Has political correctness actually gone mad?

Cheers. I didn´t know that the safe space thing is a physical place/room. I thought it was more of an idea. Who cares what some weirdos do in their “closet”? I also wouldn´t mix legit issues (sexual abuse/protests against discrimination) with this new stuff. I guess it is a cultural thing that is specific to the Anglo-American sphere, where university culture is a bit different and it is blown out of proportion by social media. I just never encountered anything like this at all during my time as a student and it is pretty funny/weird to watch these people acting like tits.

Ya, I think it is too but they've formalised (maybe isolated) it into a single room. Smart :p

Can someone explain what the feck is going on in the video?

Dunno, I think those people are the table were having some kind of meeting/chat, and the angry mob came along.

I think they deliberately took their meeting in one of those rooms and the other guys took the bait. Hook, Line and Sinker. Regardless, it is incredibly funny and disturbing. The clicking instead of clapping is hillarious. They accidentally out-south-parked Southpark, which is quite an achievement.
More importantly so is, that the following videos (dunno how youtube determines that) had a picture of a woman/girl called "ariel Winter". While she is a bit chubby and has a butter-face, her boobs seem to be a gift of god.

Some conservative student group were having a meeting or discussion of some kind, and the people came and surrounded them to tell them that colleges are liberal places so they should go somewhere else.

Oh, and clicking. They clicked their fingers instead of clapping because clapping is "triggering" or something.

 At least you got something positive from this.

That is so weird, I've never seen clicking before, is it because the sound of clapping is similar to slapping someone's face?

I'm not exactly sure why it's "triggering".

I am absolutely gutted that finger clicking seems to have caught on rather than jazz hands, that would be too fecking good

Good god, is that above tweet not a parody?

Jazz hands!

I'd love to have seen them in that video all start doing it.

Interesting post (on facebook, shock horror!)

A good part of what are now called "privileges" are rights. Right to a good education, right of due process, right not to be shot by police for no reason, right to decent housing. Those are not "privileges". The problem isn't that some people have those rights, it's that some don't. The word "privilege" itself has a negative connotation, indicates some sort of luxury that frankly should be taken away and everybody will be better off. This is how it was understood and dealt with historically, like the "privileges" of the aristocracy. The choice of that word, whether it was done on purpose or not, leads to hostility and guilt and has little utility in terms of bringing about change.

So on one hand people will complain about the ignorance of the right but on the other will tell them they can't go to colleges because they are only for liberals. Okay then.

I just don't get cultural appropriation. Just seems like such an utterly trivial issue to get worked up about. Not to mention that if we want to live in a properly integrated society (which is what any genuine liberal/leftie wants, right) why the hell does it seem like a good idea to insist on differing rights depending on your culture/heritage?

Agreed, though I'm genuinely curious as to the origins/reasoning for the protests nowadays. Is it just an extension of the opposition to blackface/whites-playing-Asians?

I'm not sure. I think the blackface stuff was more about mocking certain races (which is fair enough) but CA is more about 'borrowing' stuff to which you have no cultural right.

I'm guessing though. No doubt google can find a better answer.

Cultural appropriation is as old as humanity. We've copied musical instruments between cultures, culinary ingredients, types of clothing materials and even numericals and alphabetical symbols.

There's nothing wrong with it as long as you don't use it to take the piss.

Have any actual native Americans come out and said it's not cool or is it just white SJW's objecting?

I have no idea how widespread this is as an issue for native Americans. I know there are some who protest Columbus Day. Some who protest against sports time using native American stereotypes as mascots (Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, Washington Redskins, etc).

Who do I write to to complain about the crass stereotyping of Irish people in the Notre Dame mascot?

I don't understand this cultural appropriation idea at all. I listen to the proponents of it and it just gets weird.

A couple of months ago I saw an Indian person saying how a foreign person wearing a sari was seen a good thing and something that they're proud of, and a non-Indian person replied telling them how they were wrong and uneducated

Edit: Here it is - http://culturalappropriationon.tumblr.com/post/129596258928/poppypicklesticks-elaichi-cha-missmegami

Okay, okay calm down, people.

While you are all losing your mind over ‘cultural appropriation” of an Indian dress, nobody actually consulted THE INDIANS.Â

In our country, if a foreigner wears an Indian saree, we actually appreciate it. It shows that the foreigner respects us enough to try our clothes. And the saree, mind you, is not a religious thing. Hindus can wear sarees, Muslims can wear sarees, Sikh’s can wear sarees, Jain’s can wear sarees and so on.

Like Americans have short dresses, compare that with sarees. Going to a party? Saree. Going to temple? Saree, and so on.

Some Indians wear it, some don’t. Some hate it and think its oppressing, some love embracing the unique style.

Point is, don’t hate on her for wearing this. Don’t hate on anyone for wearing sarees or any variations of sarees. We love to see others embracing our culture. Why do you think we open our gates to allow everyone to practice yoga and find spiritual meaning?

Culture is not meant to be kept within four walls, it should be spread.

No. Just no. Nothing in this post is good or right. feck lady gaga for wearing this, feck the native Desis who are co-signing this, feck any desi or any POC who is okay with fecking letting whites get away with shit like this.

If you can’t hold white people accountable for their bullshit white assholery, then feck you. feck you and feck any solidarity you expect from us.

Just because some ignorant feck desi is too uneducated and lazy to educate themselves on why this is harmful and marginalizing to already oppressed communities doesn’t mean you get to go scott-free for feckshit like this.
