Boris Johnson is the best PM of all time...

From whom and in which years?

No one bid for him last summer. West Ham sniffed around but were probably scared off by the price and/or Jesse not being too keen on making a permanent move there.

He didn't want a permanent move in January 2021 only a loan and he obviously didn't push for one this January either and this after barely playing for United for 24 months despite being fit. So clearly Lingard wanted to run his contract down, which he now has done and left on a free, which is his right but lets not pretend he was being held against his will.
No, he had many offers to leave last summer, as initially stated by @Cassidy, and was convinced by Ole to stay after he promised him game time. One of the many reasons for dressing room unrest last year.

“United rebuffed enquiries from six teams last summer and Lingard stayed at Old Trafford after he was given assurances over more playing time by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.”

You can’t blame him Van Gaal said he will select players who are playing for their club. We can always go back in January for him
I agree with you that this one’s more on Van Gaal than anything else to be honest.

Ah the old ''was promised game time'' bullshit. Why did Solskjaer suddenly feel Lingard was an essential part of his squad after barely playing him for 18 months?

Why would Jesse even buy that after barely being able to get a game for a year and a half and then Ronaldo and Sancho were added to that same squad that he already couldn't get into?

Why didn't Lingard push for a permanent move on the 1st of January 2022?

When you look past quotes and soundbites Solskjaer didn't treat Lingard as a player he valued as an important member of the squad and wanted to keep. And Lingard didn't behave like a player who was desperate to move away for more minutes.

'Jesse is still an important part of this squad': Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Man Utd Manager Solskjaer On Inter Loanee Alexis Sanchez: “He’ll Return In The Summer & Prove You All Wrong”

That's how much stock I put into that Solskjaer quote you linked to. He was trying to bump up Lingard's sale price, it's why he was loaned out after all just like Sanchez.

Guess no DM again this window. Would be a joke

Not exactly sure on the source, but I really think targeting a new CB over a DM this summer would be a mistake.

We shouldn't underestimate just how bad our midfield is - even if FdJ does come through the door, we at least owe him a competent partner!

8 months before the end of his contract was a bit too late to do that. Actually selling him would have been better.

10 months.

Yeah selling him would have been better for the club pity Lingard seemingly didn't want to leave on a permanent deal though.

Yes the argument you will hear for the rest of your life whether you like it or not. And not only regarding Lingard last season.

Oh I've no doubt mate, some on here will defend poor Jesse's honour until the grave. ''Jesse wasn't running his contract down, he was promised game time''. Lingard then proceeds to run his contract down and leave on a free.

Absolute load of rubbish.

Did we already forget last summer? We played a blinder getting Sancho for a far more reasonable price, and also Varane on the cheap. Then of course the best transfer of the Premier League in Ronaldo.

Just because it didn't work out on the pitch, doesn't mean our backroom staff didn't do well. We were talked about as being legit challengers for the title based on the names we brought in.

Have a little fecking patience and faith.

Or would you still prefer we sign grealish/lukaku for 100m? Dick about all summer long trying to sign kane?

So much revisionist history, and the window hasn't even come close to being 1/3 done yet.

It took us two windows to get him and as a result of failing to get him in the first wi dow we ended up spunking like 50 million on two alternative right wingers that have barely played 10 games in two seasons between them.

And sancho and varane who are the typical high profile names that we tend to target have hardly looked like great business like most of the high profile players that have chased after post fergie

Van Gaal hasn’t said anything that Southgate, Enrique or any other international manager wouldn’t say. I mean, it’s common sense that anyone not playing regularly at club level would make it to a competitive international squad. Rashford, Sancho and de Gea can’t even make it although they are regular starters here.

I could care less about him or his honour, and if he was told outright that he wasn’t going to be used, he would have accepted the move. This one is on both Ole and the club for not trying to sell him or push for a sale. He’s far from the only one who was falsely promised game time last season which caused dressing room unrest.

Dithering club. The club is stuck in the past.

Newcastle wanted to loan and possibly buy but we wanted 10m for a loan because they’re rich

Is there a "Have we sold anyone yet?" thread? I'm about as excited about the possibility to see some of these sad excuses for players leaving our club...

All I've heard so far is sending some of them out on loan with some having the possibility to be sold for a certain amount. If we loan an older player to a club I'd want to see them having to buy them if some criterias are met

Yeah get De Jong and decent DM it will help take the constant pressure of our CB's

I think it's just guesswork by Fabrizio. Ducker who is more reliable for us has said on a few occasions that our priority is two midfielders and a striker. Followed by right back and center back if we can get funds from player sales

I think why it's only De Jong we are chasing at the moment is because Ten Hag sees midfield as the weakest area and he would prefer that our budget be spent on midfield than any other position. Basically after we get De Jong, we'd go for another midfielder and that would take all or almost all our budget

The guy wants to stay at his club to be sure he can go to the WC. I don't see any problem with that. We can get him in 6 months or a year.

No, he can do one.

Once you decline utd, you don't get a second chance. Its a massive red flag.

Next.

Yeah of course we have issues at CB, RB, RW & ST but still say DM is the biggest one

That's not us doing anything, just a bunch of contracts ending. Getting those on contracts out would be a miracle given how much we overpay our squad by.

Yeah although given the extensions given to players like that in the past, it’s still a positive in my eyes. Should be plenty of room to sign some quality additions now, and if Hey Arnold’s leaked claims from yesterday are true, a £200m kitty is more than enough to sign some gems. In theory at least, let’s see.

Nobody has a divine right to sign a player. Just ask Real Madrid this summer.

We got our man eventually and at a far better price. Not sure how you can complain about that.

The mental thing is you think spurs are doing better than us. Crazy.

I'd say it's more on Jesse Lingard for being happy to sit on United's bench barely playing for the best part of 2 and a half years through 5 transfer windows without pushing for a move.

When did his contract expire? I thought it was in June and the article is from November.

If that quote is from November then fair enough mate, I thought it was from August but he was at the same thing trying to retain Lingard's value. Circa November 2021 he was still barely playing him so he definitely wasn't in Solskjaer's plans.

Well apparently we wanted £25-30m for him last summer with 12 months left on his contract so from that perspective £10m isn't crazy. Especially considering there would be no option to buy as his contract would have ended shortly after the loan. The club were obviously just trying to get something from his departure.

The guy's been running his contract down for years, just like Pogba.

This is where I disagree with you and put more of the blame on the club and Ole. They should have privately told him outright last summer that he wasn’t in their plans ( which he wasn’t) and put him on the market for a reasonable price. That’s not what they did. Whether you think he was happy to sit on the bench or not, he wouldn’t have had much choice.

Yet again we overpriced and end up with diddly.

The summer cycle is well underway of us being linked with everyone, signing little to no one, and our rivals signing players wilfully, early and efficiently.
